33. Zeke

Ves knocks on the door of my parents’ house. Dad answers the door. He scowls when he sees me and turns his attention to Ves.

“Can I help you,” he asks.

“Yes, you can,” Ves answers. “I’m here to drop off Zeke per the request of his mate. He’ll be staying here for the foreseeable future.”

“The hell he is. He has his own home with that bi- mate of his.”

“How funny.” Ves places her hand on his shoulder. Her dominance moves with precision against him. “You think you have a choice in the matter. He is staying here. I need to speak with Kate. Bring her here.

My dad’s face is blank as he walk back into the house. I glance at Ves. She’s actually kind of scary. I can only feel glad none of that is being aimed at me. She turns back into the Ves that I’m familiar with when Kate comes to the door.

“Hello, little one,” Ves says, grabbing Kate’s face.

“I’m not little,” Kate says with a blush. She takes Ves’s hands from her face. Ves taps her chin as she zips around Kate.

“I don’t know. You look pretty tiny to me. How old are you?”

“I turn 16 next week.”

“So young.”

“I’m not young.” My eyes flicker between the two of them. I feel like should be somewhere else right now. “You’re just old.”

“My point exactly.” Ves pauses. “I’m Ves, nice to meet you.”

“I’m Kate.” Ves smiles at her.

“I know. My cousin sent me to bring your bother here.” That’s when Kate notices my existence.

“Zeke!” She pulls me into a hug. She steps back. “Is everything alright?”

“That’s what I wanted to talk to you about.” Ves looks to me. “Can I talk to your sister privately for a moment.”

“You can wait in my room.”

I enter the house. It feels like it has been forever since I been here. I step into Kate’s room. I sigh as I sit on her bed.

I don’t know how to feel about everything. For all I know, this could be an illusion casted by Amamethysta. If it is, it’s not too bad compared to what she has done to me before. I’m only doubting my sanity.

But what if this was real? It makes less sense because her family kept telling me my memories have been messed with. Does that mean I’m living in a world where my mate cares about me?

If she did, why did she let me go? She didn’t put up much of a fight when I made my request but... I groan and pull at my hair. I don’t know. I’m not thinking about it anymore. My brain hurts when I do.

Kate comes into the room crying. She pulls me into another hug. If this is fake, at least Kate is still Kate, and I can take comfort in that.

“Why does this shit happen after you were finally happy,” she cries. “I have half the mind to find the moon goddess and give her a earful for what she put you through.”

“I’m fine,” I tell her, trying to comfort her. After a while, she calms down and pulls from from my arms, sitting beside me.

“I told everyone what was going on. Your room as been turned into storage room. You can sleep in here while we wait for thing get sorted out.”

I sit at the dinner table with my family. I feel disappointed as I eat. I don’t know why but I feel like the food should taste better. Ellie sighs.

“I don’t know why you have to stay here,” she complains. “You have your own home you can sleep in within the territory.” I have a home here? My head starts hurting, and the next thing I know, I’m being shaken by Kate. She wipes blood from my face.

“Are you okay,” she asks, looking worried. What just happen?

“I’m fine,” I answer. She sighs in relief and glares at Ellie.

“Is going to happen ever time we say anything that involves his mate,” Dad asks.

“Yeah. That’s what I was told. We need to be very careful.”

I climb back into my seat and finish dinner. Afterward, I get ready to sleep.

“I’ll go get spare clothes for you tomorrow,” Kate says.

“Thanks,” I say. “You sure you don’t want to sleep on the bed?”

“I’m sure. You keep comfortable.”

“I don’t want to kick you out of your own bed.”

“It’s fine. I promise.”

I turn off the lights and climb into her bed. I close my eyes and fall asleep.

I carry plate of food into the living room. On the way there, I bump into couch and drop the plate on the floor, shattering it into pieces. I panic. I can’t believe I just broke the plate she bought.

“Zeke,” Amethyst says as she wraps her arm around me from behind. “I love you.” I blush and turn in her arms.

“I love you too,” I respond. “I’m sorry about the plate.” She grabs my hand.

“Mate, you are more important than anything we own. I don’t care about the plate. Make yourself a new plate of food. I’ll clean it.”

“No, I don’t want you to get hurt. I’ll do it.” She smiles at me.

“Let’s compromise. We’ll both clean it. Together.” I grab the broom and dustpan, and together, we clean up the shattered glass. Afterwards, we eat lunch.

I wake up. That was a weird dream. It didn’t feel like one. It felt more like a memory than anything. Why did I call my mate, Amethyst? Her name has always been Amamethysta.

I shake my head and get of bed. I wash up and put the clothes I wore yesterday. They’ll have to make do until I get more clothes.

This is the first time this morning that I’ve collapse on the ground because of my family trying to tell me things that never happened. The previous attempts ended with me coming to with blood running down my nose.

My head is killing me, and my whole body hurts. I wait for the pain to go away as I wipe the blood off of my face. Kate stares at our parents and Ellie.

“What is wrong with you guys,” Kate asks. “If I didn’t know any better, I’d think you guy were doing this on purpose.” Nobody says anything as she looks at them. Kate looks at them in confusion as she comes to a realization.“You are. Why?”

“Trust me, Kate. You wouldn’t be so protective of him if you knew what he really is,” Dad says. I look at him, curious to see where he goes with this. “He’s not the sweet innocent Omega he pretends to be.”

“What do you mean?”

“Why don’t you tell her, Zeke, about how you slept with our former Alpha and half the pack to get what you want.” My heart drops. Is he being serious?

“Are you kidding me,” I say, getting angry. I don’t know where this boldness is coming from but I look him straight in the eyes.

“Watch your tone, Omega.” I’m still not sure if I’m under an illusion and I kind of hope I am because I don’t think I could say what I about to say in real life. He glares at me, but I don’t care.

“Fuck you, Dad.” My eyes burn as tears fill them, not able to stand them twisting what happened to me. “He raped me! They all did. You think I wanted their disgusting hands on me?” I shudder as the memories pop up in my mind. “I’m glad he’s dead and I’m glad they’re gone.”

There’s a small part of me that’s scared of my outburst, but a major part of me just doesn’t care anymore. I’m not going to put up with this any more. My vision goes white as Mom slaps me in the face.

“Show some respect,” she says. “He was your Alpha.”

“He was never my Alpha, and I wasn’t the one that benefited from his ‘attention,’ Mom.”

“Is it true,” Kate asks. We all look at her. Her eyes brim with tears. “Is what Zeke said true?”

“Kate,” Dad starts.

“Don’t Kate me, just answer the question.” He says nothing. Kate grabs my hand. “We’re no staying here.”

“You’re not leaving.”

“Are you going to make me?” She glares him. “If you do, I’ll hate you forever.” Dad says nothing as Kate drags me into her room. She cries as she packs her stuff. “I’m so stupid. So stupid. I can’t believe I didn’t see it. I just waltzed through life thinking everything was fine like a big dumbo. Goddess, I’m so stupid.” She turns to me. “How do you not hate me?”

“How can I hate you,” I ask, pulling her into a hug. “You’re my sister.”

“I’m glad you still think that.” She steps out my hug and wipes her face. She stuffs what she can into her suitcase and leaves her room with me not far behind her. She stops in front of our family. “We’re supposed to a family, but you guys don’t act like it.”

“Where are you going,” Mom asks.

“The pack house.” We leave the house together.

We enter the pack house. It feels like it’s been forever since I been here. I don’t have any good memory of this place.

“He’s mine. You old bitch,” Amethyst says. “And If you ever touch him again, I will fucking kill you. Understood?”

“You-,” Amber starts to talk, but Amethyst slams her against the ground.

“Yes or Fucking no.”

Did that really happen? My head starts to hurt. Next thing I know, Kate is waving her hand in front my face.

“Zeke, you okay,” she asks. She looks me over. “At least you’re not bleeding this time.”

“Hey, lil’ bro,” I turn to Alpha Sapphire. She smiles as our eyes meet. Why is she calling me that? We’re not even related.

“Since you’re Amey’s mate, that makes you my big brother. I’ve always wanted a big brother. All my sisters suck.”

“You suck as a little sister,” Topaz says. “Brat.”

“So lil’ bro,” Ruby starts. “What do you do in your free time?”

I clutch my head. That never happen. I know it didn’t. I think? I don’t know. The sound of static fills my ears. I see Kate and Alpha Sapphire talking to me but I don’t hear a single word. They look frantic. I cover my ears.

Everything hurts. There’s a flash of light. I turn and see Amamethysta. I force myself to stay still. She hates it when I retreat into my mind. I was lucky yesterday when she decided to let me go.

My body trembles as she approaches me. She won’t physically hurt me but she doesn’t need to in order to hurt me. Through our bond, I feel her sadness. She grabs my hand, and her lips move, but I don’t hear anything.

I’m going to take away your memories of me. But if she takes the memories of her, wouldn’t I forget my pups? I shake my head frantically.

Please don’t. Please. Please.

I find myself staring into the white eyes of Azula. Everything goes black.
