Summary

As Patrick from Perks Of being a Wallflower once said “I guess we are who we are for alot of reasons. And maybe we’ll never know most of them.” I could never understand why Sammy was the way he was. And after all this time I finally understood, he never told me why he acted the way he did because he himself didn’t know. And who would I be to blame him for it? Who am I to blame his parents for his tendency to abandon people he loved the most and hurt people he was afraid to love? He got it from his parents, his parents got it from theirs, and their parents got it from theirs. It's a never ending cycle of a series of unfortunate events. I don’t blame anyone but this screwed up world. Call it a bittersweet love story, or a tragedy, but in the end it’s just a sad story of a girl who loved a boy.

Chapter One

“Did you guys see the new cute guy?” Bethany had an extreme obsession with boys, so it didn’t surprise me she would mention the new kid I saw walking to class early this morning.

“He wasn’t cute, he was hot. Did you see those muscles..hot damn.” Lou comments as she drags her pizza to her mouth.

“Oh please he was below average.” I say. Okay maybe I was lying but I can’t admit that out loud especially since I have a boyfriend.

“Come on Sadie, just cuz you have a boyfriend doesn’t mean you can’t say another boy is cute, it's not like you’re throwing yourself at him.” I look down and attempt to cover my face with my hair. I stay quiet.

“Speaking of your boyfriend, where’s Mike?” Bethany asks, knowing full well that he’s with his friends.

“Eating lunch with his friends.” I say sadly.

“Girl, when are you going to dump that douchebag? He never makes time for you.” Lou said. What she says is true but I can’t help but stand up for him.

“He’s just busy. It’s senior year and he has to worry about grades, college essays and applications.” I knew what I was saying was completely made up of excuses.

“Sadie, that’s no excuse.” Lou voices my thoughts.

“As SayGrace once said, ‘Boys aint shit.’ Drop his ass sis. He ain’t worth your time. It’s your senior year and you should be living your last year of high school having fun not being depressed over some guy who won’t give you the time of day. What happened to the Sadie that stood for all of that?” Bethany says.

“I fell in love, that’s what happened.” I say sternly. I’m getting tired of hearing the same old shit from them. Yes I am well aware of everything they are telling me.

“Nah girl, you’re in love with what Mike displayed for you in the beginning. He came off as this nice guy who wanted to give you the world, and now his true colors are revealed, he isn't in love with anyone but himself.” Lou said as Bethany nods her head in agreement. I look at both of them and soak in everything they're saying.

“Fuck, you guys are completly right,” I could feel the tears burn my eyes. Why do I always fall for the ones that treat me like shit? “I’m gonna go to the restroom, don’t wait on me, I’ll see you next period Beth.” I grab my bag and get up from the lunch table.

“Okay, bye Sadie. See you later.” Lou stares at me. I can tell she wants to come with me to make sure I’m okay but what I really need is to be alone. I smile at her reassuringly and walk away.

…...

With everything the girls told me I should be marching my ass to the courtyard and ending it right then and there, but anger isn’t what's boiling me to the core, loneliness is. I know you shouldn’t seek a boy to drown out the depressing thoughts in your head and you shouldn’t be with someone just to fill the lonely gap in your heart. But I can’t help the way I feel. My parents aren’t really there for me at least not for emotional support. The only people I have are Beth and Lou. And don’t get me wrong I love them to death. But I want something more than friendship with someone. But I guess I’m dreaming too hard. God, why am I so depressing?

I look at my reflection in the mirror and roll my eyes. Get over yourself, I scowl. I faintly hear the passing bell ring and grab my stuff and rush out the bathroom door. After I take one step out the door I collide with another body.

“Watch where you’re going.” I rush out. I look up to see who I hit, and sure enough it’s the new mystery guy Bethany and Lou were gushing about.

“I should be the one saying that.” He smirks at me. I look him up and down and roll my eyes. Today is just not my day.

“Yeah whatever.” I turn on my heels and walk to class.

“As you know today is my first day here and I’m having trouble finding my next class. You don’t happen to know where art class is do you?” He speeds up to catch up to me.

“Yeah, that's my next class too. Just follow me.”

“Okay, thanks, I'm Samuel by the way. But everyone calls me Sammy.” He flashes me a bright smile. If Beth or Lou were with us they’d be sure to faint, but not me. I don’t buy the nice guy act. I’ve completely given up on guys. I’m just going to assume every guy has a secret agenda. But just for the hell of it I play along.

“Sadie. Sorry about snapping at you. It hasn’t really been the best day for me.” I sigh. We turn down the hall and I slow down my steps.

“Lemme guess trouble in paradise?” He looks at me awaiting an answer.

“How’d you know?” I raise an eyebrow at him.

“With girls it’s either boy trouble or it’s their time of the month.” He chuckles at my expression.

“That is so not true.” I glare at Sammy.

“Sure, whatever you say.” He puts his hands up in surrender. We come to a stop and in front of us is the art door.

“Well, it was nice meeting you Sammy.” I smile at him.

“It was nice meeting you too Sadie.” Before I could walk through the door he tucks a strand of my hair behind my ear and smiles back at me warmly. Then he walks away. I just stand there in shock and confusion.

What the fuck just happen? And why do my knees feel weak?
