Summary

For those of you that don’t already know, the world has ended. Well at least for most people. First came the fires and earthquakes, then the floods and the collapse of the government, and then came the plague and the end of society. Somehow during this mess, I found a new home, a new family, and the love of four men. My name is Katana, and this is my story.

The collapse of the government started with political attacks on the rights of the LGBTQ+ community, women, and anyone that wasn’t Caucasian. The new policies led to protests and riots, to which the government and military responded with force and more policies limiting their rights. The worse it got the more they fought back. They destroyed government building, killed political officials, and somehow managed to take down the government. The military, police, and all governmental agencies were dismantled. With no authority to control Monopolies, Inflation, and Pharmaceuticals society changed rather quickly. But it didn’t immediately collapse like the politicians had believed it would.

Pharmaceutical companies no longer had the FDA and CDC looking over their shoulder to make sure drugs were thoroughly tested before distribution. They came up with some type of Miracle drug that cured symptoms of most chronic illnesses, but they never stopped to see what the side effects would be. My mother, two of my four siblings and I all suffer from a disease called Ehler’s Danlos Syndrome. I have been in pain almost every day of my life since I was eleven years old because of this disease. The Miracle drug would have changed our lives if we could have afforded it. But not being able to afford the drug is what saved our lives.

Everyone that took the Miracle drug got sick. They started getting rashes all over their body, temperatures of 108, and uncontrollable coughing and vomiting. Once the first symptom showed they only had 48 hours left to live. But they didn’t stay dead for long. Exactly 6 hours after their heart stopped beating, they would come back to eat the flesh of the living. With no military to help protect us and keep people from panicking society collapsed within hours of the first bite. Now the world belongs to the dead.

Addi : I liked the idea of having a time limit when it came to the bond ending, it was something new and refreshing. Then the fact that we got to choose how it ended made it better because we decided if it was worth it or not. You know? ♥️
