Chapter 17

The next morning, Clara brought me my breakfast in bed as usual. I had apologized for the previous day, thankfully she understood it was just a mood swing and she was back to being cheery with me.

I had later called my mom, seeking comfort in her voice. Her happiness was the only thing keeping me going at the moment.

After I ended the call I couldn't help but wonder, would I ever tell her the truth about what I did. I knew she would be so disappointed but I hoped that if I ever decided to tell her, she would understand it was the only way.

Was it? My subconscious asked and I was filled with guilt instantly. I had to push away everything away and picked out a dress for the beach.

At noon, I wore a simple loose long gown that the wind almost whipped away from my body. I knew I made the right choice for a long gown.

"Like it here?" Leornard asked the moment we stopped at the two white deck chairs he had prepared with drinks by the side and a big umbrella shielding us from the sun.

"I do" for the first time, he was wearing something different from a suit. He look simple and good.

I slowly sat on the chair and stared ahead at the clear blue water matching the sky. It was so quiet, only the flapping sound of the water which was surprisingly calming.

I loved it here. It was beautiful.

"Here" he handed me a glass "totally healthy" he added. I just smiled and took a sip but then I almost choked on it when the baby kicked again. Will I ever get used to that.

"Are you okay" Leornard was already by my side. I looked him in the eye, and I didn't know how to tell him. I bit my lip.

I reached out to grape his hand and placed it on my stomach. His eyes followed my hand at my action and then he stared at me puzzled. The next minute, something in his eyes changed, I couldn't exactly decipher it but I knew it was happiness.

The next thing he did caught me off guard and sent my heart racing. He leaned towards my stomach and kissed it.

Tears welled up in my eyes but I couldn't look away.

"Hi baby" he said to my stomach. I cupped my mouth in other not to make a sound as the tears slipped past my eyes even though I tried to stop them. This was totally new, this was an emotion I had never seen him portray. I didn't even know he had it in him.

But then again, this shouldn't be happening. This wasn't part of the deal. I was supposed to be in my house alone, after which when I have the baby, I would go in peace. Why was he trying to complicate that?

I wiped my tears fast before he looked up at me.

"Thank you" he said making my heart melt. What was wrong with me? All the questions I once had about why he wanted a baby came flooding my mind but I knew I couldn't ask him.

So with that I just nodded and breathed out.

"Can we go somewhere else, where we can see other people" I told.

"Sure if you want" he helped me up and we walked silently on the soft sand of the beach until I started seeing people running around and playing from far away.

We just continued walking, no word said. I could feel his eyes on me from time to time but I ignored it.

Once we got in the midst of the crowd or people on the beach, I felt a little relieve that I wasn't alone with Leornard anymore.

I focused my attention on the people of Miami, scattered all over the beach, girls in bikinis and guys in trunks.

"Omg! Can I take a picture of you" a young girl holding a camera squealed in front of me. Shocked, I looked behind me but no one was there.

"Please" she pleaded staring at me. I turned to Leornard unsure but he just nodded.

I stood awkwardly not knowing how to pose so I looked at her for some sort of help.

"Ok just stay here" she said to me then went over to Leornard "and you stay here" she pushed him close to me. Oh God. As if the closeness was not enough, he put his hand around my waist and my body froze but I fought myself not protest for the sake of the young girl.

She took the picture and smiled happily at us then said

"Your wife is beautiful" to Leornard before running along. my eyes widened and I turned to him but he just smiled.

Ofcourse I look like his wife, I was walking with him and I was damn pregnant. I cursed internally. Thankfully, this was a totally different city and I knew absolutely no one here.

"I would like to go back home now" I had enough for one day, all the emotions were overwhelming.

"I hope you had fun" he asked as we walked back home

"Not as much as you did" I told him "I never knew you could smile so much" finally I could be my sassy self.

"Theres alot you don't know about me Eva"

"Ofcourse, like the reason you want this baby" he went silent. I knew he wasn't going to answer the question anyway.

"We shouldn't be doing this" I told him honestly "I doubt this was in the contract"

"Did you even read it?"

"No but.. "

"I just want to be there for my child Miss Eva" I rolled my eyes.

"Sure Mr Leonard"

When we got home, Clara welcomed me with lunch, while Leornard disappeared to God knows where.

Clara sat silent next to me as I ate and I couldn't help but think of what she said the previous day.

"About yesterday" I started and Clara tore her eyes away from her phone I never knew she had, "what did you mean by that?" I asked.

She sighed, "All my five years of working with Mr Leornard, I had never seen him brought a girl home, you know, like normal guys do. Mr Leonard is just so mysterious, I would say" I processed what she said.

"But the way he looked at you" she paused and I frowned at her, "It was different"

"Clara, you haven't seen him with any girl before so how do you know its different" I tried to dismiss her thoughts.

"I haven't but I know that look" my heart starting beating fast.

"Well I don't think so, and I have a boyfriend"

"I really do hope you remember that" she muttered under her breath.

Bewildered, I dropped my cutlery and stared at her "Excuse me"

"I saw the way you looked at him too" my blood ran cold, my lips parted in schock

"What is that supposed to mean?"

"I don't know Eva, you tell me"

"I love kelvin"

"So why haven't you told him?" She shocked me again

"I know nothing about him so why should I tell him anything about me" I fired, "and who the hell do you think you are to lecture me" she flinched as I stood up from my seat.

"I'm sorry" she said, head bowed

"You should be sorry, you have no right to talk to me like that" I almost yelled.

"You are just my maid" I said the words I never believed I would say again. She looked up at me and I noticed the tears in her eyes but I didn't feel the guilt I was supposed to feel because I was not just offended by her words, I was hurt at her accusations. So with one last scornful look, I left her and climbed the stairs to my room.
