18th December

I stood in the main room beside Fiona watching Sylvia as she greeted two other witches who had just arrived.

Sylvia stuck to her promise and called for all the help she could. From the past two days witches from all over the world had been arriving one by one and it’s surprising how us wolves have been so ignorant of the fact that so many witches still existed. Sylvia had informed the head witches of all the covens over the worlds and witches from different covens were being sent by them to help us in the war. The witches after all could not ignore their high priestess’s call for help.

By now a total of sixty two witches had arrived. As more witches arrived, my mind began to fill with relief. Now, we actually stood a chance of winning the war.

I was surprised when Sylvia said she would help me all of a sudden after watching everything.

That’s when Sylvia told me everything. Turns out, Sylvia isn’t exactly I her twenties. She is infact over a hundred years old. She had been chosen by the goddess of magic and witchcraft, Hecate, and granted immortality. The goddess Hecate cast a spell on all witches by which whenever the witches procreated, the witch trait passed down to the girl babies even if the witch mated with a human. Eventually the warlock population ran out and there are only witches left.

The reason why Sylvia was surprised herself was because the witch helping Rednax was her granddaughter, Inara. Sylvia said that after her daughter which means, Inara’s mother passed away due to an incurable disease, Inara turned into an anguish power hungry witch. She wanted to expose the witches and rule both the humans and wolves but when Sylvia refused to do such thing, she ran away. Sylvia couldn’t track her and had no idea as to what she was upto.

“What are you thinking about?”, Fiona asked me as she handed me the iconic New Orleans muffuletta sandwich.

I snapped out of my trance and took the sandwich.

“Oh, its just- nevermind. I don’t think you might know anything about the Royal Wolf family.”, I said giving her a small smile.

“Try me. Even though we don’t meddle in your lives doesn’t mean we’re completely clueless. We’re a nosey bunch. We always like to be aware of everything.”, She laughed.

I laughed before saying, “Well do you know about the late king’s brother, Alexander Dallesandro and his wife.”

“Yes. There was a rogue attack on the royal pack back in the day. They meant to kidnap the king but mistook Alexander for the king. It was only after he was kidnapped that they realised he wasn’t the king. After the kidnapping, the search parties were already sent out. Just to get vengeance, they tortured him and after burning his body left him in the woods. Alexander had a mate and a one- year old son at that time. His mate was heartbroken. The following week his mate left the pack along with her son. The king and his mate tried to stop her but she didn’t. What’s even more disheartening is that she was found dead two weeks after that. She hung herself to a tree in the woods.”, Fiona explained in a sad voice.

“What happened to the son?”, I asked.

“No one knows.”

Well, the shoe fits- Rednax is Alexander’son. However, I don’t know why he is coming back to claim the throne now and why is he declaring a war?

20th December

I sat up on the bed and looked out at the dark sky outside. The day has come.

I didn’t get a wink of sleep mostly because of how anxious I was.

I got up from the bed and walked over to the tall mirror in the corner of the room. I raised the t shirt over my stomach and placed a hand over my belly. I won’t let anything happen to you my little one.

“Hey, are you alright?”, I heard Fiona’s voice over my shoulder. I had been so absorbed in the baby’s thought that I didn’t hear her come in.

“Yeah.”, I whispered.

“You know if you want, I can perform a spell to cloak the baby. I don’t know about the wolves but Inara would definitely be able to sense the baby. Rednax would make killing you the first priority then because it’s the heir to the throne.”, She said kindly.

“I- thank you.”, I said my eyes filling up with tears.

“You don’t have to thank me.”, She said smiling at me.

“No, thank you for everything.”, I said.

She then performed a quick spell and we left for the Chapel. Sylvia said that she would open up a portal to reach there.

Other witches were already outside the Chapel when we reached there. They gave me encouraging smiles as I walked towards Sylvia.

“Are you ready?”, She asked me.

I took in a deep breath and exhaling through my mouth, I nodded my head. She gave me a small smile and raised her hand. She rotated her hand in a small circle and a human sized black hole appeared in front of us.

We had decided that first Sylvia and I would meet Zaphrostine and once I explained everything to him, Sylvia would open a portal for the other witches.

“I opened a portal in front of the castle. All you have to do is step through the portal. You should probably step in first. There might be wolves outside and they’ll attack if they see me first.”, She explained and gestured for me to enter.

Clenching my fists by my side, I stepped forward and closing my eyes, I walked into the portal. I opened my eyes to find myself standing exactly in front of the south wing. I blinked my eyes, slightly adjusting to the daylight. Due to the time difference, it was early in the morning here.

My jaw hit the ground as I saw the number people standing on the snow covered ground at least a five hundred yards in front of the castle. The people were standing in small packs forming a circle in front of the castle.

What caught my eye was the figure standing in front of two packs, giving orders.

The wind flowed through his luscious black hair, his piercing blue eyes were sharp and alert, his sharp angular face, his gorgeous body called out to me in every possible way.

“ZAPHROSTINE!”, I called out to him, yelling loudly.

He stopped giving orders and he turned his head, stopping when his blue eyes found my brown ones. I was standing behind the packs, at the base of the steps.

Electricity zapped through my body as he saw me and with adrenaline pumping through my veins, I lurched forward. I ran through the field towards him as I saw him running towards me.

I crashed into him and threw my arms around his neck. He tightly wrapped his arms around my waist and buried his head in my neck.

“You’re safe.”, He whispered, more likely comforting himself

We stood in that position for what seemed like an eternity but in reality, it had only been a few minutes. I pulled back slightly to admire his handsome face. My lips lifted up in a small smile as I stared at him. If only I could tell him about the life we created. Unfortunately, I have to wait till the war’s over. I slowly leaned in and captured his lips in a sweet kiss. Our lips moved in a soft rhythm and I almost forgot about our problems for a moment.

“I knew you’d return. I was so worried. How has the poison not affected you yet? Where were you?”, He bombarded me with questions once I pulled away.

“I went in search for help and fortune seemed to be on our side.”, I said giving him a hopeful smile.

“King Dallesandro.”, Sylvia called out from behind me.

I pulled away from Zaphrostine but he seemed reluctant so he kept his arm around my waist and stood beside him, clearing his view. Zaphrostine’s face contorted in confusion and his eyebrows drew closer.

“I’m afraid I don’t recognize you.”, He said and turned to me for answers.

“We have never met before. I’m Sylvia, the high priestess of the witches.”, She introduced herself.

Zaphrostine’s face morphed into one of surprise as he stared at her. He then turned to me and asked,

“You found a witch?”

I nodded my head and replied, “Not just one. I went to New Orleans. Sylvia agreed to help us. She called for help from different covens. When I reached New Orleans, the poison had spread throughout my body and I had almost died but one of the witches saved me. The witch helping Rednax is Inara, Sylvia’s granddaughter.”, I explained as he listened carefully and he pulled me closer when I told him I almost died.

“Thank you for your help.”, He said turning to Sylvia.

“There’s nothing to thank us for. The trouble was caused by one of our own so we are bound to help you.”, She said.

Zaphrostine nodded and asked, “How many witches are there?”

“A total of eighty five.”, She answered.

“Alright so we have a total of twenty units surrounding the borders. Four witches can be assigned to each unit and the remaining five can stay at the hospital to help the doctors.”, He said.

Sylvia nodded and said,

“Okay I’ll summon the witches and assign them to the units.”

She raised her hand and drew up a portal. Zaphrostine stared at the portal in amazement as the witches stepped through one by one.

I noticed that the people in the two units were also stared at the witches in awe.

“Maybe you should inform the pack members so they know the witches are on our side.”, I said and Zaphrostine snapped out of his daze.

He nodded and his eyes glazed over. I listened as he carefully gave the instructions to the pack. Once he finished, I asked.

“Who is covering the other parts of the pack?”

“The north border is covered by Genera, the east is covered by Nixon and the west is covered by Elijah. The pack members are underground in the safe houses and Charlotte is looking after them.”, He answered.

I nodded my head and asked him as we walked back to the unit near us,

“Did you find out anything about the spy?”

He stopped in his tracks and I his guard down for a split second before he started walking again.

“Yes, it was Catherine.”. He said, interlacing our fingers as we walked.

“What?!”, I asked, my eyes widening in horror.

“I caught her talking to Rednax on the phone. She was providing him information.”, He said in a stiff voice.

I stopped and hugged him tightly.

“I’m sorry.”

“You have nothing to be sorry for, my love.”, He said kissing my head.

“I know how much she meant to you.”, I whispered.

He just gave me a sad smile and kissed my cheek.

“I had to put her in the dungeons but she didn’t speak a single word and I didn’t have it in me to force her to talk.”

“I hate to let you this now that I know you’re already in so much pain but I think Rednax might be your cousin.”, I said.

“What?”, He asked me in a confused voice.

“Yes, I suspect he’s your uncle’s son. Your uncle Alexander and aunt Amara died when you were young but their son was never found. I think he’s coming to claim the throne. I don’t think you remember. You were only five at that time.”, I explained.

His expression turned to one of astonishment and he said,

“Everyone assumed Henry was dead when no one found him. But then why is he coming back after all these years?”

“My best bet, he was found by rogues, abandoned by his mother. The rogues must have taken him in and raised him in hopes that he could claim the throne and help the rogues in getting what they want.”

Zaphrostine closed his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose.

“My father used to tell me ‘Don’t be afraid of the monsters outside your room but rather of the ones that hide under your bed’. I didn’t understand what it meant when I was young but everything is clear now. It’s always the ones in your family or your close ones Catherine, now maybe Henry-“

“Hey. Look at me.”, I said gently grabbing his face in both of my hands.

“You’ll always have me. I’m never going to leave you. We’re not going to lose whether it be Henry or any other enemy. I’ll always be by your side.”, I assured him.

He grabbed my hands in his and kissed both my hands.

“I already promised you, Rose. I’m never leaving you.”

He leaned forward and was about to kiss me when I pushed him back. I heard footsteps, multiple footsteps coming near with my enhanced hearing.

“Why ar-“

“They’re here.”, I said in a panicked voice.

We both jogged towards the front of the units and stood facing the woods. I heard Sylvia and three other witches stand beside us.

I nodded at her and turned ahead.

The footsteps were getting louder and louder as they came near and soon, we saw them.

They’ve crossed the north border. Genera said through the pack mindlink.

They’ve crossed the East border too.

And the West border.

They have surrounded the entire kingdom.

My heart pounded in my chest as I saw the numerous hybrids and rogues come into my line of sight. What really caught my eye were the two figures leading the forces- a man and a woman.

“Inara!”, I heard Sylvia gasp beside me.

Despite the distance of hundreds of yards between us, I could clearly make out his face.

“Uncle Xander?”, I heard Zaphrostine beside me.

“What?!”, I exclaimed. I snapped my head in Zaphrostine’s direction to find him staring at Rednax in confusion.

“The man looks like my uncle Xander.”, He said staring at Rednax.

“Are you sure it’s not his son, Henry? You must have confused him with your uncle because he looks like him.”, I said trying to make sense out of it.

Zaphrostine slowly turned to look at me and said confidently,

“No, Rose, that man looks exactly like my uncle.”

“What?!”, I whispered, mortified by that fact.

“How is that possible? Didn’t he die all those years ago? How can Rednax be Alexan-“, I paused for a moment when realization dawned on me.

I looked into Zaphrostine’s eyes and said, “Rednax is Xander spelt backwards.”

Dun dun dun…..

Sooo were you guys surprised or did you expect it?

I mean it would’ve been so boring and predictable if Alexander’s son was Rednax.

Did you guys ever wonder what a weird name is Rednax? I was afraid to use it because I thought someone might figure it out but then I was like fuck it I’ll introduce Alexander at the end chapters so that even if you guys figure out it’s the same person, it won’t be a big deal. I also made the mistake of revealing Alexander’s age in one of Scarlet’s dreams. I said that he didn’t look a day over thirty but I knew he was 60 or something. I realised that mistake today while I was writing this chapter. I removed the line now but I’m sorry for those who read it and figured it out.

Anyway, I hope you liked the Chapter.

We’re at the end guys! One more chap to go. The next chapter will be up tomorrow. If I can finish the epilogue in time, I’ll upload it along with the last chapter but no promises.
