she was perfect. In fact, the epitome of perfection. Like every other child, she too has planned a perfect future ahead of her. she was a simple girl. Loved by the few friends she had and envied by her siblings.
But life is never that simple. It likes to test people. It pushes them to their limits.
Soon enough, this 'test of life' came knocking at her door and gone was the life she had dreamed for herself.
'Lucy' is a book inspired by true incidents taken place in the life of a woman that I was privileged enough to meet. Her life made me reflect of the things I've taken granted in life and I would love to share it with you too.
Hope you enjoy walking in her shoe through this novel.
They say that fate can be a rather unpredictable thing. But I have always blamed it on luck. Some of us just don’t have that good fortune factor and by the look of it, Hades himself wouldn’t want these beings in his kingdom.
But Lucy was never meant to be one of those ill-fortunate ones. She was a bright child. Hardworking, curious, loyal, faithful, name any good quality and you would find it perfectly etched into her. Her orthodox Christian family left no stone unturned in moulding her into the epitome of obedience and good behaviour.
Now, what could ever go wrong in Lucy’s life? She was just so perfect! But one could say her life Jinxed right from birth.
Lucy wasn’t the healthiest of the 7 Deluca siblings, she wasn’t favoured by any either. Lucy was too good for them. While there was undoubted jealousy brewing between the 6 siblings, Lucy sat oblivious to the misery that was soon to enter her life. After all, which sister would ever doubt her elder sister, her role model to be a green-eyed betrayer.
Lucy had gone through enough throughout her childhood to have realised that her family didn’t like her as she had been imagining all these years. At a very tender age of 12, Lucy was waiting to reach adulthood and be able to free herself from this torment. She would dream of a knight in shining armour- obviously not a real knight. Her knight was a simple god loving man.
Although Lucy's siblings left no effort in bullying her through out her childhood. Lucy couldn't even fathom the though of hating them. She always believed in the virtue of forgiveness. Isn't that what the bible taught? forgive seventy times seven. So she forgave them and she loved them- both their good and their bad.
Lucy had found her peace and comfort in god. She had found her guidance in those Sunday classes that taught her to be kind and selfless. But in the process of teaching the young child about god and his endless love, they had forgotten to warn her about the evils that prowl this earth- some in the for of men suited up as their beloveds knight in shining armour.
If only she had been warned, if she had been alerted about the secrets that the world outside held. Maybe she wouldn't have faced the wrath of this world.
But then, isn't that how life is? It's foreign and at times cruel. Lucy could have never been ready for whatever waited in the world outside. She sure had seen poverty as a child, but there were greater evils awaiting her and there was no one to warn her.
