Prologue
I entered the room and I saw him staring right at me. His eyes were scanning me as if we can still sort this out. I looked at him with hate in my heart and disgust in my eyes. He was still looking at me, I looked away. I did not want to face him right now. This is not the time to give him a piece of my mind. Before we could continue this expression game, I felt two hands on my shoulder. I turned around to see my best friend looking at me helplessly, like thanks, just what I needed to see. She helped me walk towards him because Thanks to my grandmother’s 100 years old wedding outfit I could barely see the floor. She helped me settle next to him. I made sure not to look at him.
Imam(Muslim Priest) started saying all the prayers about marriage. Before I could take it all in, I heard the Imam ask me,
“Noor-ul-Lain Siddique do you accept Essa Ahmed as your lawful married husband?
I felt the ground beneath me disappear, for these few seconds I thought my heart stopped beating, I started telling myself that this is a dream until my mother touched my shoulder bringing me back to reality. I looked up at her and she nodded.
I then said, “I do”
Imam Asked the same question two more times and I still said, “ I do.”
When the Imam asked him,
“Essa Ahmed do you accept Noor-ul-Lain Siddique as your lawful married wife?”
There was a long silence. I was hopeful he would man up and say..but before I could finish processing my thoughts I heard him say,
“I do” “I do” “I do.”
I looked right at him- shocked. This was his last chance to get us out of this mess and yet here we are stuck together as married Husband and wife.
Great, Mrs. Noor-ul-Lain Essa Ahmed.
