"How do you mean me?" She asked. "I don't know, I just don't think I can do it without you..." "Let's say I'll help you, how do you want to do it?" She said. Wait... Did she just say that she's going to help me? "Well, seems like you are my only reason to not hurt other people, so, if I just keep you around, you can stop me when I'm walking to the edge again." "Hm, good plan." She said sarcastic. "Do you have a better plan then?" I asked. "Well, no..." She said. I started laughing. "You know what, come over, and we can talk about it." She said. "Are you sure you want to do this? I mean, what if I hurt you?" "Braydon, listen to me, I'm NOT scared of you!" she said. "Okay, I'm on my way." "Good, see you in a minute." She hung up. A smile appeared on my face, but I don't know the reason, cause this is pretty serious... It's 7 pm now, I'll go on my bike, I know my parents are coming home today, but they're leaving before Christmas so I'm in no need to see them. I grabbed my leather jacket from the coat rack and got my keys form the shelf. I made my way to my bike and headed over to Hailey.
Oh my god, I just invited Braydon over, and it's one big mess in here. Okay, he's not coming inside, we'll go for a walk or something. I grabbed my jacket and waited outside for him. I locked the house and sat down on the sidewalk.
5 minutes later I saw Braydon biking my way. "Hey, what are you doing out here?" He asked. "Waiting for you, and it's like a terrible mess inside, so let's go for a walk and just, not go inside." "Look, Hailey, don't lie to me. If you don't trust me, just tell me. Because I really don't want to push you to doing this, I don't want you to feel like you NEED to do this because if you don't, that's okay. I'll find another way." He placed his bike against the wall of the house and looked at me. I stood up and walked towards him. When I did I saw him walking doubled steps away from me, which I think is pretty weird when he wants me to help him. "Braydon? This isn't good, you know that right?" "I know, and I don't like it, but I think it's safer for both of us." "Braydon!! J-just stop this! I already told you I'm not scared of you!" I shouted at him. "I know but I'm scared of what I can do!" He shouted back. Some people walking by looked at us like we were some drunk idiots, but we fucking know what we're doing.
"Okay, Braydon... I get it. This isn't what I expected but I get it. But... I'm not giving up... You're not going home until you trust yourself with others." "It's not others, it's... just you." "Just me?" "Yeah, just you. Look. Other people can come as close as they want, but when you come closer I'm scared that I'll hurt you. I don't want that you know. for some reason I'm just really, really careful with you." "I know that you know the reason.... Tell me." "Well, you're the only person in the world that wants to help me in the first place, so I kind of don't want to ruin that." "Good, okay. uh, how are we going to do this?" "Not, we can do this with distance right?" "No! what the hell, Braydon. Come on, be a man."
"I am not giving up before you trust yourself around me." I said impatient. "Hailey, believe me, I want to, but I just can't." "Okay, now you're just being pussy." I said annoyed. I walked towards him and he doubts if he should walk away. I stopped when I saw him nearly stepping away. "Halfway there." I said. He awkwardly stood there. "Braydon, how do you want me to keep you from the edge if I can't even be near you?" "I don't know." he sights. "Braydon I want you to close your eyes." I said. He nods slowly and closed his eyes. I carefully walked towards him. I reached out for his hand en grabbed it. "Hailey what are you doing? What if I..." "What if you don't hurt me?" I interrupted him. "Braydon, we spent almost 2 hours on this. Why is it so hard to understand that I'm not scared of you! And I never was! I was only afraid for the pain, but never for you. Don't ask me why, cause I don't know. But I weren't and I am not. Just trust me on my word, that you're not going to hurt me." "Fine, I trust you, now, let's take a walk. My parents are home and I really don't want to be home right now." He laughed. I nodded and let go of his hand. We started walking without destination.
The moment that she grabbed my hand made me feel insecure. But at the same time it felt so good. I felt kind of awkward when she let go of my hand and we started walking. It was already 10 pm and it started to get cold. "What time do you need to be home?" I asked. "Hmm, don't know." She said quietly. "I didn't say something wrong, did I?" "No, no you didn't. It's just kind of hard to explain. And I'd rather not talk about it right now." "That's cool." I said. We were like so close to my home, and I really didn't want to be there right now. So, as I lead the way, I turned the other way. "Braydon... What's wrong?" She asked suspicious. "Nothing." I said. "Well, I guess we both have something we'd rather not think about right now." She started laughing and followed me.
We arrived back at her place 11.45 pm. I was so getting in trouble. But I didn't care. "Thanks Hailey." I said. "For what?" "For everything. It's just like... At the moment, it feels like you are my only friend right now..." "what happened with Brian." "Well. In the hospital, while I was unconscious, he took my wallet and the keys to my scooter. So, he stole my scooter because he knew my parents weren't home and my wallet with 200 dollars in it. So basically, Brian never was my friend." "Oh... uh I'm sorry, I didn’t know that..." She looked at her feet, which were suddenly very interesting. "It's okay. I trust you." "Yeah, I already knew that when you told me what happened over the phone Braydon, say what I want you to say and mean it." I smiled at her. "I trust myself around you Hailey, and I mean it." A beautiful smile covered her face. She gave me a hug. I was kind of confused, but hugged her back. "Goodnight Hailey." I said while she was walking to the doorstep. She opened the door and turned around. "Goodnight Braydon."
