Chapter Nine: Flying Bullets & Shattering Glass
With a grunt, Ren slid out of her, then went in search of his phone.
She sat up and watched his naked body as he talked on the phone. When he was done, he hung up and looked at her. She saw the desire in his eyes as he looked her up and down. She even saw his tongue peek out between his lips. Then he shook his head, and his eyes cleared.
“We’ve got to get out of here,” he said as he looked for his pants.
“Huh?” She asked as she watched him.
“Do you have a necklace or something that I haven’t seen? Some kind of jewelry?”
She reached up to the top of her left ear to the stud her best friend had given her.
Ren watched her movement, then moved to the bed and lifted her hair. He grunted as he looked at the diamond stud.
“I need that.”
She frowned, “my best friend gave it to me.”
“I know,” he whispered, “she bought it at a store, where Trevisani’s people were hiding. They had made it for you, once they realized who Grace Mullins was to you.”
“What?” She squealed.
“Hand it to me,” he said as he held his hand out to her.
Stupefied, she pulled the stud out of her ear and handed it to him.
“You can keep the diamond,” he said as he went to his bag and pulled out a tool, then pried the diamond out and looked at the back of the earring. “Just as we suspected.”
She watched him walk back over to her and hand her the diamond, then showed her the back of the earring. There was a tiny device nestled inside. It had been under the diamond all this time.
“Tracker. That’s how they’ve known where we were every time.”
“You mean where I was,” Aurora cried.
“It’s okay now that we know you’re safe,” Ren said as he pulled her against his chest.
She cried against him for a minute before he set her aside and looked her in the eyes.
“Now, where’s that tough girl who gives me attitude?” He asked with a grin.
She smiled as she shoved his shoulder.
“There she is,” he said with a chuckle, “now let’s get ready. I’m sure they have someone coming here by now.”
She stared at his face. She hadn’t noticed it before with the adrenaline from being shot at, to the overbearing desires of sex. He had bruises and cuts all over his face, from fighting that man in the field.
“I’m sorry,” she whispered as she touched the cut on his lip.
He grinned, “worth a few cuts and bruises to keep you safe.”
She smiled, “you’re sweet.”
He grunted, “don’t tell anyone that.”
She laughed, “I promise it will just be between you and me.”
He leaned forward and kissed her lips. “I’ll hold you to that.”
Aurora looked at Ren as they drove down the freeway. They were in yet another rental car, headed to another stop point. They had left the back of her earring in the hotel room; after they had packed up their clothes. He almost dragged her from the hotel, not wanting to come in contact with another assassin out to kill her.
“How much longer until we reach my father?” She asked as she turned her head back to the road.
“We’ll get there sometime tomorrow afternoon.”
She sighed. Good, that gave them tonight to have some more fun. She smiled. Fun was an understatement for what they had done.
“Aurora,” he whispered as he glanced at her.
“Yeah?” She asked as she looked at him. She sucked in a shocked breath when she saw the desire in his eyes.
“Ever made out at a rest stop?”
She swallowed as she shook her head.
He grinned, “good.”
She turned her head as he turned off beside a sign that said, rest stop. She clutched her hands into fists as she tried to take in deep breaths.
Ren parked and pulled the keys out of the ignition, then jumped out and ran around the car and opened the passenger door. She watched him as he reached in and unfastened her belt, then pulled her out of the car, and kissed her. He hit the lock on the door, then slammed it shut and started walking towards the restrooms, as he continued to kiss her.
She groaned as she walked backward with his mouth devouring hers. He pushed the women’s door open and quickly looked inside, then pulled her in with him and locked the door. Before she could say anything, she was in his arms again.
“God, you taste good,” he said, then his tongue swept into her mouth again.
She moaned as she kissed him back. His tongue was wild in her mouth.
“Lorenzo,” she whispered as he pushed her against the counter.
“Say my name again, baby,” he said as he lifted her off her feet and set her ass on the counter.
“Lorenzo,” she said with a moan as his lips kissed down her throat.
“I want you so bad,” he said as he slid his hands up her legs.
“Yes,” she moaned, “God, yes.”
He grinned as he unfastened her shorts, then slid them down her legs. He didn’t take time to pull her panties off, he pulled her ass to the edge of the counter, then pulled his rock-hard cock out and slid her panties aside. He looked into her eyes, then slammed forward and forced himself inside her.
Aurora cried out as spasms of pleasure ruptured through her body. He started slamming into her, hard and deep, and she had a hard time holding onto him as her ass tried to slide off the counter. He held onto her ass cheeks and rubbed them as he kept her from falling off.
She wrapped her legs around him and pulled him even closer. When he slid deeper inside her, they both moaned with pleasure.
“God, I’ve wanted you all morning,” he mumbled as he bit down on her shoulder.
“I thought we were waiting for tonight,” she breathed as she held onto him.
He chuckled, “couldn’t wait.”
She chuckled. Her laugh turned into a moan when he lifted her ass off the counter and slammed her more firmly onto his dick.
“Yes,” she said with a moan as she wrapped her arms around his neck.
With a groan, he turned around with her still on his cock and moved towards the wall. When her back was against the wall, he pulled his head back and looked into her face.
“Ready?” He whispered.
She nodded as she watched his eyes devour her. He slammed up into her as he pressed her against the wall. She cried out as sensations exploded through her body. She wrapped her legs around him tighter and moved with him.
Ren grunted as he slammed up into her. She felt so good and so tight. When he felt himself start to spin out of control, he kissed her lips, then thrust up into her and exploded in lights and colors.
“Ohmigod,” Aurora breathed as she started to float back down to earth.
He smiled as he nuzzled her neck. “You’re so amazing,” he whispered into her ear.
She sighed with bliss. “You’re not so bad yourself.”
He chuckled, then let her slide down to the floor. He picked up her shorts and handed them to her.
“I’ll meet you out in the car.”
She nodded as she watched him leave. She leaned against the wall with a groan.
He is so amazing.
She shook her head, then pulled her shorts back on. She went to the sink and washed up, then straitened her clothes and headed out the door. She found him waiting for her in the car and smiled as she got in.
“Ready?” He asked as he looked at her.
She nodded as she buckled herself in. He nodded back, then pulled out of the parking lot and headed back towards the freeway.
Ren pulled into the parking lot of a hotel and paused.
“What is it?” She asked as she followed his gaze.
“They found us again,” he grumbled.
“What?!” She squealed. “But how? We left the tracker…”
“They know where you’re headed. They’re following the path to your father’s house.”
She covered her mouth with her hands. “But how…”
“I knew I should have taken a zigzag approach,” he said as he slammed his palms down on the steering wheel.
“Don’t beat yourself up,” she whispered, “it seems they have everything covered. If they know I’m headed to my fathers, then should we go?” She asked as she looked at him.
He sighed, “they don’t know that he knows you’re coming, and they don’t know your mother is already there. And number one, they don’t know about your brother.”
“As far as we know,” she said with a pout.
“I don’t know how they figured out where we were going,” he said as he looked around them.
“Can we just drive through the night? We should be at my father’s by morning that way.”
He sighed, “your father wanted me to make sure we got plenty of rest, but it looks like we’ll have to do it that way,” he said with a nod as he turned to pull out of the parking lot.
“Um, Ren,” she said as she tapped his shoulder and pointed out the window at the men with the large guns pointed at them.
“Shit,” Ren grumbled, “get down,” he said pulling her down just as bullets peppered the windshield.
“Ren,” she cried as glass fell in on them.
“Hold on,” he said as he peeked over the back of the seat and pulled out of the parking lot.
“Ren,” she cried out as the car jerked forward as he headed down the road.
“It’s okay, you’re okay,” he said as he brushed the glass off her back and out of her hair.
“I can’t take much more of this,” she whimpered.
He sighed, “I know, babe, I know.”
“Look out!” She screamed when she saw two cars parked in the middle of the road, facing each other, blocking their way through.
Ren slammed on the breaks and turned the wheel. The car slid sideways as it came to a stop.
“Get down!” He hollered as he threw himself over her.
Another sound of firepower came from behind Ren. He turned his head and grinned when he saw what was going on.
“Are they attacking from both sides?” Aurora asked as she tried to look over Ren.
“Nope, those are the good guys,” he said as he unfastened her seat belt than his own. “Well, our kind of good guys,” he said with a grin.
“Come on, Ren, get your sexy ass out of that damn car!” A female’s voice hollered over the sound of gunfire.
Ren chuckled as he opened the driver’s side door and slid out.
Aurora watched Ren slide out of the car with his head down. Who was the woman, and why was he chuckling?
“Come on, get the princess, and let’s go,” the woman said as she looked at Ren.
Ren nodded, then reached into the car and pulled Aurora across the seats and out the door. He ducked down with Aurora in his arms, as bullets sprayed the car above them.
“Let’s go,” the woman said as she continued to fire at the two cars, and the men surrounding them.
“Who is she?” Aurora asked as she ran bent over, across the road, towards the woods.
“Your savior, apparently,” the woman said as she turned her back on them and continued to fire at the other men.
“Come on,” Ren said as he took her hand and started to run through the woods. “Where did you park the van?” He hollered over his shoulder at the woman.
“Just keep running straight,” the woman said as she followed close behind them.
They finally came out into a clearing, and Aurora could see the van twenty feet from them.
“Don’t stop,” the woman said as she passed them.
Aurora tried to keep up with Ren and the woman, but she was stumbling, and Ren had to keep pulling on her arm to help her. She was more of a liability than anything.
“Come on, princess,” the woman said as she opened the back door to the van, “let’s get you out of here.”
Aurora looked into the warm brown eyes of the woman and saw no menace in her words. She smiled her thanks, then jumped into the back of the van, Ren and the woman close behind her.
“Hello, ladies,” a man said from the driver’s seat.
“Nicola,” Ren said to the man with a nod.
“Get us out of here, Nic!” The woman hollered.
“On it,” Nicola said as he pressed on the gas, and the van leaped forward.
“How did you know we would need you?” Ren asked as he watched the two assassins.
“Dom knew something wasn’t right. That it couldn’t just be the jewelry,” the woman said as she examined Aurora. “Are you okay? No holes?”
Aurora looked into the woman’s face; she seemed to be genially concerned. Her face was also familiar. And her thick Italian accent brought memories from long ago.
‘Don’t let that fall on you, princess.’
Aurora blinked. Why was she so familiar? The woman continued to check her over.
“I’m fine,” Aurora said as she watched the woman, “no holes, I promise. Not even a scratch.”
The woman seamed to sigh with relief. Once she was sure Aurora was okay, she pulled her into a tight hug.
“How I have missed you, princess.” Her thick accent seemed to get thicker with her emotions.
“Come on, Sofia, you’re squishing the girl,” Nicola said with a laugh as he looked at them through the rearview mirror.
“Sofia?” Aurora asked. Why did that name sound so familiar?
“She’s one of your father’s people,” Ren said when he saw the look on her face, “she was your bodyguard when you were little.”
“B…bodyguard?” Aurora stuttered.
“It is okay, Piccolo,” Sofia said as she moved a stray hair out of Aurora’s face.
Piccolo. Aurora thought. Little one.
“Sofia,” Aurora said as a tear slid down her cheek. “I remember you,” she said as she looked at the beautiful woman, “a little,” she admitted.
Sofia smiled, “even a little is a lot. You were only three,” she said as she pulled Aurora into another hug.
“Do they suspect you, Ren?” Nicola asked from the front seat.
Ren shook his head. “Only the ones who are dead.”
Nicola nodded as if they were talking about everyday matters, rather than the fact that Ren had killed several people in the past couple of days.
“We will take you to a safe place,” Sofia said as she rocked Aurora, “where you will sleep soundly.”
Aurora sighed, “sounds nice.”
