Chapter 1

✱Emma’s POV✱

I stood in front of the hell hole called ‘college’, wondering how I could kill my boss without getting into trouble. Why you ask? Well, let’s rewind my life to 72 hours ago and you’ll know why.

72 hours ago.......
I looked up from my laptop to see Mike barge into my room.

“Oh sure Mike, do come in.” I said sarcastically.

“Don’t you dare act smart with me Emma. I am your boss and I expect you to not forget that” Mike yelled.

I was surprised at his behavior, he doesn’t behave like this unless....

" What’s wrong Mike?” I asked gently. ” Did you and Pam fight again?”

He sighed and sat on my bed. I waited. He didn’t utter a word, so I decided to give him his time.

Now, for those who are wondering who Mike and Pam are, let me explain. Pam, short for Pamela, is Mike’s girlfriend for 3 years now. They both fight a lot, but it is evident in their eyes that they love each other beyond limits. As for Mike , he is my boss, a very good friend of mine and was my legal guardian, until I turned 18 because the first thing I did on turning 18 was getting rid of him as my legal guardian. Mike Wood, short for Michael Wood, had been my legal guardian since-

“I don’t know” Mike interrupted my thoughts.

“Uh..what?” I asked, confused.

“The reason for our fight, Emma, I don’t know” he sighed.“Nowadays it just seems like we don’t need a reason to fight. We get into a fight and say things we both don’t mean. I am afraid that soon, both of us will give up on our relationship and the other won’t be able to do anything about it.”

“Do you love her?” I asked.

" Yes, more than anyone in this world.” He answered immediately.

“Does she love you?” I questioned.

“Yes, I know she does.” He said slightly confused and unsure of where this was going.

“Then that is all that matters Mike, because when you love someone you must have the will to fight against the entire world, to be able to live with that person forever and no matter what happens you must not lose hope, because under any circumstances, it is the only thing that can keep you together.”
He didn’t say anything and just looked at me and by that look I knew that he understood what I said.

“Anyways, what brings my boss to my apartment instead of just ordering me to come to his office?” I asked.

He raised an eyebrow and asked, ” If I did order you to come to my office, would you do it?”

“Hmm.. Probably not”

“Exactly. Now coming to answer your question, I have a new mission for you”
This caught my attention. If you’re wondering what he means by ‘mission’, then let me explain. I have been working at the International Detective Organization, from when I was 12 and have completed more than 700 missions without failing even one of them and in almost all of them my 2 best friends had accompanied me.

" What do we have to do this time?” I asked, a little, who am I kidding, extremely excited.

" Well at the start, you are going alone. But after a few days I will send even the rest of the idiots.” He said.

" Hey, we aren’t idiots. We’re smart” I defended.

He snorted.“You’re a bunch of idiots”
“We’re smart.”
“You’re a bunch of idiots”
“We’re smart.”
" You’re a bunch of idiots”
“We’re sma- we’re a bunch of idiots.” I admitted. “But, you love us”

“Now, that is true.”

“Ok. So what do I have to do this time?”

“You need to go to college”
I started laughing.

“Oh god! I think there’s something wrong with my ears, because I thought I heard you say that I need to go to college.” I said after I was done laughing.

“Well I did say that.” He said carefully.

“What!!!” I screamed.

“Emma, calm down and please listen to me. Think about it, you’re 4 months away from turning 19. You don’t have a social life. You are supposed to be in your Sophomore year in college. Also studying is not the sole purpose I am sending you there.”

" Firstly, I do have a social life, more than half of the agency loves me and secondly, what is the other reason?” I inquired.

“One of the students in the University of Fine Arts -the college I am sending you to - is a major drug dealer, I need you to find out who it is and arrest him.”

When he said this, I considered it and said
" Perhaps, it won’t hurt...”
“Good” he said happily “Pack up quickly, you are leaving in an hour.”
“Where will I be living then?” I asked, puzzled.
“There is a house near the campus which your parents left for you. I have already gotten renovated and furnished as per your taste. All you need to do is move your stuff into it. Here, these are the keys.” He said tossing me a bunch of keys.

" I expect you to leave in an hour or two and get settled over the weekend because college starts in three days, on Monday.”

“I won’t even bother screaming.” I mumbled.

But I know he heard me because he smirked and said “That’s what I expected. I will leave you to pack now. I will be calling you once in a while. Enjoy your time in college and try not get into too much of trouble.”

It was my turn to smirk now. He just laughed and turned to leave. When he reached the door, he called out my name without turning around.
“Yeah?” I responded.
“Thank you” He said over his shoulder.
" You’re welcome.” I said with a smile on my face.

*End of flashback*

So here I am 3 days later, wondering what I had gotten myself into. Anyone got any ideas on how to kill your boss without getting caught?

Well, contact me if you do have any ideas.

Stop being dramatic Emma.

Over the weekend, I had moved into the house added everything to it to make the house into the perfect home. I had also set up the guest rooms for the idiots I call my friends. I had loved the house as soon as I saw it.

Coming back to the topic in hand, I was debating whether to go in or take my car and drive away from this hell hole as fast as possible.

Come on Emma. You have faced missions worse than this. Stop overacting and go in.
Stupid subconscious.

“Screw it.” I muttered and went in.
I walked through the corridors, ignoring the stares I was receiving, in search for the reception. When I reached there, the receptionist asked me my name and handed me my schedule. Just as I turned around, someone bumped into me, spilling ice cold liquid all over me. I stood frozen in place with my mouth ajar.

“Jesus- can you fucking watch where you’re going?” I heard a deep voice say and I looked up, not much, just slightly, considering I’m actually quite tall.

His cold grey eyes were emotionless as he glared at me.

“What did you just say?” I glared back at him.

“Are you deaf? I said- could you maybe watch where you’re going” He repeated slowly as though I were a five year old kid.

“First of all, I’m not deaf, but if I was deaf then saying it slower wouldn’t help me understand what you said, you dumbass. And second of all, you’re right... I’m so sorry you spilt your drink all over me” I replied sarcastically.

“Well, you walked into me...” He said, a little taken back by my response. He probably expected me to squeal a sorry and run away.

“Technically, I wasn’t even walking. Let me explain what walking is, it’s when you keep one step in front of another in order to move.” I responded.

God, he is such an asshole.

“Can you just shut up and keep walking.” He said angrily.

"Start walking. Let me remind you again, I wasn’t walking. Also, I would love to not see your face anymore but you’re in my way, so move.” I said and gestured him to move out of my way. When he didn’t, I sighed and pushed my way past him, probably earning a harsher glare from him- if that’s even possible- and started walking away.

"What a crazy bitch” I heard him mumble under his breath. I let out an emotionless laugh and spun on my heels, marching back over to him.

Before he could react to me coming back in front of him- may God bless my quick reflexes for that- I grabbed his half empty bottle of Gatorade out of his hand, lifted it over his head and poured the rest of the bottle on him. His expression, as I expected, was priceless.

"Never call a girl a crazy,” I glared into his eyes as he opened them, glaring back at me. “Or she might just teach you the definition of it.” I gave him one last sarcastic smile before turning around and walking away.

That, ladies and gentlemen, is how you make an exit.
