Chapter Eight: Lizzie Discovers Their Body

“What the hell happened?” Abe asked as he looked from the body on the floor to Ariel soothing Lizzie.

“Apparently, Lukas locks her away to protect her from herself and not from others.” Ariel said as she looked at the body on the floor.

“I see.” Abraham said as he walked over to them. “We need to get out of here. The men are gone for now, but they’ll be back.” He said as he held Luka’s clothes out to her.

“Come on, Lizzie, Hun, we need to get you dressed.” Ariel said as she ran her hand down Luka’s arm, still soothing the little girl inside him.

“I don’t deserve to be here. Luka should put me to sleep.”

“Lizzie.” Ariel said as she shook Luka’s shoulder.

Lizzie looked up at her with such a forlorn look in her eyes.

“You saved me. The man would more than likely have raped and killed me, making you watch, then killed you too. That’s how they work, sweetie. So, don’t feel bad on this one, okay? He wasn’t an innocent man.” Ariel said as she watched Lizzie wipe away her tears.

“Okay.” Lizzie said with a nod as she got to her feet and helped Ariel stand.

“Let’s find you a bathroom.” Ariel said as she led the girl over the dead man and out into the hall.

She found a bathroom, not far down the hall and handed Lizzie the clothes to put on.

Ariel stood outside the bathroom door as Lizzie attempted to get dressed.

“Condoning murder, now?” Abraham asked as he joined Ariel.

“No.” Ariel said as she looked up into his face. “I was serious. She saved me and protected us. She killed him in self-defense. And you saw her reaction. She didn’t like it.”

Abraham nodded. “But The Sapphire Dreamer does.”

She sighed. “What did you expect me to do? Let them kill Luka and me?”

He sighed. “No, I guess not.”

“We are in a crazy-ass war here, Abraham, and you need to figure out if you can turn your back on some things, or not.”

“I have a penis!” Lizzie screamed from inside the bathroom. “And it’s huge!”

“Oh, Lord.” Ariel said with a soft laugh. “Excuse me, I have a little girl to help, with her very manly body.”

Abraham nodded as she entered the bathroom. She has a point. They’re in a war that they can’t win; if they don’t take out some of the trash. He smiled as he shook his head. If six years ago, someone had told him he would be in cahoots with The Sapphire Dreamer, he’d have told them they were nuts.

“Don’t touch it, Lizzie.” Ariel said as she swatted the girl’s hand away from Luka’s member.

“But, it’s funny looking.” Lizzie said as she tried to touch it again.

Ariel grunted. “Stop and pull these on.” She said as she handed the girl the boxer briefs.

“Is this boy’s underwear?”

Ariel nodded. “Yes, it’s boy’s underwear.”

Lizzie stepped into the boxers, then pulled them up to her chest.

Ariel laughed as she pulled them down and settled them around Luka’s hips.

“I don’t like this body.” Lizzie said with a frown. “I wish I had yours.”

Ariel laughed as she shook her head. “Pull these on.” She said as she handed the girl Luka’s jeans.

Lizzie pulled the pants on and stared at the button at the top.

Ariel smiled as she zipped up the pants and fastened the button.

“Ariel.” Lizzie whispered as Ariel helped her into the t-shirt.

“Are you mad at me?” Lizzie asked as she watched Ariel’s face.

Ariel smiled at her. “No, Lizzie. I’m not mad at you. Shocked, but not mad.”

“You don’t like that you have to share Luka.” Lizzie said with a frown.

Ariel sighed. “Before we found out that The Sapphire Dreamer was Luka, Luka had to share me with him. I couldn’t turn him away now, just because I have to share him with two other personalities. That wouldn’t be fair. And besides. I love him too much.” She said with a smile as she took a step back from Luka’s body and smiled at the girl who resided inside. “And I love his warts too.”

Lizzie giggled as she hugged Ariel.

Ariel sighed as she hugged the girl. “Let’s get out of here.” She said as she opened the bathroom door.

“Took long enough.” Abraham said as he looked at them. “Let’s get out of here. I called the captain. They will be on the lookout for those men.”

“Good.” Ariel said with a nod.

“I don’t think you should go home. We should find a hotel or something for the night.”

“Sounds like a plan.” Ariel said with a nod.

“I’m tired.” Lizzie complained when they entered the hotel room they had rented in a friendly area of town.

“I know, sweetie.” Ariel said as she led Lizzie to the bedroom and opened the door. “You can sleep on the bed.”

“Okay.” Lizzie said with a yawn, on her way to bed.

Ariel watched as Lizzie’s head hit the pillow, and she snored. She laughed at the sweet sound. To hear that from this big man was just too adorable. She smiled as she left the room and closed the door behind her, then turned to look at Abraham.

“Poor kid.”

“Poor Luka.” Abraham said as he shook his head.

“I’m starving.” She said as she headed for the phone, ignoring Abraham’s words.

Yes, she feels terrible for Luka, for what he goes through. But now that she’s attached to his alters, she couldn’t imagine her life without any of them.

She ordered dinner for the three of them, then collapsed onto the couch. She sighed as she closed her eyes. Today has been such a crazy day.

Abraham watched as Ariel fell asleep and sighed. He moved to the couch and lifted her legs onto it. She sighed as she pulled herself up and settled more comfortably on the sofa.

“You’re one of a kind, Miss Lawson. Luka was lucky to have found you.” He said as he shook his head. “Literally.”

He laughed as he sat in a chair. The Sapphire Dreamer had found her tied up in a madman’s chair. He can’t believe what all has happened since that day all those months ago.

He would never have thought he would be a part of all of this and not be taking the man in. But he couldn’t arrest his partner, not for something he didn’t do himself. And it’s not like he can arrest Lukas.

A knock came to the door, and he got up and let the server in with their dinner. He gave the man a tip, then pushed the cart into the living area.

He let Ariel sleep and ate his dinner. Soon, she and Luka, Lukas, or Lizzie, will be awake, and they can plan what they will do to get their beautiful Hannah back.

Ariel came up off the couch so fast; she almost knocked over the cart of food.

“Luka.” She breathed as she got to her feet and ran towards the bedroom.

The door swung open, and Ariel stood frozen as she looked into the blue eyes of her boyfriend.

“Thank God.” Luka breathed as he took her into his arms and kissed her.

She sighed as she melted into him.

Abraham cleared his throat when Luka’s hand slid down her back and grabbed hold of her ass.

Luka pulled his head up and smiled into Ariel’s beautiful green eyes, then looked over at his partner.

“Abraham.” He said with a nod.

“Luka. Good to see you.” Abraham said with a smile.

“What happened?” Luka asked as he stood there, holding Ariel.

“Have a seat and eat, and we will tell you everything.” Abraham said as he gestured to the couch and food cart.

Luka led Ariel to the couch, then pulled the food down and set them on the coffee table in front of them. He lifted the lids, and the smell of steak invaded his nostrils. He looked at her, then pulled her to him and gave her a hard-passionate kiss. She groaned as she leaned into him.

Abraham cleared his throat again, getting their attention.

Luka chuckled as he turned from her and dug into his dinner. She had remembered how much he had wanted a steak.

As they ate, Ariel and Abraham told him what had happened while his alters were out. He shook his head when Ariel told him about little Lizzie.

“Such a temper for such a sweet kid.” Luka said as he sat back on the couch, stuffed.

“Look at how she was created.” Ariel said as she looked at Luka. “She was the one who kept you from feeling what that man did to you and forgetting almost everything that happened. She herself went through it for you, I guess.”

Luka frowned. “Poor kid. No wonder she’s stuck at that age.”

“I wonder if there’s a way to help her grow up.” Ariel thought as she tapped her chin.

“If there is, I know you will find it. You’re the best damn investigative reporter in the country.” Luka said with a smile.

She laughed. “I wouldn’t say, Country.”

“I would.” Luka said as he pulled her to him.

She sighed as she laid against him.

He laid his arm over her stomach as he looked at his partner. “So, do we have any plans to get to Hannah?” He asked as he watched his partner watch them.

“Was hoping we could come up with something…”

“What about Hannah?” Ariel asked as she stared at them.

Luka looked down at her. “Right. I forgot you weren’t in the room.” He said as he gave her a squeeze, then told her what the captain had come to his room to tell him.

She stared at him, then looked over at Abraham. “Really? We’re going to Abadaum?”

“Looks like it.” Abraham said with a nod.

“I’ll call Meranda later, see if she can give us any pointers.” Ariel said with a nod.

“Excellent idea.” Luka said as he gave her a squeeze.

“In the meantime, we need to figure out how we will see the body, with no one knowing about it.” Abraham said as he rubbed his forehead.

“I know someone who can come up with something.” Ariel said as she looked up at Luka.

Abraham looked at Luka at the same time.

Luka looked from his girlfriend to his partner and shook his head. “No way. Especially after what he had done to those two men…”

“I gave him permission, Luka. He wouldn’t have done it if I had said no.”

Luka sighed. “Besides, he and I haven’t come to an understanding yet.”

“Well, get to it, partner. Because I want to leave for Abadaum tomorrow night.” Abraham said as he relaxed in the chair and closed his eyes.

Luka looked down at Ariel. “It’s dangerous to trust Lukas.”

She shook her head. “Lukas is only dangerous if I’m in danger. He’s doing very well.”

Luka sighed. “I will see what I can do.”

“Yes?” He said as he looked into her eyes.

“There is so much about you and your alters that differs from anything I have read. Maybe you can be the ones to break the barrier.”

Luka sighed as he kissed her forehead. “Maybe.”
