Chapter 3-Moving Out

“Lyric what are you doing here?”

“Ugh, I work here. I guess I could ask you the same thing,” a sly smirk was perched upon his face.

“I get that, but you never work here this late, you always use your studio at home after-hours.”

He didn’t answer me for a few seconds, his eyes were somewhere else. And by somewhere else I mean on my body. My little fumble had accidentally loosened up the belt on my trench coat. Giving Lyric a full visual of my attire for the night.

“Well, things change.... people change...... I’m sorry.... but...... Damn De, you look......wow! I mean.......wow,” he bit his bottom lip firmly.

“Oh my gawd,” I fumbled clumsily trying to close my coat. My embarrassment was plastered all over my face. A huge grin was plastered all over his. He definitely had been enjoying the view.

“Right here in the studio huh? It sounds like one of my moves. Damn....he’s a lucky muthafucka’. He let you walk down here alone dressed like that?”

“I’m a big girl Lyric, he doesn’t have to babysit me.”

“Yea but if you were my girl....,” he walked closer to me lifting my chin up with his index finger.

“Well, I’m not,” I snapped, drawing my head back.

“No.......you’re not.”

He looked a little taken back by my words. I guess it’s still a sore spot.

“I’m sorry, I... I didn’t mean to flip on you like that. It’s just been a long ass day.”

“De, you know you don’t have to apologize to me, Babe.”

I gave him a soft smile as he gave me one back. He quickly cleared his throat as we caught ourselves diving into that awkward silence.

“Come on here girl let me walk you to your car before that smile of yours get you into trouble.”

“I apologized to you Lyric don’t make me regret it,” I said rolling my eyes at him.

He moved to the side allowing me to lead the way. We caught up a little on the walk to my car. He told me about some of his new projects he was working on and he wanted to cut back a little on being in the limelight and focus more on songwriting.

“I’m glad you’re trying new ventures Lyric. I wish somebody else knew how to cut back a little also.”

“Hmmm, sounds like you two aren’t on the same page right now. You know you can talk to me De. I can tell you’ve been upset. Your nostrils flare up a little when your pissed and you get this one wrinkle in your forehead when you have your face scrunched up.”

“I do not Lyric...”

“See they’re flaring up right now. You could land a 747 in those nostrils girl.”

He laughed as I gave him a soft punch on the shoulder. I missed this. I missed him. How we used to vibe together, with no pressure before things got.....complicated.

“Well I don’t think it’s right to talk to you about what’s going on with me and Javion, but I do appreciate the offer.”

He was giving me that questionable look like he had something burning on his mind.

“De I... I know what I told you at the airport when you left that day......but.......I would love to be your friend again. Do you.... think it’s any way we can work on that?”

Right then at that moment, I was torn. Torn to my loyalty to Javion and me genuinely wanting my best friend back in my life. Lyric caught me at a vulnerable state, so I couldn’t tell you if my decision was based on reason, my anger at Javion or was it because of something more.

“Yeah, Lyric I’d like that,” I said smiling up at him.

“Pinky promise,” he said giving me a smile back.

“Pinky promise,” I replied gripping his pinky finger with mine.

He was grinning from ear to ear. His chocolate brown eyes were as vibrant as ever.

“Give me a hug girl,” he wrapped his arms around my back through my coat.

Lyric held me so tight, it felt so warm and familiar and I had to catch myself as I started falling into his embrace. But thank God Lyric was being......well, the Lyric I knew he was capable of being.

"Mmmmm, you smell so good,” he said breathing into my neck while both of his hands slid down my back to cup my ass cheeks.

"Mmhhmm,” he grunts, squeezing my ass and nuzzling into my neck even harder.

“Lyric, if you don’t move your hands off of my ass, you’re gonna know what your nuts taste like.”

“My bad De, don’t hurt the package! I just remembered what you had on up under that coat. These damn hands of mine got a mind of their own sometimes.”

“You’re a perv Lyric,” I complained jumping into the driver seat of my car.

“No, I’m a man De....who just happens to find his best friend highly attractive. But I promise no more crossing the line, I swear.”

I’m not sure if I believe that promise but I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt for now. But I don’t wanna dwell on it. My focus now is packing my shit up and moving back to my apartment.

Javion and I need some time apart. Maybe it’ll help him realize what’s more important right now. I just hope he figures out soon because I’m not gonna wait forever.

Three days it’s been since I moved into my apartment. The boxes surrounding my living room were starting to disappear making it actually look like a home again.

I decided to take a break from unpacking making me some honey lavender tea to help reduce the stress I was feeling. My cell suddenly notifies me of a text message. And it’s not the person it should be.

Mr. Ego: Hey Babe just checking on you.

Me: Hey I’m good just taking a break from unpacking.

Mr. Ego: I don’t know why you won’t let me come over and help you?

Me: I’m good Hun. Thanks for offering but really, I’m almost finished.

Mr. Ego: Well the offer is there Babe if you change ya mind. Hit me up later thou.

Me: I will, thanks for checking on me!

Mr. Ego: Anything for a “friend.”

I rolled my eyes and chuckled at that last text. Lyric has been sweet, offering to help in my transition back into my apartment. But Lyric coming over here is not what I needed at the moment. Right now, he’s unpredictable and I’m trying to keep or newly rekindled friendship just that.

The real problem that I’ve been dealing with is it’s been 3 fucking whole days and I haven’t heard from Jay at all. Not one phone call, not even one freaking text. I guarantee you he still hasn’t really been at his place long enough to notice that all my shit is gone and so am I.

I tried not to make myself upset anymore about the situation. I went back to unpacking boxes when I heard a heavy knock on my door.

That must’ve been my reality check because swinging the door open there stood Javion.

Angry as fuck.

“So, you just move out and don’t say shit to me?!”

“First of all, don’t come over to my place with the bullshit. Second, you might be Daddy in the bedroom but you ain’t Mr. Parker! I’m a grown-ass woman and can do what I want without your fucking permission the last I checked.”

He squinted his eyes at me, “What the hell is wrong with you De? You’re talking real reckless right now! Why did you leave?”

I could see the anger brewing in his eyes, so I took a step back.

“Why the fuck do you think that I left!”

“Is it because I missed our anniversary? I apologized to you about it.”

His nostrils were flaring, and he started cracking his neck and his knuckles, signs I knew all too well. He was trying to calm himself from blowing up, but I wasn’t gonna be passive to pacify him.

“You’re always apologizing! I’m tired of hearing I’m sorry all the time when you don’t fucking mean it.”

“How can you say I don’t mean it De?”

“Because you turn around and do the same shit again and again Jay!”

“Look can I come in I don’t want to argue with you at the door.”

“No? Come on Princess don’t act like this......I love you! You love me too right?!”

“I do love you Javion, but I’m tired of being in this relationship by myself. So we need to separate for a bit, so you can see if this is what you really want. I mean it Jay, I’m not moving back in till you prove to me that I’m a priority too you and that you’re gonna change.”

“That’s bullshit De, you know you’re a priority to me!”

I let out a sarcastic laugh, “Oh really? What did we do for my birthday, shit our anniversary? How many dates have I’ve waited for you at a restaurant, a movie theater and you don’t show up and I’m sitting there looking stupid Jay? How many fucking times!?”

I felt myself starting to get teary-eyed.

“Princess,” he came closer trying to stroke my cheek. I pushed his hand away.

“You know what Jay, I’ll let you in if you just answer this. How long has it been since I’ve been gone?”

Javion looked like a deer in headlights. He really couldn’t answer me. I prayed that he could, but he couldn’t.

“Princess, don’t do me like this-”

I held my hand up to stop him from talking. I was done listening to him and the empty promises, it was time for him to show and prove.

I slammed the door in his face.

It had to be like around 1 am when I rolled over from the sound of loud music outside my front door.

I had fallen asleep on my couch, from binge eating sweets, watching movies and crying.

"Oooh... ooh...ooh... ooh...Yeah
If they gleam in the sun while they spin and they fit on my truck then, I could remember. And if it came in the sack no stems no seeds in the bag girl, I could remember.”

Really who the fuck would be playing music this loud at 1 in the morning. My complex has never had noisy neighbors before but I had been staying at Jay’s condo for 8 months so who knows.

"And if they drip from my wrist and they look like they shine like new then, I could remember. But Ohhh girl, I forgot to be your lover.”

After a few minutes, that song started to sound familiar but different. That wasn’t a radio playing that was someone singing.

“If it wasn’t for the 9 to 5, double-up overtime then, I could remember. If it wasn’t for the Sunday all-star
weekend games girl, I could remember.”

Who the hell is singing that loud this time of night? Then they started to sound vaguely familiar. Wait, is that......

“And if it wasn’t for the dough. Gettin fifty G’s a show girl ya know that, I could remember. But silly me, silly me! Ohhh, tell me how could I ever forget to be your lover.”

I opened the door to find Javion standing on my Welcome Home mat. But this time he looked nervous holding a single purple hyacinth, finishing up the lyrics to Jahiem’s Put that Woman First.

“Now I realize that you need love too Oh, yeah. Spend my life makin’ love to you. Oh, girl, oh, I forgot to be your lover.”

“What the hell Jay, it’s one in the morning, my neighbors are gonna probably call the police on your ass!”

“If they do, I’ll deal with it. This is for you,” he said handing me over the flower.

“It’s pretty but I don’t appreciate you coming here causing a scene in the middle of the night.”

“Well, I didn’t know what else to do. You said you were tired of me saying sorry. The only other good thing I can do is sing and beg. So, I took a chance.”

“Well thanks for the serenade, I’m going back to bed now,” I turned to close the door when he grabbed my hand in both of his.

"Princess please, you were right, I have been neglecting you. I’m sorr-....... I’m going to do better. Make sure your number one in my life for now on,” he said pulling me into him.

He stroked my cheeks with his thumbs as he cupped my face.

“I love you,” he whispered pressing his lips to mine. “Tell me......tell me you love me too Princess.”

I let out a deep sigh, hesitatingly fixing my lips to say those words.

“I love you too,” I said softly he kissed me again harder this time.

Our tongues found each other’s mouths as they fought for dominance. He won, as he lifted me off the ground. My legs automatically wrapped around his waist as he closed the door behind us and carried me to my bedroom.

Damn these stupid hormones of mine!

They’re weak as fuck.
