Chapter Twenty-Four

POV Lydia

It had been two week since Lizzy had passed. Her brother didn't quite understand why Lizzy wasn't coming back. I could tell her twin felt uneasy being without his other half. I'm glad he had Erick.

I brushed my long blonde hair for the first time since that day. I pulled on my long black maxi dress. I closed my eyes and sighed heavily. My guilt weighed down my shoulders every day. I walked downstairs meeting Colt outside as we drove to the cemetery to bury our little girl. I refused to let anyone come in the morgue house for a week. Colt finally convinced me it's time, but it will never be time to bury your child.

I'm not sure how long the service went on or what was really said. I was so numb. I sat on the ground watching until the last bit of dirt was packed down above her. I wanted to scream and cry, but I couldn't. Maybe your only allowed to cry so much and I used all my tears up.

"Lydia. Let's go home."

I didn't move even after Colt asked me to three more times. Instead he sat down next to me in silence for another hour or so.

"I failed her."

"There was nothing more you could of done. You were caught off guard and out numbered. You did the best you could. If anything I failed you. I shouldn't of left you."

"I love you Colt. You were an amazing father to Lizzy and will be again." I weakly smiled.

"What do you mean?"

" Just before we left for our trip I found out I was pregnant again. I've already been checked by the doctor after everything we just went through and the pup is fine. We have a little angel in heaven watching over their unborn sibling."

Colt started to cry again as he hugged me tight. I was having a hard time being excited about having another child after losing one, but seeing Colt's face made me feel so much better. This pup would always know they had a sister who looked out for them.

We finally went back home and got supper on the table. We just sat down to eat when Kali came running through the door. She didn't waste time making herself a plate. My parents decided to join in on our pack since our old one was destroyed.

"Hello, please come in" I laughed.

"Thanks" She mumbled with a mouth full of food.

She was so silly. She made me laugh until I was blue in the face. It had been a long time since that happened. My parents, Asher, Kyle, and Kayla followed her in.

"Well since you are all here I think it's time you all know."

Before I could continue I was cut of by Aspen, Kodi, and her twins barging in the door.

"Sorry we just wanted to check in on your." Aspen said.

I got up to hug my best friend giving her a smile.

"Now that everyone is truly here." I started again.

They all looked at me with eager faces to hear what I had to say.

"Lizzy my beautiful angel. While she only graced us with her presence so long she didn't leave without giving me a miracle. Before we went on our trip I found out I was pregnant. I thought with all the shifts and fighting I would miscarry. However, the pup is very healthy and growing rapidly."

"Oh my gosh! Lydia! I'm so happy for you. We will be sure to help you share all our stories of Lizzy." Aspen yelled

"I'm going to be a grandma again!" My mom piped up.

Colt came embracing me in his arms as our family congratulated us. As everyone chattered about the new member of our family I heard a soft whisper in my ear.

"Take care of my sister mommy."

A chill ran up my spine as my heart soared. It was Lizzy. I could feel her. Tears trickled down my cheek as I softly whispered back,

"I promise baby girl. I love you."
