Chapter 5

Mia's P.O.V

My mom promised me that the day I will get up on time without my alarm blaring out loud and her calling out my name is the day she will take me out and let me buy anything I want.

Sounds amazing, right? All I have to do is wake up on time and boom! I get whatever I want.

It sounds easy, but we are talking about me right here. I, Mia Evelyn Jones, who can sleep for fourteen hours straight and more, if nobody bothers to wake me up.

I love to sleep, but my love for it is always getting me in trouble. Speaking of trouble, I woke up at 7:05 am, exactly five minutes ago and my first class starts at 7:40 am. Aaron is picking me up at 7:20, that is ten minutes from now. My mom is shouting at me from downstairs to hurry up, and I am here with a comb stuck in my hair and trying to find comfortable and simple clothes to wear but can’t find any because of the way I set up my closet two days back.

Actually set up would be a wrong word. It’s more like ’the way I dumped my clothes in the closet.”

Ugh. I should’ve arranged all my clothes neatly. Waking up late with hair looking like a bird’s nest and not finding clothes is not less than any nightmare.

I gave up on finding my clothes and grabbed whatever in the closest I could find. Luckily, it was a pair of black shorts and a white top with a cute butterfly picture on it. Something comfortable and appropriate for college. I quickly changed into them.

Before you ask, yeah I took a shower although you can’t really call it that because it lasted for like two minutes.

I was successful in untangling some knots in my hair and tied it into a messy bun so it wouldn’t look that bad.

I grabbed my phone and my bag, rushing downstairs. I saw a plate of bread covered with Nutella placed on the dining table. My face instantly lit up at the sight of it and my stomach grumbled the same time but my smile faded the moment I saw my mom standing near the table glaring, and shooting daggers at me.

I gulped and walked towards her, giving my best ‘I am sorry’ look so I’ll be saved from all the yelling.

“Sometimes, I really wonder how you are eighteen years old.” Mom said, shaking her head at me.

I didn’t know how to react. I just gave her a big-toothed smile and looked at my Nuttela sandwich on the table. I was about to sit and eat it but the loud honking stopped me. Damn it Aaron is already here. I mean, he is on time but I haven’t even had my breakfast yet.

I looked at my plate, the yummy sandwich waiting to be devoured by me.

I quickly grabbed the sandwich in my hand and shouted goodbye before heading out.

I got in the car, quickly putting on the seat belt, and started eating my breakfast.

“Ahem,” I heard Aaron clearing his throat so I looked at him. He was looking at me, specifically at the sandwich I’m holding. I raised my one eyebrow as a way of asking him ‘what?’

He shifted his gaze from my sandwich and looked at me straight in the eyes. “Normally, when people see each other or are in their car, the first thing they do is to greet, not stuff their mouth … without offering.” Aaron said.

“Oops, sorry. Good morning, idiot.” I said after swallowing the piece of bread in my mouth.

“Uh-huh, yeah, good morning. Didn’t you hear the last part?” He asked, frowning.

What did he say at last –

Oh yeah something like without offering.

I saw him looking at my food again and I glared at him.

“Wait. This is not about wishing good morning anymore. It’s about not offering you the sandwich that you want to eat so badly that you can’t take your eyes off of it, isn’t it?” I said looking at him.

“So you finally figured it out.” He sighed. “And you still didn’t offer, so I am just snatching it from you.” The moment those words left from his mouth my eyes went wide and before I could protest and save it, my nutella sandwich was snatched by him and the whole thing was in his mouth.

“That thing you ate was ’my’ breakfast.” I said narrowing my eyes at him and hitting his chest.

“Too bad. It’s in my stomach now.” He said, patting his stomach and laughed, looking at my face.

“You are so mean.” I said glaring at him.

“Hey, I am anything but mean.” He said and started driving the car. I just looked at him and scoffed.

“Food stealer.” I murmured slowly under my breath.

“Did you say something?” Aaron asked me and I shook my head.

I know I am overreacting a bit but its food. On top of that, it was Nutella.

I don’t know why but I found this moment amusing in a way. I mean, I always wanted a friend like this. Someone who is open, fun-loving, understanding, and bit of trouble too.

I don’t understand the girls who keep on complaining about their guy best friends. I mean, having a guy as the best friend is the best thing you could ever have. Yeah, a girl best friend is definitely needed, there’s no denying to that, but having a guy best friend is like the best thing ever.

“Still thinking about the sandwich?” he asked, making me snap out of my thoughts.

“Nope, I am actually thinking of the ways I can make you pay in return for eating my delicious breakfast.” I said, chuckling.

“Look who is being all mean now.” He groaned and I rolled my eyes at him. “Shut up and drive faster or we will be late.”

Our bickering was stopped as One direction songs started playing on the radio. I didn’t know he liked them too until he started singing them on top of his voice.

This is how we spent the rest of the ride, singing at the top of our lungs.

We didn’t even get the time to say goodbye to each other when we reached college as the bell for the first period rang the moment we got out of the car. Sadly, we had different classes today.

As soon as we heard the ringing, we sprinted to our classes without wasting a minute.

I was so embarrassed by the looks I got from the people in my first period. I just entered the class breathing heavily because of the full speed running I did to get in class.

I didn’t look at anyone and just went ahead to sit on the seat saved by Ash.

Thank god she was with me in this class. At least I won’t be alone.

“Why are you late?” She whispered, coming close to me because the teacher already started teaching.

“I’ll tell you later or the teacher will kick us out of the class,” I whispered back to her and she mouthed okay.

All the classes went pretty well. In the cafeteria, I explained to Ashley why I was late for the class and she started laughing at me.

Right now, I am in my last class. Well, it’s actually the second to the last class but I had the next period off as the professor didn’t come today.

It was history and I was engrossed, listening to the lesson which Mr. Ryder was teaching.

I decided to pay full attention in today’s class so I won’t need to study at home but my plans of paying attention were ruined by a crumpled paper ball that hit my head, distracting me.

I looked around to see where it came from and my eyes met with Daniel’s brown ones.

He was looking at me and mouthed to read the ball.

I looked at him with a confused expression. The boy who never talked to me much though we hang out together and who always gives me cold glares is throwing paper ball at me.

I opened the paper ball and read what he wrote.

He wanted to meet me after this period near the parking area.

Although he used a question mark as if he is asking if I want to meet him or not, but it felt like he was more of ordering me.

I just gave him a small nod and turned my attention back towards our professor.

I didn’t overthink about why he wanted to meet me and talk. I’ll find it out in the next five minutes anyway.

I was standing near the entrance of the parking lot waiting for Daniel as our class just ended.

I thought he was pranking me or something because he didn’t show up for five minutes.

I was about to leave when I heard my name being called out. Turning around, I see Daniel sprinting in my direction.

He was wearing a Black T-shirt and jeans. The shirt fitted him so perfectly that you could see his fit body structure through it. Now I see why every girl in this college swoons over him. And I on the other hand? No. I agree that he looks really hot but he looks to musel-ly , not my type.

“Hey, I am sorry for coming late. I got caught up in something.” He said, running his hands through his hair.

“Hey. It’s fine,” I said with a smile.

“So, why did you want to meet me?” I asked, raising my eyebrows.

“I- I’m sorry” He said, scratching his neck.

“Sorry for what?” I gave him a confused look.

“For being such a jerk. I’m sorry, I was behaving like an ass to you since the first day. It’s just that I don’t get along with new people easily but you’re really different.” He said, looking into my eyes.

“Different?” I asked him, chuckling, and raised my one eyebrow.

“Different as in, different in an amazing way.” He said, nervously.

He looked so nervous and funny at the same time because of his scared expression. It took everything in me to control myself so that I won’t laugh on his face, but in the end, I burst out laughing at him.

“Why are you laughing?” He asked with a shocked expression.

“You look so funny and nervous,” I said, controlling my laughter.

“Nervous, me? Not at all.” He said, smirking and putting his hands in his jeans pockets.

“Whatever helps you sleep at night,” I said, shaking my head at him and he laughed.

“Well, you did act like a jerk but it’s totally fine. I understand why you were like that so don’t worry we’re all good.” I said, giving him a big smile.

“Thank you, butterfly. I hope we can be friends from now on.”

“I’d love to be friends with you, Daniel. Wait, why would you call me butterfly?” I asked him wondering about the name he used to call me.

“Oh, it’s just because you look good in that top with a cute little butterfly on it.” He said and winked at me.

I couldn’t help but started grinning like a fool because of the compliment he gave me. I know it’s not something big but I was not used to people randomly complimenting me so …

Our conversation was interrupted as Aaron, Eva, Ash, and Bibs came towards us.

All of us spent the next half an hour talking in the parking area and then we left for our houses. Aaron dropped me home as I came with him today. I asked him to come inside but he refused, saying his mom was calling him for something important, but he will come next time.

I was sitting on my bed with my laptop in front of me. After remembering Aaron’s advice of giving time and space, I decided that I won’t ignore Mr. Artist any longer and I’ll just talk to him normally.

I logged into my Friends book account to see his messages after that day, but before I could open his chatbox something really weird caught my attention.

It was a new painting post from him and it was not any simple painting. It was a beautiful painting of a girl and a butterfly in her hand.

The thing that caught my attention was the butterfly, the butterfly in it was not any normal butterfly, it was the same butterfly I had on the top I was wearing today.

To make sure that I am not mistaken or imagining things, I went to the laundry room and picked up my top which was in the basket, and ran back to my room.

I was beyond stunned. The butterfly was completely similar to the one I had on my top. Each and every detail was the same.

I was just looking at the picture in shock with only one word in my mind.
