Chapter 39

Ash sat on the edge of the bed, her eyes wide and her mouth open. She stared at me without blinking, without moving.

Is she angry about what I said?

“Ash, if that is not what you want, then forgive me for mentioning it. I just thought-”

“You can do that?” She breathed out with wide eyes, “You can fix me?”

I smiled, “Yes. If that is what you want.”

And I would be so honored to be the father. Don’t say that to her, not yet.

A tear slipped from her eyes but she smiled so wide. She jumped back onto the bed, and with one quick motion, she sat on top of my hips and bent down to kiss me with so much intensity that for a moment I thought she would want to try now.

She sat up and stared into my eyes with a light like I had never seen before.

“All I ever wanted was to be a mother. You have no idea how happy you have just made me.”

“I can see that,” I said as I shifted her off my hip bone. The problem now was that she sat on top of me. I swallowed and tried as hard as I could to not react to the sensation.

She smiled, “Now all I need is to find a handsome, strong, smart and caring man to make this baby with.”

I grinned, “Wherever will you find such a mythical creature?”

Her smile faded a little as she looked at me, “Are you really willing to do this? We only just met.”

“Ash,” I said and rolled us so that I lay on top of her, “I was willing to do this from the moment I saw you. And to see you this happy, I would do anything.”

She covered her face with her hands as a soft squeak came from her. When her hands moved away she smiled again with a rosy blush on her cheeks.

“Okay. In one year, if we are still together, and we still want to do this, then we can try for one. I want to spend a bit of time with just you for a while.”

I smiled, “You will always have me. Whenever you want.”

She bit her lip and I could see her eyes change to a look of desire.

I leaned down to kiss her again and as our lips touched, I heard voices from inside the house.

Take it slow, Zas. Let her be the one to come to you.

I pulled away and smiled at her, “I think my brother is back. Do you want to stay here, or go out there?”

She let out a sigh, “I think we better go out there.”

I nodded and rolled off the bed. I held out my hand to her and helped her to her feet.

With one last kiss, I hesitantly went to my bag and pulled out a shirt. When I was dressed, we left my room and made our way downstairs.

“How was the walk, brother?” I asked, and didn’t miss the satisfied smile on Connie’s face.

“It was fine, brother,” he said not giving anything away.

“I’m sure it was,” I mumbled to myself and gave him a knowing smile.

He just rolled his eyes at me, but I saw the grin on his face as he turned away.

I went to him and when I saw Ash and Connie wander off to the far side of the room, I said, “Brother, I have never felt this happy before.”

He turned to me, “So I take it you and Ash spoke?”

“We did more than that. She let me in, Raylon and it is beautiful.”

“I’m happy for you, Zas. Truly,” he said and placed a hand on my shoulder. I heard Connie squeal and looked over to see them embrace each other.

I believe everyone knows now.
