Chapter 11

She released her breath and forced herself out of his embrace to answer the call. Donald watched her intensely as she picked up her phone. He could have missed the emotions that flashed across her eyes.... It was first impatience, then surprised followed by hurt and then tears.

What he did not expect was to see her on the floor, passed out. He rushed towards her and carried her to the couch. He did everything to revive her but all to no avail.

He was about to kiss her when she woke up and the first word she uttered was 'mom' and the tears came. "My mom, she is gone.. she.. " she cried like a baby and Donald knew nothing to do than to gather her in his arms and kiss her tears away.

Julia's mom was never her cheerful self again after the death of her husband, Julia's father. She liked to leave alone after his death. She was trapped in her house that burnt down from a lit candle during the rain storm. Only her diamond ring was found after the firefighters tried their best to put out the fire.

Julia became an orphan. No one to call family. She cried until she fell asleep. Her dreams we're filled with nightmares of fire chasing her mother. Donald had to stay awake and comfort her. He was grateful that the following day would be a Saturday.

The sun was up when she woke up but Donald was not besides her. She went to the bathroom and brushed her teeth. Just as she came out, Donald entered the room with a tray of tea and toast. She finished her breakfast and went to take her shower. Donald went to his room to do same.

When Julia did not come out of her room for a long time, he went to see what she was doing.

She was in her bathrobe, on her bed, crying and sobbing. His heart went out to her and he had to comfort her. After a tedious job of comforting, she stopped crying and managed to get dressed.

They went to the fire site, collected some of the ash at where the ring was found. They then went to the quiet and peaceful place where her father was buried. She buried the ash beside him. It was a simple burial with friends and sympathizers. They dispersed to their homes after the funeral.

Donald, Jack and Emerald took Julia home stayed with her for a while. Jack and Emerald left after a lot of persuation from Donald. He stayed with her for the fear that she might hurt herself.

She only cried and cried until she fell asleep, "you look beautiful even in pain"Donald whispered in her ear. Her eyes fluttered at his words and she smiled. He was happy, he made her smile even in her sleep.
