Ch.6| New Beginnings

“Ow Lincoln! Stop, you’re hurting me!” Lincoln was pulling me down the hall and out of the building with a death grip on my wrist.

“Lincoln! Let Go!” Milosh screamed from behind me, causing Lincoln to stop in his tracks finally.

“Little one, are you alright?” Milosh asked as he looked down at my reddened wrist.

“That’s it; I’m taking you home!” He didn’t even let me get a word out before he grabbed my hand gently and started taking me in the other direction.

“Milosh, I’m fine!” I cried out as I chuckled.

They way Milosh watched over me was the same way a good father watches over his child.

“I’m going with Lincoln. I promise I’m okay.” I hoped the look in my eyes was reassuring enough for him to accept that I really was okay.

“Are you sure?” He was still playing the role of a worried parent.

“Yes.” I giggled.

Hesitantly, as if he was ar war with his mind, Milosh let go of my hand.

“Thank you,” I whispered as I leaned in and hugged him.

“Thank you for all that you do for me,” I whispered again, earning me a tighter hug that resulted in Milosh picking me up. It wasn’t his fault though, he was a giant, and his profession was taking a toll on his back.

Milosh gently put me down, then looked me directly in the eyes, “If you need anything, you call me. Day or night. do you understand?” He whispered with distrust.

“Yes, dad!” I smiled.

“I mean it!” I couldn’t help but roll my eyes.

Ever since I moved in with him and Ivanna, they became the parents I never had. Ivanna played the role of a caring mother who nursed me back to health from a bad breakup. She got me chocolates and tissues and even slept with me for the first few days that I was with them. Milosh, on the other hand, played the role of the over-protective father who constantly clenched his jaw, and had to check his anger because although he watched over me, he still knew his place in the family.

“Amore!” For a moment, Milosh made me forget that Lincoln was pissed off and waiting until Lincoln called for my attention.

“Comming!” I called back.

I ran back over to Lincoln, who led me out of the office build as I gave Milosh one last look. He stood in the middle of the hallway with his feet hip-width apart with his hand cupped together. His face was now stone-cold, and his eyes narrowed in on the back of Lincoln’s head as if he was trying to say that I was too good for Lincoln.

Finally, I walked outside, and when I looked over, I saw Lincoln holding the door open to a red Ferrari. It must have been brand new because I don’t recall ever seeing it before. I quickly hopped in, then Lincoln shut my door and rounded the front of the car to the driver’s side.

“So... when did you get this car?” I asked, trying to make small talk.

“Two weeks ago.” I was right; it was brand new.

I looked over to Lincoln and saw his hands gripping the starring wheel as clenched his jaw. The air became heavy with an awkward silence, and I could tell something was bothering him.

“Babe, what’s wrong?” I rolled my eyes in frustration.

“It’s nothing,” he snipped, never taking his eyes off the road.

“Well, something is bothering you.” I know we just left a hustle environment, but usually, Lincoln would calm down by now, and at this point, he was speeding.

“I said it’s nothing, Alaiyah!” I felt myself starting to get mad.

“Don’t tell me it’s nothing when you’re yelling at me like I did something!” I snapped.

Lincoln took a couple of deep breaths before he blurted out what was, in fact, bothering him.

“What. The fuck. is going on between you and Milosh?!” The green-eyed monster, I got my answer.

“What are you talking about, Lincoln?” I was appalled that Lincoln would even ask me that question.

“I’m talking about the fact that that man is my BEST friend. He has a wife and kids. Since you moved out, he can’t even look at me in the eyes, and to top it all off, he was hugging you.” His anger and jealousy began to show more and more, with every word he spoke.

“What are you insinuating, Lincoln?” I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.

“I don’t know, you tell me what’s going on,” he huffed out.

“Are you for real right now?” I started bouncing my legging as I tried to control the rage building in me.

“Are you, or are you not having FUCKING my best friend?!” His tone was dead serious. He actually thought that I would sleep with the man I called my dad.

“You know what, I get your mad right now, but I’m not gonna let you get me to that place. So I’m just gonna sit here and pretend like you didn’t just ask me if I’m sleeping with the man who calls me his daughter, but I really wanna knock you out right now.” With that being said, I sat back in my seat and pulled my AirPods out of my purse.

The rest of the ride home, I listened to music and avoided eye contact with Lincoln at all costs. I was trying really hard not to regret coming back so soon, but now I don’t know. God, fuck Lincoln and his pretty face.
