Chapter 1

(Sophia: 9 years old. Ryder: 10 years old.)

"You do know that the fifth graders are coming with us on the field trip right?" My best friend Kalene asked. We were both in the fourth grade and our science class was taking a field trip to the botanical gardens and the fifth graders were to tag along as well.

I shook my head. "Not really. I thought it was just us."

"Well, they are." She said, looking out the bus window towards where the teachers were talking with one another and the bus drivers, getting everything situated for the tour. Once the teachers stepped on and told us it was time for the tour I and Kalene both stood up from our seats in the front and climbed off the bus, walking inside the botanical garden.

As I was looking at a Bell Flower Cherry Blossom, I felt a pair of eyes on me. I raised my head looking around before my eyes met with a pair of soft grey eyes. Grey eyes... holy heaven baby in the manger, they were beautiful.

I smiled at him. He smiled back.

"Who is he?" Kalene asked, interrupting my thoughts.

"I...I don't know, he must be one of the fifth graders." I said softly.

She nodded, before moving onto the next flower to look at.

I frowned at her backside before turning back to mysterious grey eyes, only to notice he was no longer standing there.

"Hi." I tensed up at the voice, looking and seeing grey eyes.

"H...Hi," I replied, blushing.

"I'm Ryder Davis." He said holding his out hand to me.

"S...Sophia Hamilton." I stuttered as I shook his hand.

"Shall we be friends?" He asked in an adorable shy way with a cute smile that showed he had a dimple in his left cheek.

I smiled and nodded.

"Hey, little nuts... Enjoying Mr. Ryder's company?" I saw a guy coming up from behind, keeping his hand on Ryder's shoulder. Ryder's body tensed upon contact and he lowered his head.

"I don't think you should talk to this guy, he's nothing but a loser dork." the guy said.

"The only loser dork here is you." Kalene came out of nowhere and spoke.

"Really?... Okay, how about we show them who the real loser dork is Ryder? Hm?" The guy said.

Ryder kept his head down.

"Leave him alone," I said as I got closer to the guy. But he only ignored me and said, "This nut here, is a good go nothing loser, stupid head..." the guy said, hitting Ryder in the head. I stepped even closer. "I. Said. Leave. Him. Alone. Before I get Mrs. Pearl on you if you hurt him."

The guy looks at me and smirks. I mean he just freaking smirked. Like he owned the dang place. Idiot. Finally, he turned around and left.

"Are you okay?" I asked Ryder concerned.

He nodded. "I-I'm s-sorry... Bye." He said and walked away as well, leaving both me and Kalene standing there confused and worried that the guy will hurt him. But for some odd reason, I felt like we could be good friends. I don't get attracted to boys, not saying I'm into girls or anything, it's just I'm only nine. And not looking for a relationship at a young age. But this boy... He can be an exception.

*2 years later*
(Sophia: 11 years old. 6th grade. Ryder:12 years old. 7th grade.)

"Hey, dork! Come here and pick this shit up!" Ken yelled. I looked over to see they were troubling Ryder again.

I stood from my desk and walked over. I picked up his pen and slammed it on his desk. "There you go!" I all but growled as I grabbed Ryder's hand pulling him from the class.

"You didn't have to do that," Ryder spoke up.

I smiled sweetly at him. "Friends help each other. Plus, Ken is a jerk." I stated.

He chuckled and kissed my cheek, making me blush like a beetroot. "Thank you, Sophia." He said.

Did he... he just kiss me? Oh my god!

I hate to admit it, but this timid boy got my cheeks red. He wasn't an exact definition of strong but I still like him.

*1 Year later*
(Sophia: 12 years old. 7th grade. Ryder: 13 years old. 8th grade)

"Did your mom shout at you again?" Ryder asked, concern lacing his voice.

I nodded as I was wiping the tears away.

He said beside me, his hand slowly rubbing my back. "Don't worry... She's only just caring for you." He said.

Little did he know that I was being abused by both my mom and step-dad. But, I stayed silent. I didn't want it to come between us. He was with me and that was all I needed.

*4 years later*
(Sophia: 16 years old. Sophomore year. Ryder: 17 years old. Junior year)

I shut my locker, chuckling at Kalene huffing.

"What?" She asked with a frown on her beautiful yet tired face.

"You look dead." I taunted, a smirk on my face.

"Well duh... I couldn't sleep because I kept searching for a prom dress online all night last night." She said with a yawn.

I nodded and laughed... Prom... I sighed as my eyes went to the banner hanging behind her talking about prom.

Suddenly I felt a tap on my shoulder, I turned around only to be met with the chest of my half crush.

Ryder Davis. He stood at 6'2 while I was only 5'2. He was built, and when I tell you built, I mean like he had muscles and all. His brown hair was in the adorable yet hot messy way that looked like he just rolled out of bed and only ran his fingers through it. His silver-grey eyes were looking every before finally landing on my pale blue ones.

"Hi," He spoke.

Even though he looked built and tall and looked broody and sexy, he was timid, shy and sometimes became the victim of pranks... I still liked him.

His silver-grey eyes made me want to look in them until dark and get lost. I bet they shined in the darkness. Oh, how I wish he would get bold enough and just ask me out. But he just won't.

"Yeah?" I asked with my kind sweet smile.

"U...Um, I was you go to p...prom? W...with me?" He asked as he rubbed the back of his neck.

My eyes went wide. Yes! Of Course!

But before I could say anything and say yes Ryder received a harsh hit to his head.

" dared to ask her out? You are such a dork." Ken's annoying voice pipped in, chuckling.

I frowned. Why was Ken always targetting him? He has been targetting him for eight years now.

"Leave me alone," Ryder spoke softly.

"Oh, Okay... not before..." Ken spoke, stopping before he finished what he was saying and punched Ryder. Hard. And in the face.

I gasped. My eyes widening. I wrapped an arm around Ryder's waist and glared at Ken. "What the hell is your problem, Ken?! Leave us alone! You know very well what Kalene and I can do, Ken!" I threatened him.

He runs a hand through his hair before returning my glare with one of his own and turned on his heel and walked away.

He once slapped a girl when Kalene and I decided to take action. He ended up suspended for a week. Since then he hated my guts and hasn't looked in my direction since. But he never bothered me as well.

"Are you okay?... Oh no... You're bleeding! Let's go get you cleaned and fixed up." I helped him outside to the student parking lot, sitting him on the bench near Kalene's car while she went to go grab the first aid kit that her overprotective nurse for a mother makes her carry around in her car.

I grabbed a cotton ball and began patting Ryder's nose, cleaning the blood. "It's okay, I can do it myself." I ignored him and continued to take care of him. I could feel him watching me.

"About your question...the one about answer is Yes, I'll go with you," I replied, finishing up with cleaning his face.

He looked up at me with wide eyes, before relaxing and smiling sadly. "That's okay. You don't have to. I don't think your friends will like you going with a boy like me." He stated.

"I don't care what my friends think, you are something more than those are sweet, and I like it." I smiled as I stood back from between his knees.

"Um...Uh...T...thanks." He said blushing.

My smile grew bigger. "Okay... I'll see you tomorrow." I said, almost practically skipping with joy.

*The next day*

I took a deep breath, looking down at my dress, it was a red dress with a silk halter top and a big puffy tulle skirt. My hair was curled and most of it pinned to the top of my head with strands handing down to frame my face.

I smooth my sweaty palms over the front of my dress before opening the front door and stepping out onto the porch only come to a stop and take in the sight of Ryder in a tux, standing at the bottom of my porch steps.

Wow. He was absolutely handsome. His tie was the same color as my dress, complimenting it.

"Hey," He whispered as his eyes looked me over from head to toe.

"Hi," I whispered in return, blushing.

"M...My sister is taking us there by car." He said as he cleared his throat, extending his hand to help me. I smile and place my hand in his and let him lead me to an expensive-looking black car.

Oh yeah... that's because his family is rich.

We both climbed into the back seat and his sister chirped a hello before driving off.

"Um... I wanted to give this to you..." Ryder handed me a small velvet box like the ones you get at Jared's Jewelry Store.

"What?" I asked hesitantly.

"For you." He cleared his neck nervously as he rubbed the back of his neck.

"T..thank you." I slowly took the box and opened it. I gasped.

Inside laid a beautiful blue diamond orchid pendant. "R..Ryder it's beautiful!" I smiled at him. I ran my fingers over the flower and smiled. He smiled nervously, blushing.

"I saw it and knew how much you loved orchids. I just knew you had to have it. " He smiled sheepishly.

"Thank you." I smiled and had him help me put it on.

I folded my small hand around the pendant, smiling.

His sister finally dropped us off and we walked inside hand in hand to be greeted by my friends.

"So... the dork is finally here," Ken said, stepping in front of us, looking us over.

I ignored him and grabbed Ryder's hand and pulled him over to my friends.

"Guys, this is Ryder Davis." I introduced him.
