Chapter 10

*Katherine's POV*

I was kind of excited and nervous at the same time. I had spent an hour on the phone with my aunt yesterday and today we were headed from Talladega, Alabama to the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Georgia.

My aunt had told me about how much she had missed me and we caught up and made small chit chat. She didn't want to talk about my mother on the phone, so we were headed to see her to talk in person. I was nervous. We had been driving since early this morning and it was already a little passed noon. It wouldn't be long and we would be there and I would finally get to meet my aunt.

I caught myself twirling my hair with my left hand and stopped noticing how fast if was healing. Blake had come and checked on it last night. He recommended I keep the stint on for a few more days and he would x-ray it again to see if I could fully use it.

I leaned my head on the window of the door and watched the mountains loom higher above me. I didn't know precisely where we were but I knew we were getting close. We turned on a road with a dead end sign that lead further up the mountain and deeper into the woods. It was beautiful but very ominous.

"Are you ready love?"

Troy caught my attention with the question. I had been shuffling my brain for answers and contemplating what I would say to my aunt. I nodded giving him a small smile. In all honesty I didn't know if I was really ready. My stomach was in knots.

The pavement ended and we road up a dirt road that wasn't big enough for two vehicles. I inhaled a sharp breath when we came up to a huge gate that blocked the road. The steel bars were massive and it was supported by two chimney like beams, but the gate seemed to disappear into the woods. A camera was perched on a beam and it turned to look at the truck.

"What is this?"

"It keeps rogues and other people out love. Both could spell trouble for the pack. Humans could be terrified and get hurt, and rogues will try killing off who and what they can. Being they are packless they feel nothing for the ones in a pack," he explained.

I nodded my head and turned when I noticed movement out of the corner of my eye. On the other side of the gate a man wearing nothing but sweat pants was walking toward us. He was built like a tank. His arms were huge and he was ripped. He had a bronze color to his skin that went with his gold hair, but his eyes were dark and cold. It sent a shiver down my spine.

The gate opened and he walked out jumping on the back of the truck. He tapped on the roof of the cab and Troy started further up the mountain. I looked back and the gates were closing. I took a steady breath and Troy reached over to stroke my thigh sending sparks straight to my core and comforting me.

Once the gates had closed I heard a whistle and Troy stopped the truck putting it into park. He rolled his window down and the man on the truck jumped off and came up to the window.

"Can I help you Troy?"

I gapped in shock. This guy knew Troy?

"I'm here to see Cecilia Archer, this is her niece," Troy said pointing to me. "She said she wanted to meet her niece. Is that a problem Broker?"

I watched as this Broker guy stared into the distance. I noticed he seemed to concentrate on something and then nodded.

"Go ahead. She will be waiting for you."

Broker said no more before walking off back into the woods and disappearing. Troy shifted gears and continued up the mountain. I wasn't long before we came up on a small community. It was beautiful. Like a resort in the mountains. Log cabins as far as I could see and a huge mansion smack dab in the middle of it all. Troy parked the truck and I jumped out. I looked around at the beauty of it all. My eyes skimmed over a woman walking my way and I froze.

She could almost be my mother's twin. The resemblance was so close. She had the same brown eyes and curly dark hair that fell to her waist. Her skin was a creamy color with freckles that dotted her face, and she had the same smile.

"Katherine," she called.

I ran to her and hugged her with all my might. I took in a deep breath smelling honey and lavender, the exact same smell my mother had.

"Aunt Cecilia?"

I leaned back taking her in again feeling emotional over the fact that my mother wasn't here.

"Yes baby. It's been so long. I haven't seen you since you were a baby baby."

I sighed, "So I take it that my mother isn't here?"

My aunt's face fell and she shook her head. "No baby she's not. We will get to that I promise."

She looked around me at Troy eyeing him up and down, "Now who is this young man?"

I turned waving him out of the truck and he came towards us.

"This is Troy. He says he's my lifemate. I didn't know about any of that either though."

"I take it your father never tried explaining things to you?"

"No aunt Cecilia, he didnt. He tried selling me off at sixteen." I eyed her momentarily and I caught shame shine across her eyes before it was gone.

"Come on. We will all go in to have a glass of tea and we will talk."

We walked up to the mansion and she opened the door for us. My mouth dropped at the beauty of it. There was a two sided staircase that when up to a second floor and pictures on every white wall around. The floor was hardwood and it seemed to go throughout the place. We walked left into a kitchen that was massive as well. There was two fridges and a huge deep freezer. An island big enough for almost thirty people to sit around it, and counter top space on every wall. A sink sat on a counter to the left and at the entrance of the room was a stove and oven. You could probably fit two small houses in here and still have room.

"Here honey, y'all come sit at the island with me and I will answer any questions you have," my aunt offered setting two glasses of tea down.

Troy and I walked to the island and sat on a bar stool. I took a sip of tea not quite knowing where to start.

"Are you a werewolf?" I asked.

She laughed, "We use the word Lycan, but yes I am a wolf. So was your mother, and your father was her lifemate."

"Does that make me one as well?"

"It is very possible. You would just have to complete the mating process to find out." I gave her a look of confusion and she continued, "There are tales that suggest when a dormant wolf changes it is after the mating process. While you get freaky with each other he will mark you as his own. After that if you have a wolf you will change. It will hurt at first, but it gets easier."

I looked at Troy and he held a mischevious gleam in his eyes. He looked at me and I felt my core get wet and my heart race.

I turned back to my aunt hoping to shake the feelings he gave me and proceeded to ask her questions. "If mom and dad were lifemate's then where is my mother?"

I wasn't sure I was ready for the answer to this. Something in my gut clenched when I asked it out loud.

*Troy's POV*

I heard Cecilia take a deep breath and I prepared for the worst.

"Baby your father was difficult about finding out about your mother changing. He fought with her and it broke her heart. She would call me crying and asking me what she should do. I really couldn't tell her much at the time, because I hadn't met Jeremy yet. I know she was going to bring you up here though. She felt like something bad was going to happen. After that I lost my connection with her."

"What do you mean lost your connection with her," Katherine asked.

I could feel her sadness rolling off of her in waves. I knew what Cecilia was getting at and I couldn't dare think about what this was going to do to Katherine.

"When you lose that kind of a connection with someone it's when they pass away," Cecilia answered.

Katherine shook her head. I noticed tears starting to form and fall. I quickly stood up and gathered her into my arms. She sobbed into my shoulder.

"I'm sorry dear. These questions are better from your father, but I know what he's like. I couldn't ever come around because of what I was, and the only reason he kept your mother around for as long as he did was because of you."

"What are you saying?" Katherine sobbed.

"I think your father killed your mother-"

Katherine jumped up and took off out of the pack's main house. Cecilia looked and me with shame and I took off running after her. I ran out the door looking around and spotted her at the truck climbing in. She had tears streaming down her face. I walked over and opened her door. My heart ached for her.

"I want to leave," she said.

"You don't want to spend time to get too know the family you never knew?"

"No Troy! I would like to leave!"

I nodded my head and closed her door. We had spent hours driving and she didn't even want to spend a little while longer here. It was sad, but I understood.

*Malik's POV*

I pulled up to the town bar, hoping to get a buzz and play a mean game of pool. Troy had started working my nerves. I hadn't seen him in days and I knew he didn't have a lifemate. He just wanted the golden Alpha spot. My territory. He never tried helping the pack, not like I would. I walked in grabbing me a bottle of whiskey, and leaving a fat tip for the bartender. I looked around at the busy bar and caught the eye of a pretty little thing in a mini skirt and bra. She walked towards me her blonde hair tied up high in a bun and her green eyes shinning with lust.

"Let me make your night a little better daddy," she said with a wink.

"Sure. Or you can tell me what your doing in my territory Bailey."

"Your territory?" She laughed. "This is still your father's territory. And I always come around when you come to town."

I sneered. I had fucked her so many times it was boring.

"I tell you what. I'll give you what you want if you can find out who Troy's lifemate is."

"Malik come on now."

She grabbed me and I felt my eyes change. I grabbed her wrist and pushed her away.

"You will have your spot and my cock shoved down your throat if you listen."

She shrugged and turned away to continue her conversation with a few bikers. I walked to one of the empty pool tables and started a game steadily drinking.

"Need a player?"

I looked up to find Caleb Dotson standing across the pool table.

"Well, well if it isn't the thief. Where's that slutty whore of yours," I asked.

"Well I was hoping you could tell me."

I missed the que ball and gave him a sharp look. "I don't know. I tried to have her and you beat me too it. Don't start nothing you can't finish."

"You seem to know the land around here Malik. I need to know who owns the cabin a few miles north of my house. That's where she's at. Some guy with a red chevy truck. Ringing any bells?"

He had my full attention at this point. Troy.

"I want her back Malik. And I know you like to cut deals."

I smiled and nodded. I pointed to the back of the bar and we went into a private area. If Troy had found his mate, and it was Caleb's whore this could work out for me. I could finally get what was mine.
