Chapter Twenty-Two: A Little Bit of Chaos = A Lot of Fun
“Romeo!” Amy hollered with excitement as she jumped off the stage and ran towards the two large Italians, who had just walked through the double doors at the top of the aisle.
“Hello, Amy,” Romeo said with a big smile. She looked so lovely in her faded jeans and grey sweatshirt.
“Have you come to watch us rehearse?” Amy asked as she beamed up at Romeo.
“We actually came to see if you and the girls would like to go out on the town with us tonight,” Davide said with a grin.
“We’d love to,” a girl said as she jumped off the stage and walked up to Davide.
“It’s to thank you, ladies, for intervening last night,” Romeo jumped in, just in case Amy was about to say no, possibly thinking it was a date…
“Oh,” Amy said with a frown as she looked away from Romeo, “no, I have things I need to do tonight…”
“What things?” The other girl asked, confused. “You were just saying that you wished…”
Amy kicked the girl in the shin. “I was just saying that I wished I didn’t have so much to do tonight,” Amy said with an annoyed growl.
“Oh, right,” the girl said as she hopped on her left foot so she could rub the shin her friend had just kicked.
“So, I guess I’ll see you guys later,” Amy said with a frown as she turned and headed back to the stage.
The other girl angrily kicked Romeo in the shin.
“Owe Vi, what the hell?” Romeo bellowed as he rubbed his sore shin.
Violette scoffed, “if I have to hurt, so do you,” she said as she raised her nose in the air.
Davide laughed as he placed his arm over the young Italian girl’s shoulders. “Eye for an eye,” he said with a grin.
Violette looked up at Davide with a smile.
“What the hell did I do?” Romeo asked as he watched the two in front of him.
“That girl is besotted with you. Didn’t you see her elated face when we walked in the doors?” Davide said with a shake of his head.
“She was just saying hi,” Romeo grumbled.
“Ohmigod. How do you keep your job with that brain?” Violette asked as she watched the larger man.
Romeo glared at her. “I keep my job just fine, thank you,” he retorted.
“She means you’re not smart when it comes to other people,” Davide said as he watched his partner, “and she’s right.”
Romeo glared at Davide.
“Besides, I thought you were going to ask her out on a date,” Davide said with a knowing smile.
Romeo took a deep breath. “I was going to; until I saw her…”
“Yeah, that sounds so nice…” Violette started to say until Davide shook her shoulders.
She looked up at Davide confused, he motioned his head towards Romeo. She looked at the other man and sucked in a breath.
“What made you stop?” Davide asked as he watched his partner.
“I was afraid she was going to shoot me down…”
“And you would have fallen like a led balloon,” Davide finished for him.
Romeo took a deep breath and nodded.
“She likes you, you know,” Violette said with a smile.
“Hell, after the way she just stormed off, anyone could see she more than likes you,” Davide said with a shake of his head.
“I’m too old for her…” Romeo started to say.
“You’re thirty-eight, not eighty,” Davide said, interrupting him with a snort.
“Ten years her senior,” Romeo grumbled.
Violette smiled, “I don’t think she cares.”
“You’re an idiot if you don’t go find Amy right now, and ask her out,” Davide said.
Romeo snorted, “no one calls me an idiot,” he said as he pushed past them and headed behind the stage, where Amy had disappeared to.
She had probably gone to her dressing room to get away from him. Well, he’s not letting her hide, and no one will ever call him an idiot again.
Not if they know what’s good for them.
“Ren,” Martina said as she knocked on the door to his office.
“Just a minute,” Ren called out.
Martina smiled as she waited for him to answer the door. He was probably crying after having to tell Aurora they were over. She will have him putty in her hands before tonight.
“Don’t forget,” a soft voice said as the door opened.
Aurora paused, then smiled at the woman on the other side of the door. She may not like Martina, and she doesn’t like the way she looks at Ren. But the woman was putting herself at risk to help her and her family.
“Hi,” Martina said with a scowl.
“Don’t worry, I will remember,” Ren said with a grin as he kissed Aurora’s lips.
“Your buttons are off,” Martina pointed out, hoping to embarrass the girl.
Aurora looked down at her top and giggled. “Thanks,” she said as she fixed her shirt.
Aurora looked up at Martina, and Martina almost growled. Does nothing phase this woman? Hell, she had sex in the pool, with her father standing above them.
“Did you need something?” Ren asked as he watched Aurora walk down the hall.
Look at me, damn it, not her.
“I thought we could go out…”
Ren shook his head. “We’re staying in today. Can’t go out all the time. That will look suspicious like we’re trying too hard.”
“Of course,” she said with a nod, “maybe we can…”
“Sorry, Martina, I have plans,” he said, then shut the door in her face.
Martina stared at the door with a scowl. “We will just see about that,” she grumbled, then turned and walked away.
Now she just needs to figure out their plans, so she can sabotage them.
“Ren,” Aurora said with a giggle as he walked behind her, his hands over her eyes.
“Almost there,” he said with a laugh.
“What have you done?” She asked with a bright smile.
He has been so secretive today. Aurora had reminded him this morning, what today was, and he had claimed to remember.
“Okay,” he whispered into her ear as he removed his hands from her eyes.
She felt a shiver climb up her spine when she felt his breath on her skin. She blinked a few times until her eyes adjusted to the light again.
“Oh, Ren,” she gasped as she placed her hand over her mouth.
“Happy two-month anniversary,” he whispered as he wrapped his arms around her.
“You remembered,” she cried.
He chuckled, “I didn’t forget our one month. Did you think I would forget the second?”
She laughed as she turned in his arms and looked up at him. “You are so amazing,” she said with a brilliant smile. “How did you pull this off?”
He grinned as he kissed her lips. “It’s a secret.”
She snorted and slapped his chest.
He laughed, then took hold of her hands. “I told Sofia and Nicola what today was, and they’ve been helping me put it together, for the past few days. They even found a way to get rid of everyone for the day. Even your father.”
She grinned up at him. “You mean, we’re all alone?”
He chuckled as he kissed her. “For the next few hours.”
She moaned as she leaned into him.
He grinned as he set her back from him. “The cook will be very disappointed if we don’t eat the lovely picnic, she put together for us.”
She sighed heavily. “Can’t we just tell her it was incredible?”
“What if she asks what we thought of the crab cakes?”
She looked at the large basket in the middle of the yard, with food and wine, waiting for them. “There’s crab cakes?” She asked as she looked back at him.
He laughed, “I don’t know. And we won’t know unless we sit on the blanket and enjoy this lovely picnic,” he said with a grin.
She laughed as she gave in and followed him to the blanket.
“But after,” she said with a gleam in her eyes.
He looked at her, and his heart skipped a beat. “Definitely after,” he promised.
Martina glared at Ren and Aurora as they sat on the blanket, enjoying their picnic. Soon, they won’t be so happy. Her plan will be put into effect in just a few minutes. She grinned as she looked at her watch. Hopefully, Mr. Romano will see them before everything is ruined. Then he will remember how angry he was, that his second has bedded his precious Gem.
Dom walked into his office with a shake of his head.
Where is everyone?
He can’t even find his wife and kids. He noticed the blinds were open wide on a large window and walked over to it. He paused when he saw a picnic set up on the lawn.
Someone is still here.
He watched as Aurora walked out into the yard, Ren walking behind her, his hands covering her eyes. He smiled as he watched them. They looked so happy.
So, they found a way to be alone, did they?
But why in the world was he still home? He would think that he himself would be their first priority in order to be alone. Especially if they’re going to be doing something like this. He saw something move in the bushes and groaned.
He should never have hired her. But it was hard to find someone so close to his daughter’s appearance, especially on such short notice. But still, he should have listened to Sofia. His eldest was always a good judge of character. What does Martina have planned? Other than keeping Dom home.
Dom laughed as he watched the chaos unfold.
“The cook really outdid herself,” Aurora said as she smiled at Ren.
Ren smiled back, “she did,” he said with a nod, agreeing with her.
“I am stuffed,” she said as she patted her stomach.
“Too full for dessert?” He asked as he watched her.
“Depends on what the desert is,” she said as she looked into the picnic basket.
“Me,” he whispered as he took hold of her hands.
She looked up at him, and her eyes shined with desire. “I’m never too full for you.”
He growled and pulled her against his chest, then kissed her senseless.
A hissing sound had Aurora pulling back from Ren’s kiss. “Is that a snake?” She asked.
Ren looked around them. “Where?”
“That,” she said when she heard it again.
“Shit!” Ren hollered as he grabbed her hand and tried to stand.
There’s no way they will get out of there in time!
The sprinklers came on and instantly soaked them. Aurora fell over onto the blanket, laughing.
Ren watched as she rolled around, laughing like a madwoman, then laughed with her. He should have known that a little water wouldn’t dampen her mood.
When their eyes met, they stopped laughing.
They don’t know who made the first move, but soon, they were in each other’s arms and rolling around on the wet blanket, as the sprinklers pelted their hot skin. It didn’t take long to get out of there wet clothes.
When Ren entered her, she called out his name and matched his movements with her own.
“You’re mine, Aurora,” he whispered into her ear, “you will always be mine.”
Aurora smiled, then wrapped her legs around his hips and pulled him closer, deeper into her. They both moaned at the sensation, and he picked up speed.
“I think you claimed me the moment we touched,” she whispered, and he grunted, then kissed her hard, taking them both out of this world.
Dom quickly moved away from the window when the couple started stripping each other. But not before he heard the annoyed, aggravated screams from below. Dom was sure Aurora and Ren were too involved in each other to hear Martina. Dom growled as he went for the phone. It was time that he brought someone he can trust, into his confidence.
Sofia stared at her foster father’s office door. He had called her home from her day out with Nicola. He wasn’t supposed to be here either. Hadn’t he received her note?
She took a deep breath and knocked on the door. “Papa?”
“Come in, Sofia.”
Sofia opened the door and entered the office, then closed the door behind her. “Didn’t you get my note? There was a last-minute…”
“Look out that window,” Dom said as he pointed to the large window, without looking up at his eldest.
Sofia took a deep breath, then moved over to the window.
“That is why I called you,” he said as he finally looked up to watch her reaction.
Sofia’s face turned a bright red then paled when she turned to face Dom.
“I’m not going to kill him. You will have to find someone else…”
“Sofia!” He hollered as he jumped to his feet.
She quickly took a step back away from him. She has never been afraid of him before, not even when he had caught her picking his pocket.
“You know me better than that, young lady,” he said as he watched her.
“But Aurora is the Gem of…”
“I know what my daughter is, Sofia,” he said with annoyance.
“And-and Ren is your second…” She stopped and stared at him. “I was right,” she whispered.
Dom laughed, “I have no clue what you are talking about,” he said with a grin.
Sofia eyed him. “Yeah, sure, whatever you say, Papa,” she said with a chuckle.
Dom cleared his throat. “I called you in because I can trust you. Your sister needs more protection then I had thought.”
“What’s going on, Papa?” Sofia asked as she studied his worried face. “And why are you home?”
Dom nodded and gestured for her to sit. Once she was seated, he told her what had happened.
“The announcement will be this weekend,” Dom said as he looked up at his second and fake daughter.
Ren nodded, “sounds good, boss. I think we’re convincing everyone that we’re in love.”
“I know, I have,” Martina said as she pressed herself against Ren.
Dom held back a laugh when he saw the horrified look on the boy’s face.
“Well, this Saturday, you will officially be engaged, and since you are so in love, you don’t want to wait. The wedding will be the following Saturday.”
“One week?” Ren asked as he watched Dom.
Dom grinned, “well, what did you expect? You are sleeping with my daughter, after all.”
Martina giggled. He will strike soon. Maybe he will make Ren marry her for revenge.
