Chapter Three

It was seven in the morning on a Wednesday and I was not very happy to even be here today. Why? Because it was early release for both middle and elementary school students which meant that I would have to stay practically all day to have meetings with my students' parents about their grades and other junk. I hated when we had these because they were super annoying and stupid at the same time. This was mostly because some of the parents would waltz into my room and start yelling at me about their child's damn grades like it was my fault or something. Hell no. I am not responsible for your child's grades, they are. I don't need them walking into my room acting a damn fool when I haven't done anything at all. I swear some of these parents make me want to just scream or something. As for the rest of the parents, I can have an actual intelligent conversation with them about their grades, what they need to do to pull it up, and if I recommend if their child needs a tutor. Those were the type of parents I enjoyed having a meeting with because they were respectful, they did not yell at me like a damn fool, and they knew that their child needed to do better.

"Emily!" Caroline called to me in a sing-song voice. I turned to look at her.

"Yes?" I looked at her.

"How many conferences do you have?" She queried.

"Umm...at least eight for today. Why?" I asked.

"Because I was wondering if you'd like to go out for lunch afterwards. I have at least six conferences already," She answered.

"That sounds good. Where do you want to eat?" I queried.

"Johnny Rockets. I really have a hankering for some good milkshakes and diner food," She answered. I smiled and chuckled.

"Alright. We can go to Johnny Rockets. I haven't been there in months," I said.

"Consider this a date because we haven't been on one in three months," She tells me.

"Who's fault is that?" I asked.

"Yours because you never take me anywhere," She sniffled, "I just feel like you don't care about me anymore."

"I'm sorry, Sweetheart. I'll take you out on a date next Saturday," I murmured.

"Why not this Saturday?" She questioned.

"Because Harmony is having a birthday party for Baylee and she wanted me to bake the cake and help her set up," I explained.

"Oh," She nods.

"I'll even take you to that bar downtown that just opened up," I told her.

"Hey. That sounds like such a good plan," She smiled.

"Thank you," I smiled back.

"Oh crap! I have to head back to my classroom, but I'll see you later," She tells me.

"You too," I responded. I decided to head back to my classroom as well.

Later on that day, I was sitting in my classroom all alone while waiting on my fourth or fifth parent to come for our conference. Suddenly, a woman with long chestnut brown hair, chocolate brown eyes, and the body of a supermodel struts into my classroom with the most expensive clothes I have ever seen in my entire life. The woman was absolutely stunning and I could tell that she turned heads wherever she went.

"Good afternoon. You must be, Miss King," She greeted as she walked towards my desk. She stopped in front of it and outstretched her hand. I stood up and shook it.

"Yes, ma'am. I am," I nodded.

"I am Victoria Beauregard. Mischa's mother," She informed me with a small smile.

"Ah yes. It's so nice to meet you," I said.

"I emailed you last night to schedule a meeting so we could discuss her grades for Language Arts," She tells me.

"Oh. Well shall we get started?" I asked.

"Please," She replied.

"One second please," I said. She simply nods and her eyes start to roam around the classroom. I pulled up Mischa's grades on my computer. When it popped up, I turned the computer around so I could show her.

"Mischa's current grade in the classroom is an 89 due to the fact that she turned in some missing assignments a few weeks ago," I explained to her.

"Oh alright. I see that her test and quiz grades are not looking so good for this class," She said.

"I have noticed that and I-"

"Sorry I'm late. Traffic was just a mess," August's voice filled the room as he walked in. I felt my heart flutter a bit from just from hearing his voice.

"It's quite alright, Mr. Flores. Please have a seat," I tell him. He nods and comes to sit down right next to Mischa's mother.

"As Miss Beauregard was telling me, Mischa's test and quiz grades are not looking too great right now and I have noticed this myself. I suggest that Mischa come in for tutorial in the morning or afternoon, which ever is fine with you either one of you, so that way I can see what she's having a problem with and help her," I explained. August looked at Victoria for a moment as if to say 'what do you want to do'.

"That's an excellent idea. She can come in for both the morning and the afternoon for tutoring. My ex-husband can drop her off in the morning and I can come pick her in the afternoon," Mrs. Beauregard said.

"How is the morning session?" He asked.

"It's from 7:15 to 8:20," I answered.

"And the one for the afternoon?" Mrs. Beauregard queried.

"Since I have bus duty in the afternoon, it will be from 3:30 to 4," I said.

"Alright. That's all I needed to know," Mrs. Beauregard said. I stood up and shook her hand.

"Thank you for meeting with me, Ms. King," She said.

"You're welcome. It was a pleasure meeting you too," I said as I walked around my desk to walk her out the door.

"Mischa talks fondly about you all the time to me and her father," She informed me.

"Thank you so much," I smiled.

"Well I hope to see you again on better terms, Ms. King," She said.

"You too," I replied. She walked out of the room and when I turned around, I noticed that August was still there.

"I thought you left with your ex-wife," I said.

"Actually I hung back to tell you something," He informed me.

"What do you have to tell me?" I questioned. I could feel my heart pounding in my chest and butterflies started to flutter in my stomach. He cleared his throat before speaking.

"I...umm...wanted to ask you...I wanted to thank you for all that you have done with helping Mischa," He explained.

"I'm just doing my job as her teacher," I tell him.

"Well I appreciate it and I hope that maybe sometime, when you're not busy, that I can properly thank you for all that you've done," He said.

"Are you asking me out, Mr. Flores?" I asked with a small smile. My heart fluttered a bit.

"I guess I am," He smiled.

"Well I'll definitely take you up on your offer," I said.

"How does this Friday sound?" He queried.

"That sounds lovely," I answered.

"Great. May I please have your number?" He asked.

"Sure," I nodded. We both exchanged numbers quickly. After we finished doing that, he took my hand into his and brought it up to his lips. I felt tingles on my skin from the feeling of his soft lips against it.

"May I please know your name before I go?" He asked.

"It's Emily," I smiled softly.

"Beautiful name for such a beautiful woman," He said.

"Thank you, Mr. Flores," I replied.

"Call me August," He smiled at me.

"August," I murmured. His smile became broader.

"See you soon, Emily," He said.

"You too," I replied. He walked out of my classroom and I squealed softly to myself before doing a little dance. I can't believe that I have a date with him this Friday. I am so excited. Caroline won't believe this when I tell her.
