Chapter 1

Avery’s POV

Ughhhhhhh

Mondays are just the worst.

I hate working with all my life. I mean, the job is great, just getting up isn’t.

I checked the time, 7:16. Oh well, gotta get up.

I went to the bathroom and took a shower, brushed my teeth, and washed my face.

Then, I went to my joint closet, picked out my outfit.

I’m not the kind to be late for work, so I just go super early.

That’ll do. I thought. I grabbed my keys and went to my car. Btw, I share an apartment with my best friend, Selena.

I stopped by at Tim Horton’s, grabbed a large-sized coffee, two donuts, and was on my way to work.

I work at a nearby preschool, that a friend of mine had opened up just 2 months ago. I love kids. They always light up my day.

I walked right in and smiled at the receptionist.

“Well someone’s happy to be here!!” I teased Courtney.

“Says the only person that ever comes here early!” She snapped back.

We talked about how her date with a guy she met on Tinder went, when one of our other co-workers, Addison arrived.

“Hey, Addy!” Courtney and I said at the same time. We looked at each other and burst out laughing.

“What’s up girls?” She asked.

“Nothing. We’re just talking about how Courtney’s Tinder date went. That’s all.” I replied.

Addy looked surprised. “Why didn’t you tell me about it?” She immediately exclaimed.

Courtney just shrugged her shoulders. “Well, you would go full out. Like, “We need to go shopping ASAP!“′ Courtney said, imitating Addison.

Just then, the door jingled. No one’s supposed to be here yet, I thought.

I looked up. And I saw...

“Hey love,” Aiden said. He bent down and kissed Addison on the cheek.

Addison blushed a deep red. “I didn’t think you’d come. Why are you here anyway? Aren’t you suppose to be at work? ” Addison just bombarded him with questions.

“Well, I just thought that, errr, well, ummm, that you can take a day off of work and go on a date with me?” Aiden asked, shyly. He looked hopeful. Poor him. I thought.

Addison just stared at him in a blank expression. Then, she broke into a grin. “Of course you idiot! You could’ve just called and I would’ve agreed anyways!!!”

Relief washed over Aiden’s face. “I’m so glad you said yes. I was so worried!”

“Welp, now that that’s covered, get your booty outa here Addy!” Courtney said, excitedly.

“Oh! Right. I have to leave. Hopefully, Ronny can cover for me. Thanks a bunch, guys!” She exclaimed and then left with Aiden.

Courtney dramatically sighed, “Guess we needa give Veronica a call.” She said, before leaving for the phone.

I tidied up the place before the kids arrive, and Courtney came out from her office. Yep, she’s the owner of the preschool.

“Veronica is on her way. And ummm, guess we just wait for Rebecca and her mum to arrive.” She said and then slumped onto the couch.

“Well, guess I’ll just check my Insta,” I said, before reaching over for my phone. I checked all my stories before going through Explore. I looked through my dm’s and saw that Selena texted me, not long ago.

Selena and I have been close friends. We met during elementary when she was the new kid. Everyone made fun of her cause she had acne and pimples all over her face. Everyone except me of course. We made small talk and it led to us being friends and then becoming close friends, which led to us being best friends forever. We shared an apartment, friends, and even secrets. You know, girly stuff.

But, I’ve kept one secret from her. Which is my crush on her older brother, Bently. I mean, I’ve thought about telling her before, but, the risk is just too far great. Like, she could just use it against me and blackmail me. And, she could just tease me about it, which will make me embarrassed. Even though I’m a 23-year-old woman, I get embarrassed a lot. I don’t have that much confidence. But, its okay, cause, well, I don’t know.

I was so lost in my own thoughts, that I didn’t see Mrs. Bose come in with little Rebecca.

“Oh, hi. I’m sorry. We ran a little late this morning because someone didn’t want to wake up.” Mrs. Bose, or Esther, said while looking at Rebecca. Rebecca smiled in return.

“It’s alright. Hopefully, it wasn’t too, troublesome?” I asked, knowing Rebecca too much.

“Well, it wasn’t so bad. She was practically half asleep still, which made changing her clothes and diaper easier.” Esther replied, smiling at her 2-year-old daughter.

“That’s good news. Anyway, since you’re already running late, I’ll take Becky, so then you won’t be late for work.” I said as I took Rebecca from her arms.

Esther smacked her head. “Shi-oot I almost forgot! Thank you for reminding me. Gotta go now, byeeeeee!” She said while running to her car. Even though Esther is a mom, she can be very girly sometimes. Probably cause she’s only 25. Yep.

Well, here we go again. I said to myself.

Time skip... 12 Hours later ---------

I returned to the apartment and dropped my bag, kicked off my shoes and slumped on the couch next to Selena.

“How’s work?” She asked.

I replied with a groan. “Ashley decided to puke all over the play dinner table.”

Selena made a disgusted face. “That. is exactly why I work at an office.” She said.

She continued, “Also, don’t forget, we have the family and friends reunion this Saturday.”

I groaned, once again. “Don’t remind me. I’m already stressed, and it’s only Monday.”

Selena laughed, “Should’ve thought about the effects of the job before you took it.”

I playfully slapped her arm. “C’mon. We’re supposed to support each other, not the other way around.” I said, pouting.

“Whatever. I’m not saying you should quit. So, yeah.” Selena replied, getting up. “Well, I’m going to do some face timing with Stace.”

Selena was friends with Stacy, who is this adorable 4-year-old. They met during one of our morning runs.

I decided to watch a little T.V until I was too hungry to be able to pay attention to what was on.

Oh well, guess I’ll make dinner. I got up and checked the fridge. I heated up yesterday’s leftovers and decided to eat it.

After dinner, I washed the dishes and decided to check my Insta. I checked all of the stories and went on liking photos of my friends until I came across Bently’s. I studied the picture. It was of him and a couple of buddies of his. All were muscular and handsome, I have to admit. But Bently stood out from all of them. I liked it and moved on to “Explore.”

In no time at all, it was 8:30. I still had to take a shower, again, and do my nighttime skincare routine. Sighing, I got up. I decided to check up on Selena.

I tiptoed toward her room and slightly opened her door. She was sound asleep with her phone in her hands. Awww, look at that, I thought. I closed the door and went to my room. I took out my favorite nightgown, took my towel with me, and went to the bathroom.

I took out my favorite nightgown, took my towel with me, and went to the bathroom

After 30 minutes, I finally parted from my bathroom. I took longer than necessary because, as I said, I did my nighttime skin routine, which I do once every full moon. Not really.

I slipped into my black bra and panty set, then wore my nightgown. The color contrast was very visible, but who cares.

I locked all the doors, shut all the light, and finally slipped under my cover. Ahhh I thought, before drifting off to a dreamless sleep.
