Remedy My Soul

Lana spent the next week and a half sequestered in the bedroom where she had spent her teenage years. She hadn’t told her family why she had left Dylan, but they supported her in her decision. Her phone rang nearly non-stop, but she had ignored each of his calls, texts, and voicemails. Katie had found out about everything that had happened through Mark, but Lana hadn’t taken any of her calls either. The sun had just started to go down when her bedroom door opened, and Katie came in, closing the door behind her. She walked over and sat down next to her on the bed, and Lana started crying yet again.

“Lana, come on, you can’t keep doing this,” she said softly as she reached over and started rubbing her hand up and down her arm. “Mark talked to Dylan, he told me what happened. I agree that he’s a piece of shit for not telling you, but he’s totally destroyed without you.”

“Well, he totally destroyed my trust. I don’t care how he feels right now,” Lana replied, wiping her tears away with the back of her hand.

“I know, I get it,” Katie assured her. “Still though, you can’t lie in this bed forever. How about you get up, get a hot shower, and we’ll go out for drinks?”

“I’m not really in the mood,” Lana shook her head.

“I know you feel that way now, but I think that will change when you take that first sip of mojito and take a bite out of the world’s best taco,” Katie reasoned with a smirk. Lana couldn’t help but smile weakly. “Come on, let’s just get out of the house, and if it’s too much after an hour we can come back. Deal?”

“Fine, deal,” Lana agreed with a nod.

Lana grabbed a pair of jeans and a three-quarter sleeve top along with the necessary undergarments and headed down the hall to the bathroom. As depressed as she had been, she had to admit that the hot water from the shower felt good and was relaxing. Despite being in bed for the better part of the last week and a half, she still felt like she was exhausted. She hadn’t been eating much because her stomach was constantly in an unsettled state. She told herself she would just do this for Katie, get out for a couple of hours, and then come home and go back to bed.

She descended the stairs a half an hour later with just enough makeup on for her to be presentable. She grabbed her purse and said goodbye to her brother who was watching a movie before following Katie out the door. Katie drove as they made their way to a small lounge near the beach. They were able to snag a table by the window so they had an ocean view. After a couple of drinks, Lana felt like she could explain everything without bursting into tears. Once Lana had told her everything that happened, Katie reached across the small table and took Lana’s hands in hers. Lana’s eyes started to swell, and she took another sip of her drink, and then a deep breath to avoid the ugly cry face.

“Have you talked to him at all since that day?” Katie questioned as she gave her friend’s hands a gentle squeeze.

“No,” Lana shook her head. “My parents didn’t say anything to me about it, but I know he was at the house a couple of times to try to speak to me.”

“Well, I know you’re pissed at him, but deep down, don’t you want to at least hear him out?” Katie pried. Lana shrugged as her lip quivered. “Sweetie, no one is going to blame you if you do. I know what he did was really messed up, but I also know that the past year of your life has been your happiest. You’ve changed since you met him. You’re finally opening up and realizing your full potential as a woman and a professional. Before Dylan, you didn’t think you were worthy of anything good in life. He might have his not-so-fine moments, but the man is insanely in love with you. He calls Mark almost every day to see if we’ve seen you and know how you’re doing.”

“He does?” Lana nearly whispered as a small tear escaped from the corner of her eye. Katie nodded.

“Before you, the man only lived for his daughter. Now he not only lives for you, but I’m pretty sure he would die for you, too. I’m sure he feels like shit, and I doubt he would ever do anything so stupid again. If you still love him, and you think there’s even a small chance that you could forgive him, I think you need to consider giving him another chance,” Katie reasoned with her.

“I know,” Lana nodded. “Truthfully, I miss him,” she admitted as another tear slipped free. “I miss him so much it hurts,” she forced a weak smile. “I’m still really upset with him, but it doesn’t change the fact that I love him more than I’ve ever loved anyone before. Part of me is worried that he won’t forgive me for leaving the way I did. My god, Katie, you should have seen the look on his face when I gave him back my ring. I don’t think I’ve ever hurt anyone like that before,” Lana shared as a few more tears slipped out of her eyes.

“Lan, you know that all he cares about is putting the ring back on your finger,” Katie stated as though it should be obvious, and Lana couldn’t help but smile up at her. “Lana, the man loves you, like, really loves you. If you two get past this, you are going to be his wife. Sooner rather than later, if he has anything to say about it.”

Katie excused herself to the bathroom, leaving Lana with her thoughts for a few minutes. Once she came back, they ordered another round of margaritas and changed the conversation to the topic of Mark and Katie looking into the club business and considering opening clubs in San Diego and LA. About 20 minutes into the conversation, Katie cringed as she looked behind Lana.

“Okay, so don’t kill me. I just want you to know that I only did this because I love you and I want you to be happy,” Katie explained with a look of guilt as Lana stared at her in confusion.

Lana felt a presence next to her and looked up to see Dylan standing there. She didn’t even have time to be upset with her friend, as a wave of emotion washed over her. She stared at him in almost disbelief. He took a deep breath before squatting down next to her, taking one of her hands in his and reaching up with his other and gently cupping her cheek. She could tell he hadn’t slept well in days and his eyes were heavy and glassy. She looked over at Katie as she felt her eyes well up with unshed tears once again.

“Don’t be upset with her,” Dylan spoke softly, and she looked back at him. “I was the one that pushed for this. I needed to see you, and the only way that was going to happen was if I got you out of the house,” he gently squeezed her hand. “All I’m asking for is to sit and talk. There’s a lot that needs to be said, and if you hear me out, I think you’ll understand. I’m not denying the fact that I fucked up, but please just give me a chance to explain.”

Lana looked at him in silence for a moment before finally giving him a small nod. She looked over at Katie who assured her that she would take care of the bill and Lana could just pick up the tab next time. Dylan stood, and she allowed him to pull her into a standing position as well. He grabbed her clutch off of the table and handed it to her before placing his hand on the small of her back and leading her outside. He led her over to his car, opened the door and helped her in. As she got seated and he pushed her door closed, she caught a glimpse of him rubbing his eyes the way she had seen him do once or twice before when he was trying not to cry. Seeing how hurt he was tore her up inside, and tears that had been threatening to fall all night flowed freely down her face.

Dylan climbed into the driver’s seat and shut his door. When he realized Lana was nearly sobbing, his heart shattered into a million little pieces. He had promised to never hurt her, and now she seemed more broken than ever. He inhaled a deep, shaky breath and started the car, reaching his hand over and resting it on her leg as he pulled out of the parking lot and onto the street. He turned on the radio with the volume low to help break some of the tension in the car. No words were exchanged throughout the short drive to the La Jolla cove.

When they reached their destination, Dylan parked in one of the lots close to the beach and grabbed a blanket out of the back of his car before they started walking towards the ocean. They walked in silence, and as much as he wanted to reach out to her, he knew that one wrong move could push the evening in the wrong direction. He only had one chance, and if he screwed it up, he might never get her back. He had to settle with at least being with her and her agreeing to hear him out for the time being.

They found their spot on the beach and Dylan laid the blanket out for them to sit on. Lana slipped her shoes off and dug her toes in the sand, taking in a deep breath of the fresh air as the breeze cooled her warm cheeks. Dylan kicked his shoes off as well and sat back on the blanket with his feet on the ground and knees bent in front of him, waiting for Lana to be ready to join him. Once she sat down next to him and mirrored his position, they exchanged glances for a moment before he cleared his throat and started to talk.

“Back in my crazy years, I didn’t really have a lot of standards for the women I got involved with,” he started, and Lana stared back out at the waves. “I was usually pretty careful, so I had no idea until years later that I had gotten someone pregnant. She and I had hooked up a handful of times when we were trashed and when she dropped off the radar, I didn’t think anything of it. I didn’t even know the kid existed until four years later. She apparently died from some sort of liver disease, and at the end she was trying to make arrangements for her parents to adopt him. When they asked her about the father of the child, she gave them a few names, and I ended up being the lucky guy.

“By the time I had even gotten the request for paternity testing, she had passed. The courts gave me the option to see him and try to be involved. I met the case worker at a park where his grandparents were with him. They were playing with him on the jungle gym and he was smiling and laughing, and I could see the love they had for him in their eyes. Every time he laughed his eyes lit up and they smiled back at him. It took me about five seconds to see that he was happy and with good people, and I had no right to upset that. I told the case manager to send me the paperwork and tell me when to be in court so I could sign over my rights.”

“So, you never even spoke to him or his grandparents?” Lana questioned softly as she looked back over at him.

“Not to him” Dylan shook his head. “I spoke to his grandparents the day of the hearing after I signed over my rights, and they thanked me but they wanted to know why I didn’t want to be involved. I explained to them that I had been a product of many broken homes, and I could see that he was happy and in a good place and there was no reason to upset that. I mean, what was I supposed to tell the kid? “Hey, I’m your dad. I knocked up your mom when I was plastered out of my mind and possibly a little high, but now I want to be there for you.” That would have gone over really well,” Dylan scoffed. “If it would have been a different situation, and if the kid wasn’t in a good situation or was looking at foster care, I probably would have stepped up. He seemed really happy though, who was I to tear him away from all of that?” He asked rhetorically. Lana took a deep breath and rested her cheek on her knee as she hugged her legs to her and looked over at him. The anger he had seen in her eyes since she found the letter had started to melt away, and he knew he was getting somewhere.

“I know I should have told you this when we really started to get serious, but I have a long history of fucking things up and I didn’t want to ruin what we had. I kept telling myself that I was going to tell you soon, but soon never came and then we got to a point where I knew you would be really upset. I didn’t know how to tell you after so much time had passed. All I could think about was what would happen if I lost you, and now I basically have and it feels like I’m dying inside,” his voice cracked, and he looked away. Lana sighed as she sat up and moved closer to him. He turned and looked into her eyes as they both fought off tears.

“If you would have lost me completely, I wouldn’t be sitting here right now,” she spoke softly for the first time. He smiled weakly, resting his forehead against hers as a tear ran down his cheek.

“I could never put into words how sorry I am that I messed things up and being away from you has only made me love you more. I’m nothing without you, Lana. My whole world fell apart the day that you left. I’m pretty sure my daughter thinks I’ve completely gone off the rails,” he scoffed. “I had to take her to my parents’ place because I was on the edge of becoming non-functional and I didn’t think she could handle seeing me any worse off than what she already had.”

“Natalia’s a pretty resilient kid, she’ll be alright once she sees that you’re okay,” Lana reassured him softly.

“The only way I’ll ever be okay is if you can forgive me and give me another chance,” he said just above a whisper as he reached over and placed his hand over hers.

“She’ll be alright, because we are going to be alright,” she elaborated, and Dylan closed his eyes as he let out a sigh of relief. “I forgive you, Dylan. I’m still a little upset with you, but I can kind of see where you’re coming from. You’ve been more than understanding of me and my past, so who am I to pass judgement on yours,” she explained. He nodded before opening his eyes back up to look into hers once again. “I love you,” she added softly, and he broke into a grin.

“I love you too, mi amor,” Dylan pulled her into his arms, tangling his fingers in her hair as he held her close. She turned her face to his and he caught her lips in a slow, sensual kiss. He laid back on the blanket, pulling her with him as he continued to hold her securely, afraid that he was dreaming, and she was going to slowly slip away. She rested her head on his chest and he pressed his lips to the top of her head before nuzzling against her and breathing in the familiar scent of her shampoo. For the first time since she pulled out of their driveway, a sense of calm came over him and his world started to seem right once again.

“Where do we go from here?” Lana questioned softly as she brushed her fingers against the skin of his stomach.

“Emotionally, we work to get back what we had. Physically, we go wherever you want, Baby. We can go back home or get away for a little bit, just the two of us,” he replied, kissing the top of her head once again. “My parents are heading back up to our place with Nat tomorrow, they said they’d stay with her as long as I needed them to.”

“Where would we go?” She questioned, and he shrugged.

“Anywhere. As long as we’re together, it doesn’t matter to me. We can get in the car and just start driving for all I care.”

“That sounds kind of fun, actually,” Lana grinned and raised herself up to look at him. “I could go for a road trip to nowhere,” she let out a small laugh.

“So, let’s go. We’ll get a good night’s rest and then head out in the morning. We can just start driving east and go wherever the road takes us,” he smiled down at her.

“How long have you been down here?” Lana asked curiously.

“A few days,” he shrugged. “I’ve been staying at one of the hotels nearby. I didn’t want to be a burden to my parents or to Mark and Katie. I refused to go back home though until I at least had a chance to see you and explain what happened. You’re my everything, I couldn’t just walk away,” he stroked his thumb over her cheek again and she leaned in to kiss him slowly. She shivered slightly and he rubbed his hand up and down her arm. “Are you cold? Should we go?”

“It’s getting a little cool,” she admitted, though she didn’t necessarily want to move from their embrace.

“My hotel is only a few minutes away, but if you want me to take you back to your parents, I can do that too.”

“No, we need to be together right now,” Lana stated firmly, and he nodded.

Dylan stood and offered her his hand to pull her up which she gratefully accepted. He looked into her eyes and smiled as he quickly pulled her into his arms and kissed her lovingly. They exchanged smiles once more before they folded up the blanket and headed back for the car. He took her hand in his as they drove, and he held it up to his lips as he pressed a kiss to her knuckles. A few minutes later, they pulled up in front of the hotel and climbed out as Dylan handed his spare key to the valet who gave him a ticket. He kept her hand in his as they made their way to the room, and once inside they kicked off their shoes and sat down on the edge of the bed. They made a bit of small talk before Dylan excused himself to take a shower.

Lana turned the TV on, trying to distract herself from thoughts of joining him. She kept telling herself that they should take it slow and just enjoy being together, but she missed his touch. Her mind wandered to all of the ways that he had gotten to know her body, the way he worked her with his expertise nearly every time. She missed the closeness, the intimacy that they had shared. After a brief contemplation, she decided to go all in and jump feet first back into the relationship. She planned to marry this man, and if they couldn’t get past this and reconnect on every level, there were more issues with the relationship than either one of them realized.

She stepped into the bathroom and quietly stripped before stepping into the shower. The shower was quite large, being as though Dylan booked one of the suites, so it took him a moment after rinsing the soap from his face to realize that she had joined him. She gave him a shy smile as he opened his eyes, and he smiled back as he slipped his arms around her waist and pulled her under the water with him. She wrapped her arms around his neck as they shared a heated kiss.

“I missed this,” he whispered softly with a smile.

“Me too,” she whispered back before kissing him again.

Lana relaxed and enjoyed it as Dylan pampered her. Before taking her to bed, he took his time washing her hair and bathing her. The feeling of his hands all over her, getting reacquainted with her body brought back all of the memories of the times that they had shared together. When she thought about it, she wondered why she had fought letting him back in for so long. In his arms was right where she needed to be.

They soon found themselves tangled between the sheets. They took their time, cherishing every inch of each other’s bodies as they slowly made love. Dylan brought her up to the edge many times, backing off before she unraveled. When she finally reached euphoria, he soared with her, both of them crying out and grasping at each other’s skin until they each had nothing left to give. He kissed her lovingly as he grew soft inside of her, before moving to rest his weight on her with his head on her shoulder as they both drifted off to sleep.

The next morning Dylan packed his bags and they checked out of the hotel. They stopped for breakfast before they went back to Lana’s parents’ house and she packed her bags as well. She assured her parents that everything between her and Dylan had been worked out, and they were genuinely happy that the two of them had managed to find their way back to each other. Dylan loaded her bags into the back of his Range Rover as she said goodbye to her parents, and then they finally got on the road. They made no specific plans for where they were going, but knew they wanted to go east.

Dylan merged onto the I-8 heading towards Phoenix, taking Lana’s hand and giving it a squeeze as they shared a smile. He called Natalia as they drove, and she was ecstatic when she answered and was greeted by Lana’s voice. Once they had filled her in that they were taking a little road trip, but would be home in a week or so, they decided to go tech free for the rest of the trip. Lana turned off their cell phones and locked them in the glove box. They picked up road maps at a gas station just before they reached the Arizona/California border.

The next week was spent visiting random areas in Arizona and New Mexico. The weather was pretty fair, so they had picked up camping gear in their travels and booked campsites at different parks throughout the two states. They spent their days hiking or traveling to their next destination, and their nights looking up at the stars as they cuddled by the campfire and talked about anything and everything. They kept to their agreement of no cell phones, with the exception to checking in with Natalia a few times. Spending so much time together and off the grid brought them even closer than they had been before. The bond between them had strengthened, and they were both eagerly looking forward to whatever the future would bring.

After eight days of camping out and living the simple life, they decided to change things up and head for Las Vegas. They were able to get a suite last-minute at Caesar’s Palace, and after a good night’s sleep and a hot and heavy excursion in the shower, they went on a shopping spree for clothing that was more fitting to their destination. They ate at five-star restaurants, saw the best shows on the strip, tried their luck at the tables (some nights being more successful than others), and lived like royalty for the next few days.

On their last night in the city, they had an amazing dinner at the Eiffel Tower Restaurant at the Paris. They had a great view of the Bellagio fountains throughout their meal, but still stopped to watch them up close as they walked back towards their hotel. Lana stood against the railing and Dylan stood behind her with his arms firmly around her waist as they waited for the music and fountain to start. He watched her face light up as the show began and held her close as he leaned in to press his lips to her neck. He nuzzled against her cheek, lightly brushing his lips over her skin before whispering in her ear.

“Marry me,” he pressed his lips to her cheek. “Wear my ring, and say you’ll still marry me,” he added as she turned her head to look up at him with a smile.

“I can’t wait to marry you,” she whispered back, lovingly placing her left hand on his cheek before leaning in for a kiss.

He smiled into their kiss as he reached for her left hand with his and slipped his right hand into his pocket, producing the ring he had given her a few months ago. She grinned as a tear slipped from her eye while he carefully placed the ring back on her finger. She turned in his arms so she could wrap her arms around his neck, and he quickly pulled her back into him as they shared a passionate kiss. Their kisses intensified as the noise of the bustling strip faded away, and all they could see was each other. They had each had a few drinks, and Dylan paid no attention to the fact that he was now sporting a full erection, creating quite the bulge in the front of his pants. Lana pressed her hips into him as she leaned in close.

“I want you,” she whispered huskily into his ear. “I want you inside of me,” she added, causing him to twitch against her. He quickly scanned the area with his eyes, seeing a sign for a nightclub at one of the hotels across the street. It would be dark and loud, perfect for their intentions.

Dylan took her by the hand and quickly led her through the crowd of tourists. They crossed over at the first street crossing that they approached and headed for the main entrance of the hotel. Once inside, they followed the signs that hung from the ceiling to get to the night club, and the bouncer let them pass by the line quickly as Dylan slipped him a $100 bill. They made no attempt to stop at the bar as he looked around at their options. He noticed a dark hallway and headed straight for it. Once they reached it, it turned a corner to a longer hallway of doors. The first door he tried was unlocked, and on the other side of the door was a darkened office.

The music blasted loudly, there would be no way that anyone could hear them. He shut the door as they stepped inside, backing Lana against it as his lips consumed hers in a lustful kiss. She immediately started working at his belt buckle, meanwhile he yanked her satin panties over her hips. He pushed them down until they dropped, and she eagerly stepped out of them as she got his zipper open and his heavy cock sprang free. He lifted her up, their lips never separating as he carried her over to the large desk in the middle of the room. He propped her on the edge before clearing it with one swipe of the arm, then laid her back and pulled her to the edge.

He worked her dress up and lifted her legs before leaning down and diving his tongue into her sweet center. Lana cried out as he tongued her clit with the perfect pressure, not stopping until she came hard against his mouth and he took everything she gave him. He didn’t even give her time to recover before moving between her legs and thrusting into her. His fingers dug into her hips and he stilled as he tried to hold back from unraveling right away. Lana pulsed around him, still experiencing aftershocks of her orgasm and his cock twitched making her cry out again.

He sucked the tips of his index and middle fingers into his mouth, getting them nice and wet before he reached down and started rubbing at her clit. Her hips bucked and he started to move his hips slowly, penetrating her as deeply as he could. His chest rose and fell as he sucked in air, meanwhile trying to push her to the edge again. After a few more moments of slow, steady thrusts as he rubbed her, he felt her clenching around him in anticipation of another orgasm.

“I’m so close, baby. I want it rough,” she begged.

Dylan submitted to her demands, lifting her hips off of the desk as he slammed into her repeatedly. He held her in place as she came again and writhed all over the desk in pleasure. He thrusted with each pulse of his orgasm, filling her with his seed until it overflowed around his thick length. They slowly came down from their highs, and he pulled her into a sitting position as he kissed her passionately.

“I should re-propose more often,” he teased. She let out a small laugh as she tried to catch her breath.

“Not necessary,” she replied with a smirk. “Just give me a few drinks and I’ll be ready to go,” she joked back.

They shared a few more kisses as they caught their breaths before fixing their clothing. Dylan peeked his head out into the hallway to make sure the coast was clear before they headed back out into the club. They made their way through the crowd, up to the entrance of the lounge. After providing another generous tip, they were granted entrance and escorted to a small table in the back corner. They ordered a round of drinks to share as they sat and talked over the music. Dylan noticed Lana getting a few looks of interest from the men in the room, keeping a protective and possessive arm around her. He didn’t care if they looked, but he wanted them to understand that touching would not be permitted. The fact that he had what so many other men wanted was enough to have him ready to go again by the time they left. As soon as they stepped into their suite, he claimed her body once again.
