"He hasn't moved or said a word in the last twenty four hours. He's refused to eat anything either. He won't talk,he won't sleep--" Doctor Edson explained to a very shaky Meredith Price. Huge dark eye bags lay beneath her tear stained eyes, evidence that she had barely gotten any sleep through the night. "Mrs. Price,I'm afraid that sooner or later he would have to see a psychologist." He finished.
Meredith let out a loud shakey breath, shutting her eyes to allow the doctors words sink in. After a few seconds, she nodded and then sniffed.
"Can I see him, doc?" She asked slowly.
"Of course. Rose will show you to his room." He gestured to one of the nurses who walked briskly towards them. Meredith heard him say some words to her and then the nurse turned to face her,a sympathetic look on her face.
"Please come with me." She motioned and then turned to walk away. Meredith followed slowly, letting the nurse lead the way.
Even in her expensive Chanel fur coat, she looked disheveled. Her eyes were devoid of light and lacked sleep.
They walked for a short moment before they stopped in front of a white door. The nurse,Rose, paused for a few seconds before she pushed the door open and walked in.
"Ashton." Unlike before, she had managed to add some life in her voice. "Your mothers here." She announced, her gaze focused on the figure who sat in front of the window at the other end of the room but as expected,he didn't move,he didn't turn. He sat there just as he was twenty for hours ago. His gaze focused on whatever was outside the window.
"Ashton?" Meredith choked back a sob as she walked towards him. He flinched a little but that was it. "Ash?" She called again when she was standing in front of him but he looked right through her. His jaw was tense, his eyes glossy.
"Ash,i know you're hurting." She started slowly, tears filling her eyes. She couldn't take it. She couldn't bear to see him like this. So.....broken.
"Ashton, look at me." Her voice broke but his face remained the same, his eyes looking right through her. "Tell me how to make you feel better,Ash. T-tell me how to make you feel better. Don't shut me out." She sobbed.
"Mrs. Price-" The nurse started but her words were immediately cut off.
"Bring her back."
Silence filled the room for a few seconds.
And then Meredith turned to the boy who sat in front of her,his blue eyes stared right at her this time, filled with so much emotion....filled with so much pain. She let a soft gasp escape her lips.
"Ashton--" She started.
"Bring her back, mum." Tears filled his eyes. And for a split second,a glint of hope passed through his eyes.
"Ashton-"She called softly, feeling her eyes get watery.
"One more time, mum." His voice broke. "I need to see her one more time. It hurts. It hurts so much, mum. It hurts so much--" Meredith's hand quickly went around his neck and she cried into his shirt. She knew she was supposed to be stronger,to be doing a better job at comforting him. But she couldn't handle it.
"Ashton,I'm so sorry." She sobbed. "I'm so sorry Ash,I'm so so sorry." She ran her hand over his back in circular motion and she could feel him shake beneath her.
He buried his head in her chest.
And he cried.
But when she finally pulled away, his mask was back on. He looked across the room as though she wasn't there. His fingers dug into the armrest till his knuckles turned white.
"Ash?" Meredith chocked back a sob but just like before,he'd shut everything out.
"Mrs. Price,I think you should come back another time." The nurse finally spoke. This time,Meredith nodded eagerly. Seeing him this way was too much to bear.
"I love you,Ash." She placed a kiss on her index and middle finger and pressed her fingers against his forehead. "Ava misses you. We're waiting for you to come home." She told him. Her eyes lingered on his face for a few seconds before she made for the door.
Ashton sat still, listening to her footsteps retire and only when he heard the door close behind her did he allow himself breathe again.
There are times when I doubt she ever existed.
I want to believe she was only a figment of my imagination.
Because it would hurt less.
It would ease the pain I was feeling inside.
But everytime I feel the wind, every single time I watch the sunset, everytime it rains,I almost feel her presence.
I hear her laugh.
I see her face.
Every single time,I am reminded that she was real.
And I loved her with all of my heart.
I loved her Unconditionally.
