It was later in the day when she paused in the kitchen and looked at him as he smiled and said, “I think this is our first argument as a couple.”
“Damnit Mitsuhide why can’t you be normal and stop thinking of everything as a first?”, she smiled back
“Because I am not normal, my love, and neither are you.”, he said as he reached out for her.
“Fine. It is. I still have to go home.”, she said.
“No, you don’t.”, he replied as he tucked her under her chin.
“I do!”, she said as she was now getting frustrated beyond belief at his insistence that she didn’t.
“Why?”, he asked.
“I already went over that. I need to get some clothes at the very least, but I also need to get my car and a few other things. I still don’t see why we can’t just go to my house.”, she said.
“Because I want to stay here.”, he stated.
“Why is that so important. You like my house.”, she said. “Plus, it is bigger you already said that as well.”
“It is but, “he started he couldn’t use his gift of words in describing his need to have her there in his domain rather than hers. “I can’t state it. Please don’t be difficult. When I can say it with the correct words, I will.”
“Mitsuhide!”, She whined out, but when she looked at him, she could see it written in his eyes. He really couldn’t say why it was so important to him. Her heart turned into a pile of goo and she couldn’t even fake the anger she was building too a few moments before. “Fine.”
“What did you say?”, he asked unsure that his perfect hearing was actually correct.
“I said fine, but I do have to go home for a few minutes. I do have to get some clothes, and other things, but only to return here with you.”, She said, and she saw what her heart had wanted all along. His smile was a sight to be seen if you could get him to give a real smile instead of the one, he thought was a smile. That one was a condescending smirk that made most people want to smack it off his face. She loved his smile, the real one almost as much as he loved cookies. “We also have to go to the grocery store. I can not live on Sake and rice alone.”
“For you, I will brave the food place.”, he said with a chuckle.
“Mitsuhide.”, she said shaking her head and wondered if all the fights they will have will end up like this one. “I may even buy you those cookies.”
He let out a bark of laughter that was music to her soul. She had seen him in all ways but when he was like this it made her incredibly happy to see what their shared future would be like. “I do like those cookies. I thought you had made them, but I still like them even if you didn’t.”
“I know. I never had the heart to tell you. I thought you stayed around for them.”, she smiled.
“Oh, I stayed around for something better than the cookies. Sometimes though it is not as sweet as them.”, he said.
“Oh yeah, and what is that?”, she asked.
“You.”, he said as he kissed the back of her neck.
“I may hold you to that, that I am better than those cookies. They are my favorite too.”, she said as he traced up the back of her neck to her hairline with his tongue bringing shivers to her spine.
“You are slightly better than the cookies.”, he said softly.
“You might be as well.”, she replied.
“I don’t know about that.”, he said as he spun her around. “Well if we are going to do this, we should do this now. I do have some work to do so why don’t we go to the grocery store then I will drop you off and come back and do what I have too while you get what you need.”
“That sounds like a plan.”, she had said and smiled at him.
“Good.”, he said still gripping her hips and holding them in place.
“Mitsuhide. We can’t leave if you’re holding me.”, she stated.
“I know.”, he whispered as he leaned in, she ducked out of the way, and he was confused when she looked at him again. “What the hell, kit?”
“Let’s go. Then more touchy time, Mitsuhide.”, she said. “Who knows what else.”
“Let’s go.”, he said as his hands released her and she went to the front of the house.
“I need to get you a key.”, he stated.
“I have a key remember?”, she asked.
“Oh yeah, I did give you one when I had the fish you made me get.”, he said.
“I didn’t make you get him.”, she stated.
“You nearly demanded I get the fish.”, he said laughing. “You couldn’t because of your cat.”
“I miss spot.”, she said with a sigh.
“That was the meanest animal on the planet, princess. The cat couldn’t even meow. It just kind of grunted at you.”, he said laughing.
“That doesn’t change the fact I miss spot.”, she said as she made a face at him.
“Do you want another cat?”, he asked as his brain was screaming, please let her say no, please!
“I am not sure if a cat would be a good fit for us.”, She said. He let out a huge sigh with relief. “Maybe a dog?”
“A dog?”, he asked. “I could see that. Just not a little ankle biter.”
“How about a fox?”, she asked.
“A fox?”, he said. “I think that would be too much work.”
“It was worth a try.”, she shrugged her shoulders. “Maybe a dog then.”
“We will see.”, He replied knowing if she wanted a dog a dog would be in the house in two hours. He could say no to her if he tried. Just as he knew if she wanted a cat there would be a cat in the house regardless of how he personally felt about them. Spot, her cat, was a stray that found itself staying around her home when she had moved in. The thing was in bad shape then, she somehow won its trust and was the only person it let near it. She had that way about her.
“What are you thinking about?”, she asked as she looked up at him.
“Nothing.”, he said as he smiled at her.
“Sure. You don’t get that look when you are thinking about nothing.”, she said as he took her hand and led her outside.
“Thinking how life with you by my side will be different.”, he said.
“Different?”, she asked as she tilted her head, “As in different good or different bad?”
“Just different. Not either good or bad I am sure we will see both. It will certainly be more full though.”, he said.
“Full of what?”, she asked as he opened the car door for her and she sat down.
“Everything. Full of animals, full of friends, and full of other things too.”, He replied. She wondered what the other things were, but she knew what he had meant. It would be more full of everything. “Now what are you thinking about?”
“Life being more full, Mitsuhide. I can’t say I don’t like the idea of it.”, She replied and then settled into a comfortable silence as they drove to the store and walked through it hand in hand as he tossed things in that he thought he might like and she did more careful shopping. When they got to the checkout, he dutifully bagged as she rang up the things and when the total came up, she smiled as he ripped her away to pay. “I can pay.”
“I know. Maybe one day I will let you.”, he said, “Maybe when we stay at your house.”
“Mitsuhide you already said you didn’t want to do that.”, she replied.
“I know,” he smirked.
“Urg.”, She retorted and looked at him. Out of everyone on the planet, her heart chose this one man to love. She had to wonder at her own tastes. She shrugged her shoulders at the idea and hmphed as they made their way back to his car.
“You love me, admit it.”, he said.
“I do that is the reason I am questioning myself.’, she said with an evil smile.
“You wound me.”, he said as he chuckled. “Come on. I’ll drop you off at your place. Just know if you aren’t home in an hour I will come and find you.”
“I figured as much.”, she said.
“If I didn’t have plans to review, you wouldn’t be left to yourself at all.”, he replied.
“Well thank you paperwork.”, she said as she chuckled.
“Don’t like being the center of my attention?”, he asked.
“I don’t mind it, but it still feels a little weird Mitsuhide. Like three days ago you were just my best friend. Now you are my best friend with different sleeping arrangements.”, She said. He laughed.
“I am slightly more than that.”, he said when he stopped laughing. “Just as you are with me.”
“I know that, but it seemed forever to get us here and then we are here. It is like meeting at the crossroads.”, she said.
“Well, what road do you see us on?”, he asked. “The long one for moving things forward or the shorter one?”
“Does it matter?”, she asked as he pulled into her driveway.
“Not to me as long as we are on the same path.”, he said.
“I think I would like the shorter one.”, she said, and his grin deepened.
“Oh, do you now?”, he said with his silenced tone. “My sweet innocent girl isn’t so innocent, is she?”
“You have no idea, Mitsuhide.”, She said as she opened the door to get out. He leaned over and kissed her before she could.
“I think I would like to find out.”, he whispered on her lips.
“And maybe one day you will.”, She smiled as she kissed him back. She stood and waved him off as she walked up to her door. She opened the door to find her house just the way she left it. She looked around though, and something seemed a little off. She walked in and then she looked behind her to see if he was there in the driveway. He had pulled out and was down the street. She shrugged her shoulders and closed the door. She then went to the closet and grabbed a suitcase and began filling it up. She threw everything in, knowing she could sort it out at his house. She walked in and grabbed her soaps and everything else she could think of. She closed the lid and lifted the suitcase and nearly ran out of the house.
She got into the car with the suitcase in the back seat. She pulled out of the driveway as she thought she saw something move in the windows. She thought maybe it was something in her imagination, but with the feeling she had of inside the house, she knew it wasn’t. Again, without him knowing it, Mitsuhide probably saved her life.
When she pulled into his driveway, he came out and looked at her. She looked at him. He knew something was wrong. She walked around the car and into his waiting arms, where she knew she was safe. “What is it?”, he asked.
“I don’t want to go back there Mitsuhide. I think someone was in there.”, she said.
“You what?”, he asked.
“It’s nothing.”, she said.
“Bullshit.”, he said.
“Mitsuhide it is probably nothing.”, she said.
“Well, we will see about that. Princess, you won’t be going alone anywhere alone.”, He stated, and she smiled at this side of him. She knew she was safe from what she wondered though.
