“Where are we going Ren?” Oaklyn asked.

I had just picked her up after college and we were driving to an undisclosed destination.

“House-hunting,” I told her succinctly.

“Why would anyone go unless they need a house?”

“Don’t answer a question with a question.”

“How would you want me to answer kitten? I’m open to suggestions…” I trailed off suggestively.

Oaklynn rolled her lovely green eyes. “Do you have to pervert everything?”

“What can I say sweet cheeks? You bring out the perv in me,” I grinned.

“Don’t give me all the credit now,” she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

“I give honor where honor is due babe. I’m a just man,” I said with a wink.

She scoffed. “You don’t know the meaning of the word.”

“Are you saying that I’m not?”

“Let’s not divert from the real issue at hand-why are you looking for another apartment Kylo?”

“Hmm, I love it when you say my name…” I nuzzled her neck and inhaled her scent. “And I love the way you smell…”

“Stop, that tickles.” She giggled and squirmed in the seat. She was so warm and inviting, I just wanted to lose myself in her.

Cash cleared his throat, trying to get my attention. I’d almost forgotten that he was driving. “Let’s keep it PG while I’m in the car shall we?” he said.

“What?” I chuckled. “I was just appreciating my girlfriend’s assets-essence. I meant essence.”

“She does smell good,” Cash admitted. “But you can sniff each other all you want when you don’t have an audience.”

He got carried away-as usual. Sorry Cash,” Oaklynn apologized, giving me a look of reprimand.

“Don’t blame me. It’s not my fault you’re irresistible,” I drew lines on her palm with my index finger. “Besides, you were a very willing and active participant. So don’t act all innocent.” I said kissing her cheek.

“Why are we-you looking for a new place Kylo?”

We are looking for a new place because you never want to sleepover.”

She let out an exasperated breath. “I already told you why last night.”

“I bought a new bed babe-I even got one for you for the exact same reason. “

Oh no. Not this again.

“Still.” She set her jaw stubbornly.

“I don’t mind sleeping over at yours,” I pointed out, trying to remain calm.

“That’s different.”

“How so?” I questioned.

“You’re a guy. Guys don’t mind,” she rasped carelessly. “Besides, Tristan and I never-you know what.”

“That doesn’t mean he didn’t share your bed kitten. He must have slept over countless times.”

“He did. But we didn’t spend the night exchanging body fluids all over the apartment,” she said. “I bet you and Courtney did it on the kitchen counter didn’t you? Don’t even try and deny it.”

“Oaktree why is this even an issue..? Why are we even fighting about this?” I sighed in resignation, falling back against the headrest.

"It is an issue."

“Now you’re just reaching.”

“No. Please leave me out of this,” Cash held up a hand in protest. “I still need this gig. Sorry Lynn,” he smiled through the rearview. “But I get your point,” then he quickly added. “You too Kid Boss. You both have very valid arguments-which Lo is trying to resolve by getting another crib that has no-uhm-sexual ghosts.”

“Noo…” Oaklynn cooed as she turned to look at me. “You don’t have to do that..”

“Actually I do kitten because we’re at an impasse,” I stated the obvious.

“I’m not going to move in with you…” she made known.

“I know,” I said but that was going to change. Soon. “But we’re going to be spending a lot of time together and-where ever that will be, I want you to be comfortable.”

“But this is rather drastic…”

“Let’s think of it as a fresh start. For both of us,” I stroked her cheek. “A place where we can create new memories.”

“Then what happens when we brea-“

I placed a finger on her lips. “Don’t.”

“These things happen baby. Nothing lasts forever.”

“I know but I believe in us Oaklynn and I’d like it very much if we were on the same page.”

“I am but-“

“But nothing.”

An awry silence fell in the car. At this moment, I don’t know whether to be disappointed or upset. How is she not getting it? Did I not state my intentions clear enough? Was she just waiting for this relationship to self-destruct? Did she not feel the same way about me?

“Kylo… I’m sorry.” Sensing my distress Oaklynn crept onto my lap and help my face between her hands. “You’re right and I’m an idiot.”

My lips tilted slightly. “You’re right. You are.”

“You don’t have to move out. I’m being unreasonable,” she creased her forehead. “I’ll have to get used to it.”

“You don’t have to babe,” I removed her hand from my face and kissed it. “I’ve wanted to do this anyway so I might as well do it now.”

“Really?” She was still unsure.

“Really,” I said. “And since you will be practically living there, I’d like your opinion.”

“Now kiss me,” I demanded and Cash groaned. “Shut up Cash,” I said before her lips met mine again.

"I hate my job sometimes.."

“Shut up and drive Cash,” I laughed.

“I am tendering my resignation as of immediate effect,” he called out from the front.

“Denied.” Oaklynn and I replied in unison.

“I tried. I really tried,” Cash mumbled to himself.

“Let’s start in Westwood. The realtor is waiting for us.”

“Sure thing boss,’ he saluted and swung the car onto the highway.
