After I got back from town I drove a little further passed the reservation. There was a trail in the woods that led up to a family cabin. No one ever used it anymore. So I came here to be alone.
After a mile drive I pulled up to the two story log cabin and shut the truck's engine off. I sat there for a minute looking at the shades of the sky wondering how in the hell I was going to find someone to pass off as my lifemate. I shook my head and reached over for the bottle of whiskey I had bought and opened it.
I took a swig and felt the burning syrup seep down my throat into my stomach. It felt so good to be alone and not have to deal with my problems at the moment. I closed the bottle and hopped out of the truck. A breeze sang through the trees and I took a breath of fresh air trying to calm my nerves when I paused. There was a hint of blood in the air. I sniffed to make sure I wasn't imagining things and smelled it again.
I placed the bottle on the hood of the truck and started to strip. When I got completely undressed I started to change forms. My bones popped for a second and then I was standing on all fours. My wolf was black just like my hair and bigger than most other wolves. I lifted my snout in the air and the smell of blood was a bit stonger. I started moving into the woods.
I followed the smell for a couple of miles until not only the smell of blood hit me, but a vanilla and honey smell. It hit me hard almost taking me down.
I couldn't believe it. All my instincts were screaming at me. I felt every nerve tingle inside me. Could it be? I went a little further following the addicting smell when I came across a woman laying on the ground.
She seemed to be sleeping. She looked so peaceful. She had long brown hair that caressed her face and shoulders. Her skin was a beautiful creamy color. Wait. She's naked. I looked over her and saw purple bruising all over her arms and face, and her hands were swollen and black. I quickly changed back and knelt down in front of her.
I checked her pulse to find a beating heart. A very faint one.
"Ma'am," I called out.
I brushed her hair to the side as she started to stir. Her eyes barely fluttered open to reveal deep brown eyes that matched her hair. She squinted trying to get a better look and then jerked back.
"P-please don't h-hurt me," she squeaked.
Her voice sounded so angelic. His member started to spring to life just at her voice.
"I won't hurt you love. Would you mind if I picked you up and took you to get clothes somewhere warm right up the trail? I'll be as easy as I can and I won't touch you in anyway you don't like," I asked.
She didn't answer just nodded and closed her eyes again. I picked her up and cradled her. She nestled her head on my chest and tucked her hands closer to her chest. She looked awful, but was still so beautiful. I took in her little buttoned nose and her high cheek bones. Her full lips and long lashes and then started to walk back to the cabin.
She was trembling from the evening chill and I just wanted to hold her and never let go. I can't believe I had finally found my lifemate. I hadn't planned on meeting her out in the woods but just having her right here satisfied me.
The walk wasn't far but it took longer than it would have if he could have changed. He took her up the stairs and through the cabin door. He turned towards the den and laid her on the couch. A throw was on the back of the chair across the room and he gathered it and covered her up. A faint smile went across her face and then faded.
Blake. I mindlinked the doctor on the reservation. I need you to come to the old family cabin. I have someone here that's pretty beat up that I need you to check out. Don't tell anyone!
On my way Troy, he replied.
Blake Garner was a good man and a good doctor to the pack. We grew up together and he was someone you could trust too.
I look back at the woman feeling my heart flutter and hurt for her at the same time. Who could do this to her? I'll kill them when I find out. I clenched my fist and turned around to keep from getting too angry and started out the door to get fire wood. I needed to start a fire in the fire place to keep her chills down.
I grabbed some already cut logs and took them back to the den. I started up a small fire and fed it when I heard a knock at the door. I got up and walked to it opening it to find Blake.
"Troy it's good to see you," Blake said. "Who's hurt?"
He walked in and looked around medic bag in tow.
"She's in the den. I found her lying in the woods about two or so miles from here. She's got bruises on her face and arms. And her hands are pretty fucked up. Looks like something is broke. I smelled blood when I pulled up."
"Alright," he said. "I'll see what I can do."
We walked towards her and she didn't move. Blake kneeled down and started to uncover her. I growled at him being so close to my lifemate while she was in a fragile and naked state.
"I see," Blake smirked. "I'm glad you finally found her it's been a long time. Just remember though I'm here as a professional and to help her get better for you. So don't rip my head off."
I watched him examine her head first and then her arms. He pulled them up over the cover so she wasn't exposed and she flinched.
"Please don't hurt me," she whispered.
I went over to her and sat at her feet. She watched me cautiously as I sat.
"We're not going to hurt you love. Do you remember me finding you in the woods?" I asked her.
She nodded her head and relaxed a bit.
"He's going to look at your arms and hands and tell us what's broken. He's a family doctor. I called him when we got here. Can you tell us what happened?" I asked.
She looked down at her hands and sighed.
"I probably broke them when I was trying to get free of some handcuffs," she states.
I nod. "And what about your face?"
Her eyes widened and she shook her head.
"That's fine. Do you have a name?" I asked.
"It's nice to have a name go with that pretty face. I swear to you we will not hurt you. You'll be safe here." I say trying to relax her even more.
She hisses and we both look at Blake.
"Well, your left hand is sprained pretty bad and your right hand.. Well your wrist seems to be broke along with your thumb. I will have to do some x-rays tomorrow to see how bad the damage really is. As for your head I think you'll be okay. I could do an x-ray on it too though. If you'd like," Blake says.
"I don't need any medical records on me. I'll be okay. If you can wrap it that would be nice and then I can get out of your hair. And maybe some clothes," she blushes.
"Whatever we do stays between us and goes no further than us three. There doesn't even have to be any records. You'll be safe with us Ms. Katherine," Blake states.
