Chapter Twenty

“Why the hell is it that every single time I bring some cute ass shoes with me, you hoes wear them?!” Casper exclaimed to her friends. Currently, we were FaceTiming as she got ready to go out with her friends while I was getting ready for a date with August. Casper wanted to talk to me and I agreed because I wanted to hear all about her trip to France.

“Start buying ugly ass shoes then and maybe they won’t be worn!” Toni exclaimed.

“Shut the hell up! Bitches always taking and wearing my shit, but won’t buy their own shit,” Casper muttered.

“I know good and doggone well that you aren’t complaint about folks wearing your stuff,” I remarked.

“Yes I am,” She answered.

“Need I remind you that you stole my cardigan when I left for Greece?” I asked.

“Okay? We’re sisters,” She responded.

“Girl, this is karma for stealing from me,” I told her.

“Whatever,” Casper rolled her eyes, “As for these BITCHES in this house, I’m whooping their asses! Shoes were five hundred dollars and they just wearing them.”

“Five hundred dollars?” My eyes bugged out of my head. It’s no surprise that Casper has expensive tastes, but goddamn. Five hundred dollars for some heels.

“Let me take this shit off my feet,” Toni said walking into the room.

“Oh now you take them off? What changed?” Casper asked.

“The fact that I heard the price. I ain’t paying to replace these shoes,” Toni told her.

“Nah. Go ahead and wear them,” Casper sarcastically said.

“Hell nah. I’m not replacing these. They belong with their true and rightful owner,” Toni responded.

“See? She was proud to wear them and everything, but as soon as she heard the price, she changed up,” Casper shook her head.

“Casper, ain’t nobody about to replace some five hundred dollar shoes if they break,” I replied.

“Had I known that the price of the shoes would prevent folks from wearing my stuff, then I would’ve done it a long time ago,” She remarked.

“That didn’t stop you before with me and Harmony,” I said.

“It’s different. We’re sisters,” She replied.

“Whatever,” I rolled my eyes.

“Anyways, mom’s birthday is next weekend. What do you want to do for it? Harmony suggested that we do a girls’ day with all eight of us girls and then we rent out this really nice restaurant that Nicolas is going to pay for and invite everybody she knows plus family for a birthday dinner,” She explained.

“I like Harmony’s idea. Don’t tell her that though because you know that she’ll get a big head about it,” She rolled her eyes.

“Of crosse she will,” I chuckled.

“Alright. I’ll tell Harmony that we’re going with her idea. I’ve got her birthday present here in Greece and I’ll bring it back with me,” She informed.

“Okay. Well I gotta pick up those shoes she wanted from Michael Kors later,” I added.

“The lilac, suede pumps?” She inquired.

“That’s the one,” I answered.

“Ooh. Those were so cute,” She gushed.

“What did you get her?” I asked.

“That Chanel bag she’s been eyeing,” She replied.

“How the hell did you afford that?” I questioned.

“That French man I told you guys about. He’s rich, rich,” She grinned.

“Damn. Okay,” I nodded.

“Mhm. I told him what was going on and he gave me the money. Even said that he would flowers to her for her birthday,” She replied.

“Whoa. What the hell, Casper? Are you marrying this man?” I inquired.

“Not yet, but I need to because don’t no man just buy flowers for just any woman’s momma,” She answered.

“No he does not,” I agreed.

“He wants me to date him or whatever, but I asked him how that would be possible. He said that he can come and visit any time so we can go on a date,” She explained.

“So you gonna go through with it?” I asked.

“Of course I am. As fine as he is, I’m not passing that up,” She replied.

“Good because he seems like a good man,” I said.

“We’ll see after a couple of dates. I’m not going to rush into the whole label thing because that’s where shit goes south,” She responded.

“I get it,” I nodded.

“Plus after what happened with that last asshole, I’m not trying to have a repeat,” She said.

“Don’t bring him up. You’re just gonna make me go find him and stomp the shit out of him,” I muttered.

“You can do it now. He tried to talk me last week when I saw him at the mall,” She replied.

“Oh word? Let me go find his ass,” I said. She laughed.

“Have you found anything to wear for your date yet?” She asked.

“Yes I have. Look,” I answered, pulling out a cute, pink shirt dress with a corset like waist and a pair of clear, block high heels.

“Ooh. That is so cute. Make sure you wear those cute thigh high boots you almost never wear,” She told me.

“Don’t worry. I will,” I smiled.

“You’re going to make that man have a heart attack when he sees you,” She said.

“That’s the point,” I winked. She laughed.

“So you going to give it up to him tonight or are you going to continue to be a prude?” She questioned.

“Oh ha ha,” I rolled my eyes. She laughed again.

“What? You are being prude compared to the Emily I know,” She said.

“For your information, I don’t even have sex until like the fifth or sixth month arc. Plus it’s only been three months since we met,” I explained.

“Three months? Wow. I couldn’t last that long,” She murmured.

“We know,” I replied.

“Oh shut up. My relationships turn out good in the end,” She waved me off.

“The one with that pastor’s son didn’t last all that good,” I reminded.

“Oh God. He was such a goddamn prude that it wasn’t even funny,” She rolled her eyesight, “Didn’t want to give head or receive head, didn’t want to do anything but missionary, moaned like a dying walrus, kissed like a-”

“OKAY! I think that’s enough for my ears,” I cut her off.

“Be glad that you’d didn’t have to deal with him. He was such an ass and so much more yet he wanted someone with experience,” She rolled her eyes.

“I’m glad that I didn’t. I would’ve kicked him to the curb as soon as he kept doing missionary,” I replied.

“I should’ve kicked him to the curb,” She muttered.

“Mhm, but that’s just a reminder that not every pastor’s child is a freak. They can be very conservative,” I replied.

“Yes they can,” She nodded, “Well, Oliver wasn’t.”

“Oliver?” I squinted my eyes in confusion.

“He was the one who was always bringing me and mom flowers. He also bought us food one time and he was aspiring to be a tattoo artist, even though his dad didn’t want him to,” She explained.

“Ohhh! Oliver. Now I remember. He was so sweet,” I smiled.

“Yes he was. Crazy, but sweet,” She agreed.

“You got that crazy part right,” I nodded.

“What time is your boo coming to pick you up?” She asked.

“Around seven,” I answered.

“Geez. That early?” She questioned.

“For your information, nobody likes to wait until ten o’clock at night to go on a date somewhere,” I replied.

“And for your information, nobody picks someone up that early,” She countered, mockingly.

“Then there’s something wrong with the men you date because my dates pick me up early,” I said.

“Hm. Maybe you’re right,” She nodded.

“I know,” I smirked.

“Wait a minute. What does he even do?” She questioned.

“He owns a publishing company. It was passed down to him by his father,” I responded.

“He does?” She asked.

“Yeah,” I answered.

“Whoa. That’s impressive. I’m surprised that you haven’t met his crazy ass father who wants to split you two apart,” She said.

“Casper. As much as we both love K-dramas, life is not like one,” I responded.

“It should be for me. I need my own Lee Dong Wook,” She said.

“He’s old enough to be your father,” I replied.

“I have no problems with calling a man daddy,” She told me.

“And this is where I hang up,” I murmured. She cackled at her own silliness, but I shook my head.

“Girl, you know it’s true,” She giggled.

“Whatever-” I stopped mid sentence when I noticed that August was calling me.

“Okay, Casper. I really have to go,” I informed.

“What? Why?” She asked.

“Because August is calling and he might be telling me that he’s downstairs. Okay. Love you. Bye and be safe,” I quickly replied, hanging up. My finger tapped the accept icon quickly and soon I was met with his handsome face.

“Hey. Emily, I’m outside your door,” He informed.

“Okay. I’ll let you in,” I replied. The call ended and I slipped on my slides before heading down stairs. I unlocked the door only to be met with a large bouquet of red chrysanthemums. It was so beautiful and vibrantly red. August’s head popped out from behind the bouquet and he smiled at me.

“These are beautiful, August,” I beamed.

“I knew you would like them,” He grinned.

“And if I didn’t?” I questioned.

“I’d probably give them to my mother,” He answered.

“Really?” I asked.

“Really really,” He responded. I giggled softly and let him into the house.

“Whoa. Is that what you’re wearing on our date?” He asked, looking at my silk robe. He licked his lips as he looked me and up down.

“No, sir, I am not,” I replied.

“Damn,” He hissed. That made me giggle.

“Let me go get ready and I’ll be down in a minute,” I smiled.

“Mind if I watch?” He asked.

“Yes I do, horn dog,” I giggled. He chuckled softly and kissed my cheek.

“I’ll be waiting down here. Take all the time you need,” He told me.

“Okay,” I smiled. I kissed his cheek and headed upstairs to my bedroom to get ready.

After getting ready, I headed downstairs and August’s eyes were instantly on me. He stood to his feet and walked towards me.

“You look beautiful, Emily,” He kissed my hand. My heart warmed at the compliment and the kiss he put

“Thank you,” I smiled.

“Ready?” He asked.

“Ooh wait. Let me go put those flowers in some water,” I answered, picking up the bouquet of chrysanthemums. I walked to the kitchen and grabbed a vase from under the island.

“You’re about turn my entire house into a greenhouse,” I teased.

“I guess I’ve been over doing it with the flowers,” He chuckled, leaning onto the counter.

“A little, but I love them,” I smiled.

“I’ll scale back on the flowers a little,” He told me.

“Thank you,” I said.

“No problem. Plus I wouldn’t want to overcrowd your home with them,” He replied.

“A greenhouse would be nice, but not inside my house,” I joked. He laughed softly.

“Speaking of greenhouses, maybe you’d like to come see mine one of these days,” He suggested.

“Is that a euphemism or are you serious?” I asked.

“Seems like somebody else has to calm down,” He replied.

“I’m sorry. My mind is in the gutter right now,” I giggled.

“It’s okay, but I’m actually serious,” He said.

“How about I come over next weekend? I’ll be free that day,” I responded.

“Can’t. Mischa has her first game that day,” He informed.

“Really? I hope it goes well for her,” I said.

“Oh it will. She’s been doing great with soccer,” He beamed.

“She has? She hasn’t told me a thing,” I mumbled.

“I’m surprised about that,” He looked at me.

“Me too, but she’ll tell me within her own time anyway,” I smiled.

“I’m glad that you’re very patient with not just her, but all of your students,” He remarked.

“I have to have patience to be a teacher,” I said.

“Can’t refute that,” He agreed.

“Anyways, back on topic to the greenhouse,” I said.

“Right. How about the weekend after next?” He asked.

“That works fine for me. Plus I get to visit your home for the first time,” I answered.

“I’m looking forward to it, Em,” He kissed my lips. Our lips engaged in a passionate kiss that lit a fire within me. This man’s lips are so soft and they’re so addicting too. If only I wasn’t holding off on sex with him, because I would pounce him within seconds. That reservation be damned.

After a few moments, he pecked my lips tenderly and pulled away, leaving me in a daze.

“Ready?” He asked, smiling.

“As I’ll ever be,” I answered coming back to my senses.
