Ion Echelon was quite broken, with ‘quite’ not being the exact word. Rather, he was utterly broken and he dreamt of the woman who kept breaking his heart every time he closed his eyes. Desperate for help, he seeks Alexandra Mitt, a highly regarded dream catcher.
“I see dreams and pluck away all that is evil.”
Her lithe fingers played with his umber shade hair. There was a sudden strong gust of wind so his pearl grey eyes searched for her hazel green ones, checking to see if she was doing alright. She withdrew her hands from his hair and rubbed on the back of her arms. He removed his black coat and placed it on her shoulders. A small curve appeared on her mouth and she muttered a thank you.
The forest was comprised of mainly pine and fir trees which loomed over their path, creating tall shadows that caused him a bit of a shiver. They were walking on a rocky path so he offered his hand out to her, smiling as she took it. He noticed that her shoes were clearly made for walking while his were not. She laughed as he complained about the place she chose for this date. They have already been together for two years, but he felt like their relationship was still in its early stages because they were still as happy as they were before. He watched her take another step towards the next rock when he suddenly felt another person’s presence behind them. He turned his head but found that there was no one there.
He noticed that she was already ahead of him so he jogged a bit to be able to keep up with her pace. As soon as he reached her, he felt a strong force holding him back. He tried his best in order to be released but he couldn’t. He wriggled and moved but to no avail. He looked for her, to tell her that he loved her and that she needed to run (perhaps, to ask for help as well); but he soon stopped fighting to get out once he saw her.
Her usually pink lips were now a shade of blood red.
‘Was that the shade she was using?’ he asked himself.
In an instant, she was now in front of him, smiling deviously and he started to feel confused. Her hands touched his chest and to his surprise, he jerked at her touch. There was something very off, very wrong with her.
He could no longer remember if he was breathing because it felt like he was being deprived of oxygen.
“Thank you for these two years, Ion. It was enjoyable,” she said.
He felt a stab in his heart. A literal one. He did not know whether she used a knife or her hands. All he knew was that he was dying and he was already slipping away.
