Chapter 8

I slowly blinked my eyes open. Something was clogging my throat and made it hard for me to breathe. My vision was getting clear but I felt like I was choking. I started to sit up in bed and was met with an immense amount of pain and a head rush. I couldn’t scream or make a sound. Feeling frantic I reached for my mouth when to soft hands grabbed my arms. “Tally stop. Lay down please you're going to hurt yourself more!” I recognized the voice but my mind felt fuzzy. I couldn’t think of who it was. I started to gag and thrash my arms to get them to release their hold. I needed whatever was choking me out of my throat. “HELP. We need help” I heard the voice scream. Before I knew it I felt a stronger set of hands-on my shoulders pushing me to lay down. It felt like an electrical current was running from my body to the hands' contact on my shoulders. Heat went rushing through my veins and I was out again.

When I awoke again I could breathe. The annoying sound of a monitor was going off beside my head that’s when I realized my skull felt like it was going to split open. I tried to sit up and screamed in pain. “Talia baby you need to lay down.” Blinking a few more times I looked to the voice. “Mommy” wincing as I spoke. My throat felt like a desert and my head was going to split. Not to mention the pain I felt in my side “Head ... hurts!” I said while pointing to the monitor. She gently guided me back down until my headrest on the pillow. I squeezed my eyes closed hoping to block out the lights and sound “Ok! Let me get a nurse to turn the volume down. Please don’t move baby!” I heard the door open and felt someone grab my hand. “What can I get you, sis?” Slowly peeping out I saw Xander! Relief washed over me that he was ok. I grabbed my throat and tried to link him but I was too weak. “I got you, Talia. I’ll get you some water!” As he opened the door this time I could hear my dad outside yelling.

“What the hell do you mean you let him go?”

“I didn’t let him go, Alpha Christopher. The elders did. If it was up to me he would die slowly for his crimes.”

“Then do something!”

“I cant! The deed is done. They said his Alpha came for him. I wasn’t there to oversee the process because I was here trying to make sure your daughter lived!”

My mom chimed in “Which we forever will be in your debt for Alpha Grayson!”

My dad grumbled “Yes that we will be! But that doesn’t change what that piece of shit did to my daughter!” I could tell he was getting angrier. I needed to show him I was ok. Slowly sitting up in bed ignoring the black spots that clouded my vision and the accompanying pain, I swung my legs over the side of the bed. As I put my feet on the floor my legs gave out ripping my IV and heart monitor leads off my body. A cried out in pain once more and the door swung open. A set of strong arms lifted me up and that woodsy scent surrounded me. I looked up to see Grayson looking at me as he lay me on the bed. “Get me a nurse. Where she pulled out her IV it’s bleeding pretty bad!” I opened my mouth to say sorry but he looked me in the eyes and shook his head No.

After I was bandaged and reattached to the monitors I lay there staring out the window. Everyone had left me to get some rest except for mom who just went to the Cafeteria to get something to eat. How did this happen to me? How did a simple sparring match end up putting me in the hospital? Was I that weak?

“No Talia your not that weak” Looking over there stood Xander.

Shit, I thought I closed off our link. Clearing my throat and speaking softly “I thought you were going with dad?”

“And leave my favorite sister here all alone! No way!”

“Don’t let Tabitha hear you say that!” I tried to crack a smile but it just wouldn’t come.

“Listen Talia you sparred well. You did what you were trained to do. What Thompson did to you was way over the line and uncalled for. You are one of the strongest people I know ok. Don’t ever doubt your skills or yourself!” He leaned in and kissed me on the forehead. I shook my head slightly up and down as a tear escaped down my cheek. A nurse came in to check my vitals then before I could ask what happened. His phone went off and he looked to me with a sad look in his eyes. “I have to go ok. I brought your cell phone and plugged it in already. Text me if you need me. I’m going back to school to see what I can find out on Thompson! I Love you, Talia!” I shook my head again up and down and watched my twin leave trying to hold back the tears. For the second time in my life, I felt completely alone.

Graysons Point of View

Pacing in my office I was beyond pissed. Where did the elders get off letting go of one of my prisoners? I was still the Alpha here whether I had to take advisement from them or not! They would never hear the end of it from me! My rage was building up so I turned and hit the first thing I could find. My desk efficiently cracked in half. Great now I would need a new one. Jenson knocked on the door and stepped inside. “Alpha Grayson. She is stable and asleep. I thought I would tell you.”

I nodded my head in his direction although I never turned to face him. “Thank you, Jenson!”

“Alpha I just wanted to tell you that your quick thinking saved that girl's life. If you hadn’t of gotten her here when you did that rib that punctured her lung would have caused her to bleed out. You are a good man Grayson and despite what the Elders say are more than capable to lead this pack alone. I just wanted to tell you that!”

Another slight nod of my head and he disappeared back out the door. Looking around the room I decided to go get some fresh air. Maybe a walk in the woods would help to clear my mind. As I made my way across the grounds I couldn’t help but feel a pull to Talia. My wolf urged me to go check on her. Shaking my head trying to clear my thoughts I kept going towards the forest that I so desperately needed to escape into for a while. I stopped just as I was about to enter the woods. The prancing and growling my wolf was causing in the back of my mind had to stop. Turning on my heel I headed back to the pack hospital. I would poke my head in, make sure she was fine, and then go out for my run. There both sides win and maybe he would shut up about it.

As I neared the door to her room I could hear 2 voices. Hers and my Betas. Fire flew through my blood. What was he doing here and in my mate’s room by himself? I crept closer to the crack in the door and saw him holding her hand. Slamming her door completely open “What the fuck are you doing in here?”
