Chapter 13

It was nearing 4:30 and I called Maddie into my office. She opened the door and walked in to stand in front of my desk. She was wringing her hands, giving away her nerves.

“Hi,” I grinned at her. She looked up from the floor and stared at me in surprise.

“Hi,” she smiled shyly.

“Are you ready for this weekend?” I asked and she looked confused. “I’m going out of town remember. So, I’ll need you to take all my work-related calls.”

“Oh yes, I remember. I’m ready,” she smiled confidently.

“If you need to clear anything with me, just shoot me a text and I’ll call you as soon as I can. My family doesn’t take kindly to me working when I visit,” I smirked.

“No worries. When are you leaving?”

“Now actually. Please would you come closer; I’d like to show you something on my screen before I shut down for the day.”

She came closer until she was standing right next to me. I could smell her perfume and a strand of her hair was fluttering against my cheek. Her cheeks were slightly flushed, and her lips were the perfect shade of pink.

“What am I looking at?” she frowned at the spreadsheet.

“Look closer,” I instructed. She squinted and leaned closer to the screen, incidentally closer to me as well. She looked adorable.

She turned her head to ask what she was supposed to be seeing and I took the opportunity. My lips were on hers before she could say anything. I moved my chair slightly back and pulled her onto my lap. She tried to protest but I didn’t allow her to pull away from the kiss. Once I released her lips, her cheeks were flushed, her lips slightly swollen and her eyes were wide in disbelief. She was about to say something, but I placed my finger on her lips before she could speak.

“I’m going to miss you,” I murmured.

She looked at me in surprise.

“You have to know how I feel about you,” I looked at her and she shook her head. I smiled. “I’m crazy about you.”

She just continued staring at me.

“Are you going to tell me how you feel about me?” I inquired curiously.

She shook her head. I threw my head back and laughed.

“Will you at least tell me if you like me or not?”

“Of course, I like you,” she rolled her eyes.

“That’s not enough but I’ll take it for now. I don’t want to be late.” I leaned in and gave her one last kiss before she scrambled out of my lap and back to her desk.

I switched off my computer and collected my belongings from desk and left. I had a long drive ahead of me and mum would be so angry if I weren’t home in time for dinner. I just hoped that this time, Connor would join us.

After saying goodbye to Maddie, I was walking towards the door and she called my name. I turned to look at her.

“I’ll miss you too,” she said shyly.

I grinned and winked at her, then left.
