"So you needed my help with finding you something casual to wear?" Francisco, my sister's husband, asked for what felt like the millionth time. I swear this man does this every single time I ask him for something. It's like he can't believe that I'm asking him for help.
"For the last time, Francisco. Yes!" I exclaimed. He snickered.
"I'm just making sure because you never ask for my help when it comes to your clothing choices," He smiled, "And it's not that you need it anyways."
"And how would you know?" I inquired.
"Because, Em, your sense of style goes beyond my expectations to be honest," He answered, "Plus you've always been a great dresser."
"Thanks, Francisco," I smiled.
"Wait. How come you're so willing to help my sister and not me?" Harmony asked.
"Because you don't ask for my help," He answered.
"What? Yes I do," Harmony responded.
"No you don't, mom," Desmond said.
"Yeah. You always tell dad that you don't need help," Nikki spoke up. Francisco smirked at my sister who flipped him the bird. He laughed along with my nieces.
"Anyways. He said to dress causal, but what kind of casual are you going for?" Francisco inquired. Desmond and Nikki both headed to my closet together.
"Dad, there's a camouflage jacket and pants with the price tag still on it," Desmond called from my walk-in.
"Plus some boots she's never worn," Nikki added.
"I don't know which one is going to take over for me," Francisco chuckled. My sister, Francisco, and I all exchanged looks.
"Baylee," We said in unison. We shared a laugh together.
"What about Baylee?" My youngest niece asked as she entered the room.
"Nothing," We all responded.
"Oh okay," She walked over and climbed onto my bed right next to her mother.
"Ooh! She has this black bodysuit to go with it!" Desmond exclaimed.
"Bring 'em out! Bring 'em out!" Francisco told them. The girls laughed and brought out what they found from my closet.
"I don't know about this," I murmured warily.
"Me too. Let's pick something else," Harmony agreed. She got off my bed and headed towards my closet.
"Sorry, guys. I'll wear it next time," I said.
"Fine," Desmond rolled her eyes. Harmony came back with a pair of red over-the-knee boots, an oversized white cowl neck sweater, and an oversized denim jacket.
"Hm," Francisco nodded, "That looks so much better."
"Thanks," My sister grinned.
"Go put this on real quick," Harmony said. I took it from her and headed to my bathroom where I stripped out of the house coat I had on and put on the outfit. I walked out and everyone looked at me in awe.
"Put your house coat back on so I can do your make up and hair," Harmony said. I nodded and did as she said before sitting at my vanity.
An hour later, Harmony finished doing my make up and my hair. When I looked in the mirror, I was very much so impressed with her handiwork.
"Thanks, Harmony," I smiled as I put in a pair of big silver hoops.
"You're welcome. I hope you have fun on your date," She smiled back.
"Thank you. I will," I responded before I went to let them out all out after we said our goodbyes. I headed bake upstairs to check my appearance for any flaws. Once I was satisfied with how I looked, I placed my jacket on my shoulders and grabbed my purse. Butterflies fluttered in my stomach as soon as I heard the doorbell ring. I grabbed my phone and headed downstairs to open the door. A small smile came over my lips and when I saw him on the other side, the butterflies in my stomach went even more crazier at his appearance.
His blue eyes darkened as he took in my appearance. A throbbing sensation formed between my thighs and I bit my lip.
"You look very gorgeous," He looked back at my eyes.
"Th-Thanks," I stammered a little, "You look very handsome."
"Thank you. These are for you," He replied. He hands me a bouquet of lavender roses.
"These are beautiful," I beamed.
"Not as beautiful as you," He said.
"Thank you," I smiled, "Come on in while I put these in some water."
He walked inside and I closed the door behind him. I headed to my kitchen and grabbed a vase to put them in. Once that was done, I walked to where he was.
"I'm ready," I informed him. He smiled at me again and we walked out of my house. I locked my door and headed to the car with him. He opened the door for me like a gentleman and I got in. He closed the door and jogged to his side to get in.
"So where are you taking me tonight?" I asked.
"That's for me to know and you to find out," He smiled.
"So secretive," I remarked. He let out a chuckle.
"That and I love seeing that same expression you wore on your face when I took you to the botanical garden," He said.
"I take it that your mission is to surprise me every single time we go on a date?" I inquired.
"Yes," He nodded.
"Well I can't wait to see what you do next," I replied.
"I have a few ideas in mind for our third date," He smiled again.
"Care to share them with me?" I asked.
"No," He laughed.
"What? Why?" I groaned.
"Because I want you to be surprised when you see what we're doing," He answered.
"Ugh. Fine," I grumbled. He laughed.
"Don't worry. You'll love what I have in store for next Saturday," He assured me. A small smile graced my lips.
"I'm sure I will," I softly said.
"For now, let's just focus on tonight," He replied. I nodded.
We arrived at a drive-in theater and a broad smile formed on my face. Drive-in theaters have always been a dream of mine to attend because there was something magical about just being able to sit in your car and watch a movie. It seemed much more intimate than just sitting in a normal theater because you kind of get that alone time you want with that special someone, although the same could be said about watching movies at home.
"How did you know that I liked drive-in theaters?" I asked. He chuckled softly with a smile on his face.
"Mischa told me," He answered. A confused look passed on my face, but was replaced by a smile.
"Pretty clever that you would use your own child to find these things out," I giggled. He chuckled again.
"Well she was pretty psyched to help her poor father figure out where to take her beautiful teacher next," He responded.
"That's very sweet of her to do, but anywhere you would've taken would've been just as special," I explained.
"It's nice to hear that, but I can't just take you to just anywhere. I have to take you to some very special places that you'll love for sure and will continue to remember fondly," He told me. My heart fluttered at what he said and my cheeks heated up. This man was so sweet and so attentive that I couldn't believe that he was real for a second. August Flores was a literal gift from God and I appreciated him so much despite knowing him for just a few days.
When we arrived at the drive-in, August paid for both of our tickets, which were to see the movie The Nun, and parked in a spot that was good for viewing the movie and getting the best sound quality as well.
"So what made you choose this movie?" I inquired. August smiled as he leaned back in his seat.
"Now that is a world trade secret," He joked. I giggled softly with a smile.
"Asking Mischa about my favorite movie genre isn't exactly a 'world trade secret', August," I responded.
"And here I thought you wouldn't figure it out," He sighed shaking his head, "Next time I'll have to be sneakier."
"You don't always have to use Mischa, August. You can just ask me yourself," I smiled.
"That's true, but having Mischa be my little agent is much more fun because at least then I'll be able to take you on seven more spontaneous dates that'll leave you speechless," He explained. It was sweet that he put this much effort into planning dates with Mischa's help. It was really cute to see them be able to have a relationship like this where they can help each other out no matter what.
Their close relationship with each other kind of made me envious of them because it's something that I have never experienced in my life before, and I don't think I ever will. Sometimes I wish my father and I had that same relationship, but that's just a childish dream that set sail a long time ago.
August, noticing my sudden thoughtful mood, placed his large hand on top of mine gently. I looked at him.
"Are you okay, Emily?" He asked worriedly. I began to feel guilty for dampening the mood with my sudden silence. It wasn't my intention to suddenly have him worrying about me in the first place when tonight was supposed to be such a good night where we both just enjoyed the movie together.
"I'm fine. Don't worry about me," I assured him with a convincing smile. By the look on his face, I could tell that he didn't believe me, but he didn't press the issue further.
"Alright," He nodded.
"It would be funny to see you get scared during this movie because maybe then we could break a certain stereotype," I joked changing the subject. August scoffed with a small smile.
"Oh really?" He cocked an eyebrow, "Care to place a wager on that?"
"Oh wow. Turning who gets scared first into a bet. Who knew you were so competitive," I teased.
"Well when you challenged me and my ability to not scare easily, I just had to make it a small bet between us," He answered. I giggled softly.
"Oh really? Then what are the terms of this bet?" I asked smiling.
"Hm....how about the loser gives the winner a kiss," He answered.
"A kiss? Huh?" I inquired.
"Yep," He nodded.
"And where do I place this kiss?" I smirked. He seemed to catch on to the flirtatious meaning behind the words I spoke and his eyes turned dark with desire.
"I could think of a few places where you could place it, but for the sake of keeping it PG, I'll settle for the lips," He replied.
"Your lips, huh?" I asked. He nodded with a soft smile.
"Okay," I told him, "Even if there wasn't a bet in my place, I'd still kiss you."
"Oh really?" He cocked an eyebrow.
"Mhm," I smiled. He licked his lips, then made a gesture for me to come closer. I giggled softly and leaned in towards him. My lips pressed softly against his. He kissed me back so sweetly and so tenderly that it left me wanting more. Little moments like this with him make my heart swell more and more every single second. Little moments like this make me happy that I even had the chance to meet him in the first place.
"The movie is starting," I murmured against his lips as he continued to kiss me. He ignored my statement and continued to kiss me, which I had no complaints about whatsoever even as he cupped my face. God damn this man could kiss.
After the movie, we headed over to a Waffle House a few minutes away from here, which I was grateful for because I had been wanting Waffle House all day. It was as if he could read my mind.
"You read my mind," I smiled as he pulled into a parking space. He chuckled softly with a smile.
"Well I had been wanting Waffle House for a little while now, but I'm glad that we were both wanting the same thing," He explained, "Great minds think alike."
"They really do," I smiled again. He got out the car and walked around to open my door for me. I thanked him and he closed the door behind me. He took my hand into his and lead me to the door of the small restaurant. Just as we were about to head inside, I saw a face that I did not want to see at all. It was the face of my ex-boyfriend, Jaylen Robinson.
