Chapter 13

Asher’s POV

After coming back to the house on pack grounds, I thought over everything that happened while at the fight club. Seeing Kaia up on that ring made my heart leap out of my chest with pride. At first, I was worried to death about her. She just kept standing there letting her opponent pummel into her. But I soon realized her strategy plan, and I couldn’t help the feeling of pride watching her take every single person’s money in that room. But to top it all off, she was fighting a werewolf the entire time and she didn’t even know it. I don’t know how it’s possible for someone her size to do that amount of damage but I watched in awe. It almost didn’t seem human.

I watched her as she walked over to collect her winnings from Finn. I finally built up the courage to go and talk to her. “You did great out there,” I said to her as I was nervously waiting for a response.

“Thanks. What are you doing here?” Her voice was so calm, you wouldn’t even think that she just got done beating some chick’s skull in.

Shit. She probably thinks I’m some stalker and followed her here. ”Well, you pretty much did,” my wolf said. I played off my uneasiness with a laugh. “I’ve actually fought here before...plus, Sebastian told me that you would be here tonight.” I bit my lip and looked down hoping she wouldn’t think I was a freak.

“Oh, so you were looking for me, huh?” Oh, fuck. She totally thinks I’m a stalker now. I looked up at her and was relieved to see that she had a teasing, and possibly, even a flirty smile on her face. God, she should do that more. Smile. It makes her look even more gorgeous than she already is.

Okay. I’m going to go ahead and get it over with and ask her out already. I was so nervous that I couldn’t help shifting my weight from foot to foot. However, looking at her, I couldn’t muster up the courage. “Uh, yeah. I was wondering if you may help me out in chemistry.” Why. The. Hell. Did. I. Just. Say. That... “I’m not doing too well and I need to raise my grades up. I saw you looking at the teacher but you never took any notes and yet, you passed the pop quiz. So I figured you may be able to help me out.” Yeah, way to go Asher. You’re the werewolf and yet you’re scared to ask your mate out on a date.

She looked a little confused and slightly disappointed, but she quickly replaced it with a blank mask. “Um sure, I guess...I don’t know if I’ll have a lot of time to help you. And I’m not staying later at school to help you either. I’m not staying in that gateway to hell longer than necessary.”

I chuckled at her response, “Sounds good. How about you come over to my place and we can study there?” I couldn’t help looking at her with all the feelings that I felt towards her. She gave me a quick nod that looked a little frantic. I internally smiled at her little spastic action as I turned to walk away.

After returning back to my house, I went to my dad’s office since he was up late working on new alliances with surround packs in America. I walked into the room and knocked on the side of the door. He glanced up at me with tired eyes from hours of working on signing papers. “Hey, dad. Is it okay if I have a girl over tomorrow after school? She’s going to help me with my chemistry work.” I held my breath, waiting for my dad’s response.

“I’m assuming she’s human or else you wouldn’t be asking for my permission. You’re asking so she doesn’t start wondering why there are massive wolves walking around the yard.”

I bit my lip and said in an almost vulnerable voice, “Yeah. See the thing is...she’s actually my mate.” I mumbled the last part of the sentence.

My dad’s eyes went wide. “Your mate? You never told me or mom that you’ve found her.” He stood up and came around the desk towards me and pulled me in for a hug. “I’m so happy for you. Do we get to meet her tomorrow? Have you shown her your wolf yet?” I haven’t seen my dad look this happy since my sister Poppy found her mate and moved to his pack.

“Um, no. See, she doesn’t know werewolves even exist yet. She’s a tough chick and I don’t think she’ll adjust as quickly as other humans do. She seems to not let anyone in on her personal life so I’m just trying to take things slow with her.”

My dad smiled at me and gave me a pat on the back. “I’m sure everything will work out son. You weren’t put as mates for nothing.” Yeah, say that to Easton and his mate, I thought to myself.

I walked towards my room down the hall and got into bed. I felt so giddy just thinking about tomorrow when Kaia will be in this same room with me. I think I might actually make a move. Only if I think that she’s feeling it though. I don’t want to ruin things between us before they even get started.

---------------------------------------------------

Kaia’s POV

I woke up actually feeling excited to go to school today. Not because I’ll see Asher or anything. Okay, fine. I can’t even lie to myself on that one. I arrived in chemistry pretending that I didn’t see Asher sitting there already.

“Hey, Kaia.” Fucking hell. That voice gets me every time, and the way that my name rolls off his tongue is doing lots of things to my lady bits at the moment. I wonder how he would sound saying other things...I force myself out of my thoughts so I could respond.

“Hey, Ash.” Fuck. Fuck. FUCK! I just gave him a nickname. Dear, God. I GAVE HIM A NICKNAME! What is happening to me? Anyone looking at me from the outside would have no idea that I was quite literally having a full-blown, Britney Spears meltdown inside.

He gave me a big, dimpled smile. How the hell did I not see those there before? As if he couldn’t get any hotter, he just had to have dimples too? “You still coming over after school? I can give you a ride if you want.”

“Yeah. That sounds great.” I gave him a warm smile.

The day went by so agonizingly slow that I contemplated multiple times on whether I should just jump out of the second-story window in calculus to get it over with. Finally, gym class came around where I knew I’d see Asher again. I pretended not to notice him the entire class period even though I could feel his eyes watching my every move. I was actually nervous when class ended and me and Asher walked towards his car.

I gave a low whistle at his...not car...but...motorcycle. I thought I was about to cum just at the sight of him straddling the seat of his bike. I approached the bike and was about to climb on until he stopped me with a hand on my arm. Without saying a word, he reached over, grabbed his helmet, and pushed it onto my head. I felt little sparks spread from my face to my heart from where his fingers touched me. I could feel my cheeks reddening from the action. I was fucking blushing! At that moment though, I didn’t care. I climbed on his bike, wrapping both arms around his torso, and we rode off towards his house.

--------------------------------------------------

We arrived at Asher’s house which was in some kind of secluded neighborhood. Let’s just say, I would not be walking around here at nighttime. I’m pretty sure that I see the Texas Chainsaw Massacre’s house from here. Asher had told me that Hayden, Easton, and Sebastian live in this neighborhood as well.

We walked upstairs and down the hall towards Asher’s room. I looked around once we got inside and noticed that he had dark-grey walls, a king-size bed, and a bathroom attached to the side of his room. I looked back at Asher and noticed that he was contemplating whether or not he should shut his bedroom door. I quickly looked away and left him to figure it out. I walked towards his bed and sat down. I guess that answered his internal thoughts because I heard him shut the door afterward.

“So...what are you having problems with in chemistry?” I asked him to make the silence a little less awkward.

He looked relieved since I spoke. “Umm...kind of everything. I just don’t understand anything Mr. Smith is saying. It’s like he’s speaking a different language.” I looked at him and couldn’t help looking down at his lips as he spoke. What I wouldn’t do to have those lips chowing down on my pus...

“Kaia? You, okay?” Asher’s voice broke through my dirty thoughts. I looked up at him. His eyes filled with lust as if he knew what I was thinking.

“What? Oh, yeah. I’m fine. Just a little tired from all the work at school today.” I lied, knowing good and well he knew it too.

He looked at me, trying to hide a smile. “Well, in that case. Do you just want to talk for a little bit and do some tutoring later?”

“Sure.” I shrugged, acting as if it didn’t matter.

Somehow or another, we ended up laying next to each other looking up at the ceiling while answering questions back and forth.

Right now, I was laughing so hard from the story that Asher told me, about the time that he and Easton had caught Hayden practicing on asking Mia out in the mirror. Asher said that he has been in love with her for years.

As our laughter died down, it was my turn to ask a question. I dared to ask the question that could either make things better or worse between us. “Have you ever thought about kissing me?” There, I finally asked it. I find that it’s better to just be straight forward in these kinds of situations.

I looked over towards Asher slightly scared for what I will find. As I moved my head, my eyes locked onto two forest green ones. So much emotion was swirling in those eyes that I felt myself holding my breath waiting for a response. Instead of replying, he leaned forward and captured my lips with his. I have never felt a more passionate or affectionate kiss in my life. Most kisses I have with guys are sloppy and demanding. But Asher’s kiss was different.

I felt sparks zipping through my body at the contact of his lips. He turned towards me slightly and put his hand on the back of my head, cradling it, as he deepened the kiss. I could feel myself breathing a little harder than usual and felt the heat in my core start to grow with every kiss. I have never felt a kiss more right than this one. But just as soon as the kiss began, Asher pulled back and rested his forehead on mine.

“I have been wanting to do that ever since I saw you kick Hailey Collins’ ass at that party,” he said in a lust-filled voice.

We rolled back onto our backs and lay in silence for a few minutes. “It’s your turn. Ask me anything,” I said smiling.

He lay, quietly thinking for a minute before turning over and saying, “Tell me something real about you. Like, where are your parents? Do you have any siblings? Give me something that shows me who the real Kaia Jones is. I hardly know a single thing about you, and yet, I’ve been telling you everything about me.”

It felt like a bucket of ice-cold water had been dumped on my head. My smile quickly left my face as my blank mask returned, immediately closing off from Asher again. I got up in a sitting position and started to pull my shoes on.

I felt Asher grab my shoulder. “Hey, look. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to pry. Just lay back down and we can keep talking, okay?” I looked back and saw the worried expression on his face.

I shrugged his hand off and stood up after grabbing my bag. “You want to know who the real Kaia Jones is? She’s a bitch. She screws around with guys who could care less about her other than her body. She definitely doesn’t date. And you know what? She likes it that way. She hates that just because she shares a meaningless kiss with someone, doesn’t mean that he gets to ask her, her whole fucking life story.”

I turned around and walked towards the door leaving a confused and hurt Asher behind. I turned off my feelings and walked straight out of his door, down the stairs, and out of his house working my way back home.

I decided to give you guys a longer chapter this time. The drama is heating up between Kaia and Asher? What do you guys think is going to happen?

Do you think Kaia is being dramatic or has a right to be closed off about her past?

Do you think Asher isn’t pushing hard enough for the mate bond? Let me know your thoughts.
