Epilogue: New Home
-Six Months Later-
Ariel smiled at her husband as he sat next to her at an outside table at their favorite café.
“You’re so beautiful.” He whispered as he touched her smooth cheek.
“You just can’t stop saying that, can you?” She asked with a laugh.
“You were beautiful before, love, and now you’re even more so.” He said as he leaned forward and kissed her soft lips.
She sighed as she kissed him back.
“Oh.” She said with a laugh.
He looked down at her stomach with a grin. “Kicking again?”
She smiled with a nod as she took his hand and placed it on her swollen stomach. He smiled when he felt their little one kick his hand.
“You make me so happy.” He said as he leaned forward and kissed her again.
She sighed as she kissed him back. He pulled away from her and smiled when he felt another kick.
“I’m just glad that my surgery hadn’t harmed our little one.” She said as he removed his hand from her stomach.
“You and me both. I mean, I love your new look, but that shot they had given you could have hurt the life you have inside you.” He said as he took her hand into his and kissed her knuckles.
“They said we were lucky.” She said as she laid her hand over her stomach to settle her restless one.
“I’m the one who’s lucky.” Luka said as he squeezed her hand.
Ariel lifted a bag up onto the table. Time to show him what she had asked him here for.
He eyed her. “What’s this?”
“Well, since Davis made The Sapphire Dreamer legally dead. I thought it was time for a new persona.”
He watched as she pulled out several dream catchers with Emeralds knotted into the middle and three more on the outside, forming a triangle. He laughed as he shook his head.
“Does that represent us?”
She smiled as she handed it to him. “Do you like it?”
“I do.” He said with a nod.
Sirens went off down the road, making Luka pivot towards the street.
Ariel sighed. “Go do your job, Lukas.”
Lukas turned back to her, an enormous grin on his face. “Hello, Sweetheart. You seriously do look amazing.” He said as he looked at her scar-less face.
“Thank you.” She said with a smile.
He went to his knees in front of her and placed his cheek against her stomach. “Hello, little one, this is your daddy speaking. Don’t hurt your mother while we’re gone.” He said, then kissed her stomach. She smiled as he stood and leaned forward to kiss her.
“Hurry, before your boss comes looking for you.”
Lukas laughed as he turned to leave.
“Wait, don’t forget.” She said as she held a dream catcher and a new mask out to him.
He looked at the new mask and shook his head. “I like my black mask.”
“That one is dead.” She reminded him as she shook the mask at him. “Besides, you like blue, remember.”
He laughed as he leaned down to kiss her again.
“And green isn’t my favorite color.” He said as he looked at the Emeralds in the dream catcher.
“It’s my birthstone.”
“Right.” He said with a nod. “I guess I can like it for you.”
She laughed as she gave him a shove. “Go save the world.”
He laughed as he slipped the mask on, then turned and headed down the street towards where they had heard the sirens. He stopped and turned to his beautiful wife.
“Do I have a new name to go with my new getup?”
She smiled. “What do you think?”
“The Emerald Dreamer.” He said as he held up the dream catcher.
“Actually, I was leaning towards The Emerald Weaver.”
“Oh, catchy.” He said with a grin. “I’ll see you later tonight.” He said with a wave, then was gone.
Ariel sighed as she stared at the spot her husband had been standing. It was a good thing no one was outside the café right now.
They have been working for Kaison for the past couple of months; after he had won the election. Before that, they had spent their time here, helping Kaison bring order back to his small country and putting away those who were destroying it.
Ariel sighed when she felt the baby kick again. “Your daddy will be back as soon as he takes care of the bad guys.” She said with a smile.
Ariel had found out she was pregnant around two months after she had had her plastic surgery to remove her scars. She looked even prettier now then she had before she was cut up. Or maybe she just sees herself through their eyes, now.
She sighed as she leaned back in the chair. When they had figured out when they had conceived, Lukas and Luka had argued over which one of them had gotten her pregnant.
Ariel smiled; she knows the truth. She knows exactly when it had happened.
It had happened when Lukas had made love to her, then let Luka take over, just as he had finished when Luka had pulled her legs over his shoulders and made such hard love to her. She shivered at the memory.
That was when they had conceived their child.
She gathered the dream catchers before anyone saw them and stashed them back into the bag. When the waitress came to her table, she ordered another cup of tea.
She wondered what was going on out there. The reporter side of her was eager to see, but the mother side of her knew she needed to stay here. Let her reporter take care of it.
Yep, she has her own reporter. Lukas had helped her open her own paper here, and it had taken off so quickly, she had needed to hire people to help.
The guy who takes the pictures was a young college student, who has a photographic talent, that no one she has ever seen compared to. And the young girl who reports for her; is one in a million.
Her phone rang, which made her jump, and she reached into her purse and pulled it out.
That’s odd; he never calls my phone.
“Captain.” She said as she answered the phone.
“Ariel. I need you all home.”
Ariel stared at the phone. The man had been happy they had found a place to live the way they wanted to live.
“We are home, Chandler.”
“You guys have been away, making another country better while you leave us here, where everything is falling apart.”
Ariel sighed. “I will have Luka call you when he gets off work.”
“You mean when Lukas gets off work. Does Luka ever do detective work anymore?”
She smiled. They had confessed everything to the captain; when they had agreed to stay here and help Kaison.
“He does. Both work for Kaison…”
“Ariel, you left some friends here to deal with this city on their own. Do you know how many have been let free…”
“Okay, captain, I get it. I will have the boys call you as soon as they get home.”
“How are you feeling?” He asked, shocking her.
“Actually, really good.” She said with a smile.
“We’ve missed you all. When you get home, you may want to tell your old boss everything. He has been freaking out, asking me if you’re happy…”
“Yeah, I get messages from him every other day. I think that bitch is driving him up the wall.”
“I think so, too. She is also making all the bad guys look good, and the detectives and officers look bad. We need our star reporter back.”
She laughed as she shook her head. “Stop trying to butter me up, Chandler. I told you I would have the guys call you, and that’s what I will do. Try not to get under the mayor’s skin before we get back.”
Davis snorted. “It’s not hard to get under that man’s skin…”
“Bye, Chandler.” She said, then hung up the phone with a sigh.
Now to convince the guys to go back to a place where The Sapphire Dreamer and The Emerald Weaver are not welcome.
