MelRose POV:

“Forgive me for grabbing you earlier, but I had to for your safety as well as Kai’s. I hope you don’t find it rude of me but I ended up following him after he left this morning. I was a bit surprised that he left without his bodyguard, but the moment I saw him come to this library. I knew there was nothing to worry about or at least that’s what I thought. Please get in...” Jin said in a calm matter as he opened the door for me.

Hesitant at first, I entered the cab and he went ahead and took a seat next to me. I was honestly a bit nervous since Jin comes across as being very mature. I wonder how old he is? Maybe I should have looked up every member of ExEx Idol, all I know is that Jin and Zack are part of Kai’s group. But I’m worried if Jin heard everything about what Kai and I were talking about. I hope he didn’t, the last thing I need is another celebrity bringing me down...

“Where to?”

The cab driver asked as he kept looking at Jin.

“Oh! Uhh...can you please take me to the airport...” I quickly responded as I made sure my face mask was on securely.

“So you’re leaving Korea today?”

Jin asked once we felt the car beginning to move. At first, I was surprised by how he knew I was leaving, but then again maybe Kai told him everything about me?

“Yeah...umm, Jin...I feel like I owe you an apology. You thought I was part of the staff but I wasn’t and-”

“There’s no need for you to apologize, it was an accident. I’m sure you were afraid of what was going on at the time. So I was taken aback when I saw you again, even more so when I saw your application to work with us. MelRose, right? That’s a beautiful name, but may I ask you something.”

He asked in a serious tone as he looked at me. The feeling of my cheeks flushed by his compliment but when I turned to look at him, I could see how tense he was looking at me...

“Thank you...my father picked it. And yeah, ask away, as long as it’s not personal-”

Suddenly the ringing of my phone going off caught my attention. Averting my eyes away from Jin, I looked down at my phone and saw that the ID was anonymous. But before I could even answer it, Jin immediately took the phone away from my hands and answered the call!

“Kai, you said what you needed to say to her. So don’t call her anymore, you gave her your answer. And I think it’s best if you stick with your word, I’m taking her to the airport right now so- Kai, you have no right to be angry. You should know the risks you were putting yourself into when you were out in public with her. Your lucky she had her face mask on. Listen, will talk more once I come back from dropping her off. There are a few things I need to discuss with you also. I’m hanging up...” I watched as Jin ended the call and handed me back my phone. I didn’t know what to say, other than to gripped my phone tightly as I looked out the window.

“Are you not gonna ask why Kai was calling you?” He asked with curiosity in his voice.

“I don’t think I should involve myself with him any more than I already have...” I answered truthfully as I went back to look at Jin who was still staring at me.

“That’s smart of you...but I’m not sure if that’s going to be possible.” He said in a troublesome tone.

“Why do you say that?” I responded in confusion, he then casually looked out the window and rested his head back.

“First, I owe you an apology, I overheard a bit of the conversation you had with Kai earlier. I was honestly surprised, and I think it’s for the best that we keep this between us. I would like to avoid any more issues with Kai, but I give you my word I won’t speak of this to anyone.” He said while combing his hair back with long slender fingers.

“So...you know everything now. I didn’t think things would turn out this way for me...I thought that maybe I could have a chance if I worked in the business. But I feel like a fool now for thinking that way-”

“Don’t talk down about yourself and don’t let Kai’s words affect you. I would like to think he’s doing this to keep you safe, but your a grown woman and have the right to do what you please. You know, most women who work in the company. All have a motive, whether it’s to gain publicity, to use one another selfishly, or to just get close to me along with Kai and Zack. So I never really met someone who was actually serious with their job, but when I heard you speak to Kai. I could tell how passionate you really are, even when I first met you on that night in America. You seemed loyal by your actions, you didn’t steal from us. Nor did you try to do anything scandalous, your very kind. And I think that’s why Kai doesn’t want to expose you to the ugly corrupt world we live in. But he has no right in rejecting your dream, so I’m asking you...will you be my makeup artist?”

My heart instantly sank to my stomach once I saw Jin stare back at me in a gentle smile. This was all too surreal for me to handle!

“I..I...wh..why me!? Are you serious!? I...I thought manager Sang didn’t recommend me-”

“He didn’t, but that was because you had no experience. But tell me, how can one gain experience if you don’t give them a chance? MelRose, you came to Korea because you believe in your dream. So I’m offering you this chance, but know that if you agree. That means you will be around Kai...”

After he said that, it all made sense to the comment he said earlier. If I do accept his offer, I’m going to have to face Kai a lot more. I’m sure he’ll be upset with me, but what Jin is said true. This is my life and this is my choice, so I don’t care what Kai has to say about it...

“Okay... I’ll be more than happy to be your makeup artist.”

I said to him with nervousness running through my body, and even though I was smiling. It was completely covered by my mask, but I’m sure the tears that were beginning to build up in my eyes were visible for Jin to see...

“I hope those are happy tears I’m seeing?”

He asked in a comforting tone as we both then felt the car beginning to come to a stop and that’s when I knew we finally arrived at the airport.

“Yes! Of course, they are, I don’t think you have any idea how happy I am right now. Thank you...thank you so much.”

As I continued to sob out my gratitude, I watched as Jin lightly patted my head. And with his other hand, he reached down for his pocket and took out his phone.

“I wish I could walk you in, but my manager just texted me where I’m at?” He said apologetically while looking at his phone.

“Oh! No, I could go by myself. It’s no trouble at all, you’ve already done so much for me! Besides, I don’t think it’s a bright idea to have you go out in public-”

“Pardon my intrusion, but...are you... Jin from ExEx Idol?”

I was then suddenly interrupted by the cab driver who was looking over at Jin! It’s crazy to think that even a cab driver could recognize him!

“I’m sorry, but I think you have me confused with someone else.”

Jin quickly said in a relaxed matter as he put his phone away. With the cab driver apologizing, I opened my side of the door and prepared to get off.

“I’ll give you a call tomorrow and for whatever reason, if Kai tries to contact you. Just ignore it...he could be very demanding, but that’s just how his persona is.”

He explained as he scooted himself closer towards where I was once sitting at...

“I see...I guess his personality is a bit controlling. But okay, I’ll be waiting for your call...Jin, thank you so much. I promise to give it my all.”

I said to him with determination as I closed the door, with the window still down I was only able to hear him say a few quick words before the cab driver started the vehicle...

“I’m actually relieved your not married...”

“Huh? Did you say something?” I questioned him as I adjusted my backpack. But all Jin did was smile at me.

“No, it’s nothing...have a safe flight back home. Goodbye for now, MelRose...I look forward to seeing you again.”

He said with such a sweet gentle voice as he raised the window back up. I then watched as the cab drove off, taking off my face mask I placed my palm against my cheek and felt how warm I was feeling! Am I blushing!? Even my heart was beating so quickly!

Taking a deep breath in, I started making my way inside the airport. I was fortunate enough that I didn’t have to wait long for my plane to arrive. Because once I boarded, I quickly texted my parents that I was coming back home before switching off my phone. The flight back felt a lot longer for some reason, but I was relieved that I was heading to America. I think it was because I missed home, being in Korea for only a few short days felt more like weeks with what I went through with Kai. I’m still trying to comprehend what happened, everything so far has been a rollercoaster of emotions. Good and bad, but if I’m going to work in Korea...

“I’m not gonna be living in America anymore...” I whispered to myself in sorrow. I’m extremely happy that I could work with makeup, and with Jin. But it’s all just bittersweet...

After a long flight, my tiredness finally kicks in and I’m just exhausted. Mentally and physically, I need a long shower along with a nap. So the moment the plane landed, I turned on my phone and contacted my father to come pick me up. Boarding off the plane, I felt how jet-lagged my body was. Luckily for me, I didn’t have to wait long since my dad left a few hours before I was landing. So as I waited outside, I felt that my phone was going off consistently?! Is someone calling me? But before I could check my phone, I noticed my Father’s car pulling up!

“Hey, Dad! It’s so good to be back...I’m so tired I could knock out.”

I said to him while opening the door to take a seat. Leaning my head back I closed my eyes and let out a heavy yawn.

“Welcome home, and yeah being in a plane for that long will tire you out. Unfortunately, I don’t think your sister is gonna let you rest.” He said in a chuckle as he began to drive us back home.

“Huh? Why is that?” I questioned in concern as I opened my eyes to look at him.

“You’ll see once we get there, for the last few days she’s been wanting to call you. But I’m not about to pay for an expensive phone bill, so I told her to wait until you come home.” He explained as he started to drive us back. My dad then began to ask how my trip went and I tried to be very vague about it.

There was no way in hell I could tell him what the company I was going to work at was for the company that runs ExEx Idol. Maybe I should wait to tell them until I get confirmation when Jin calls me. But I guess my Dad thought this interview was for me to do makeup in the Entertainment business. And although that’s somewhat true, I doubt he would have let me go if he knew I was going to do makeup on boy Idols. It’s strange though because as much I know that Kai and Jin are extremely famous. I just see them as regular people, not so much as Idols...

“Is that your sister that keeps texting you or is she calling?”

My Dad asked once he heard the vibration of my phone. Assuming it was my sister, I ignored my phone until I got home. If what my Dad said was true earlier, and my sister really needed to talk to me. I know it’s probably important since Sam never really contacts me unless she needs something.

“Home sweet home!”

I said to myself in an exhausted smile as I followed my Dad into the house. I was hoping to see Mom, but as my Dad mentioned before, she’s working late tonight. So I’ll just talk to her tomorrow-

“Melissa! We need to talk now!”

The sound of Sam’s voice echoed through the house as I saw her running down the hallway. I didn’t even have the chance to put my backpack down before Sam grabbed my arm and immediately began to pull us towards our room!

“Ouch! Can you not rip my arm off-”

“Shut up! Tell me right now...did you see Kai?!”

She asked in such high anger the moment she shut the door to our room. Yanking my arm away, I knew what she said was going to annoy me! And I wasn’t in the mood to deal with her. I’m tired and I just wanna rest. But Samantha is testing my patience...

“What are you talking about-”

“Don’t play dumb with me, after you left I checked the company you were applying at. At first, I thought it was just an entertainment business like Dad mentioned. But I come to find out that it’s the company that runs ExEx Idol! Did you purposely go to just work with my husband-”

“Oh my God! Sam, stop calling him your husband. You both aren’t married and he doesn’t even know you exist! And just for the record, I had no idea that the interview I went to do was for the company that works with ExEx Idol-”

“Bullshit! I don’t believe you! Tell me the truth right now! Did you see Kai!?”

She demanded me to answer as she marched herself closer to where I was standing. I obviously can’t tell her I did, I think it will only make her more upset...

“Sam, I don’t care if you believe me or not. And why are you so mad right now-”

“It’s because I don’t want you getting close to him! I don’t care if it is just for work, I don’t like it! You always talk about how you don’t care for K-pop Idols. Yet you go and apply to be a makeup artist to one of the most famous groups in the world! You such a liar, Mel-”

“Are you fucking serious right now?! You sound crazy! Is this the welcome I get from you, do you have any idea what I went through when I was in Korea!? You don’t! Because all you do is care about yourself, like always! Even now, you just care if I saw Kai or not. And even if I say no, you’re not gonna believe me! Grow up already, Sam! Your gonna have to accept it if I end up working at the same company as Kai, I don’t know why you’re so infatuated by him?! He’s just a guy who sings...I mean...yeah he’s good looking but that’s beside the point. His personality is too controlling-”

“HOW THE HELL DO YOU KNOW WHAT HIS PERSONALITY IS LIKE!? You did see him, didn’t you?! You’re a fucking bitch! I told you how much I like him, he’s the reason why I smile! But you don’t even care about him or even acknowledge how talented he is. All you care about is making money off him-”

“You know what...there’s no point talking to you. Your completely delusional and insane, you still act like a child. And there’s not a chance in hell that Kai will ever wanna be with a little girl like you who acts like this-”

The sound of a slap echoed through our room along with the stinging sensation that came across my cheek. I was so stunned by what happened that I froze and heard Samantha run out of the room before slamming the door behind her. Placing my palm against my burning cheek, I fell to the floor as I tried to hold in my tears. This was the first time Sam had ever slapped me, I’m supposed to be the big sister. But I feel like I failed on being the reliable sibling, my heart was aching as I suddenly felt my phone going off again. Being completely annoyed by it, I decided to finally answer it!

“WHAT!”

I shouted feeling completely angry and sad with myself as I annoyingly took off my backpack. But the second I heard his voice, I immediately started crying and I don’t know why. It’s just something about his voice that makes my heart beat painfully...

“Rose? Are you crying again?”

“Kai...”
