Scarlet’s POV

Dad! My eyes widened in surprise as I took in his form.

I was too stunned to say anything. I almost thought I misheard him because my father who hadn’t spoken to me in the past 8 years wanted to talk me.

I let my arms fall to my side as my mate removed his arms from my waist.

“Of course not, Mr.Martinez.“, My mate said kindly.

“Oh please call me,Stephen, your majesty. You are family now.“, My father said glancing towards me.

My mate nodded politely.

“Alright then, I’ll see you later.“, He kissed my cheek and walked off towards the bar. My cheeks turned red, how can he do that in front of my father?!

“Let’s go inside if that’s fine?“, he asked me softly.

I nodded my head hesitantly and we started walking inside the pack house. It would have been impossible to fit all the invited people and the members if the pack inside a room or hall, hence we kept the party and dinner outside. The music and bright lights illuminating the area faded as I entered the pack house for the second time that day. We continued walking upstairs as I immersed myself in my thoughts.

I am beyond happy that my father wants to finally talk to me but why all of a sudden? it because he found out that the king is my mate. I pondered over that thought for less than 10 seconds when I shook my head. My father is not like that. I should be ashamed for letting that thought come to my head.

“Scarlet.“, I stopped walking and looked up to find him a few feet behind me. He gestured me to follow him as he opened the wide wooden doors. The doors led to the big balcony on the third floor. I loved coming up here when I was younger simply because the view was splendid from this height.

I leaned against the railing, resting my elbows against the metal. I could see the party set up and the lush, dense forests beyond. The sun had set behind the hills on the other side of the forest and dusk had settled in. The sky was painted with beautiful shades of red, pink and orange. It was truly was a sight for sore eyes.

I would’ve forgotten I had company if my father had not cleared his throat to get my attention.

I straightened up and turned my head towards him waiting for him to speak.

“I.. I know I probably have no right to talk to you after all these years. I wish I could go back and change all those times. I know you must be mad at me and you should be because I’m a selfish jerk.”

“Dad-“, I tried convincing him that I’m not mad but he cut me off.

“No,Scarlet, stop being so forgiving. I don’t deserve your forgiveness. As a father, it was my duty to look after my children but I couldn’t even do that. Silas had to look after you and Sarah. It’s just after what happened to Sabrina-”

Tears formed in the rim of his eyes as he struggled to form words.

My eyes mirrored his and soon the dam broke. In two long strides I wrapped my arms tightly around his waist and rested my head against his chest. He wrapped his arms around my shoulders and shook slightly as he cried.

“I felt as if someone had ripped my heart out of my chest. One moment I hear you through the mindlink and the next moment I couldn’t feel her. The pain became unbearable when I saw her body. I promised her that I would protect her for the rest of my life but...but I failed her, Scar. I failed her, you, Sarah,Silas.”

“I am so so so sorry, dad. It is all my fault.“, I said between my sobs, as the day replayed in my mind.

He pushed me back slightly and rested his hands on my shoulders. I looked at him with a blurry vision as he continued in a pained voice,

“No no, my dear, you have nothing to apologize for. I feel guilty for making you feel that way.”

He wiped my tears away as he continued,

“I couldn’t bring myself to talk you because as you grew older you started looking more like her. I couldn’t look at you without thinking about her. I knew I was being selfish but still I continued .
Please don’t think any of it was your fault. When Silas told me a few days back you were going to leave tonight, I had made up my mind to confront you and confess everything. I thought I had lost my chance when I couldn’t find you after the ceremony.”

He paused for a moment then looking at me with a smile on his face he continued.

“I know why you didn’t want a mate, Scar, more or less the king but trust me when I tell you your mate is the best thing that can happen to you. Think about it, Scar, though I know you won’t change your mind, after all, you are your mother’s daughter.”

I smiled as he laughed.

“He can protect you, the king. He won’t let him harm you, Scar.”

“But at what cost, dad? We both know he isn’t going to stop. I’d rather not accept my mate than endanger the entire kingdom. Goddess know what cruel plans he has devised.“, I said in a small voice.

“Promise me you will think about this.”

“I promise, dad.” I lied through my teeth. I apologize, dad, but I have already made up my mind.

He stepped away from me and asked,

“Do you want to go back to the party or-”

“I would like to stay here for some time.”

“Okay then. I know you are mad at your brother but remember he just wants what is best for you.“, Saying that my father left the balcony.

I would’nt be in this situation if not for that idiot.

I turned around basking in the dark sky as the cool wind pushed my hair away from my face.

It had been about 20 minutes since I was enjoying my solitude when I heard muffled screams coming from downstairs. I wouldn’t have picked up the noise if not for my advanced hearing.

I was downstairs in less than a minute with my speed. I followed the sound of the screams and it led me to one of the guest rooms downstairs.

“Shh, girl, I only want you screaming when I’m inside you. I won’t be so nice if you continue screaming like a banshee.“,

I knocked down the door and barged in when I heard the annoyingly familiar voice of alpha Dylan.

Some of these alpha’s are so full of themselves, they think they can do as they please.

My blood boiled in my veins when I saw him pinning down a girl from my pack not older than me ,to the bed. There were tears streaming down her eyes.

His head snapped to mine when he saw me. My wolf was itching to take over and show him his place but I consolled her, convincing I could take him.

“Get off her, Dylan.“, I said in a deadly voice.

“Well, well, look who it is, little queenie who needs her mate to stand up for her. I don’t understand you, first you reject my offer now you’re interrupting a good fuck. Make up your mind woman! I mean I could still do you if you want me to.“, He taunted but nevertheless got off the poor girl making his way towards me. The nerve of this bastard!

The girl gathered the sheets around her half naked body and stood up, her body shaking uncontrollably. She gave me a grateful nod and slipped out of the room.

“Seems like mommy never told you what no means.“, I replied cockily, shifting my weight on my right leg, thrusting out my hip, examining the nails of my left hand. I stood my ground as he came closer and closer.
There is no way I’m backing down from this asshole.

“You bitch, I’ll show you what my mommy taught me.“, He growled.

As he brought his hand up to grab my wrist, I kneed him in his nuts. Holding his crotch, he doubled over, grimacing in pain. I swung my fist hard across his not so pretty face and heard a satisfying crack sound. I punched him in the gut and as he stumbled backwards I hooked my right leg against his leg, tripping him.

The sound of his groans filled the room. Kicking him once more in his crotch I walked over to his face. Placing the pointy heel of my stilettos against his jugular vein, I applied pressure but not enough to kill him. His hands wrapped around my left angle trying to lift it, little does he know his strength is nothing compared to mine.

“Tch tch just a little more pressure and you’ll be dead in mere seconds. Is raping women all you know because even a thirteen year old could take you down.“, I mocked him. I saw his face contort with fear as I continued in a threatening tone.

" Try raping one more girl or a boy and I’ll make sure your tiny wiener is nonexistent.”

“I..I apol..apologize, your highness.”

Satisfied with his apology, I lifted my leg and straightening my dress I turned around.

I was, however, caught off guard when I found my mate leaning against the door frame with his arms crossed and a proud smirk gracing his features.

He straightened up and extended his arm for me to take. I composed myself and walked over to him, placing my hand in his. Once my hand was secured in his, we started walking.

“How long were you standing there?“, I asked him, willing myself to not look at him.

“Long enough to know, not to piss you off.“, He replied. I turned to look at him with a smile.

“Though I must say, you looked quite hot there. Made me imagine of unholy things.“, He said with a sly smirk.

I snapped my head straight ahead, blushing redder than a beetroot. I could feel his gaze on me as we walked out of the packhouse.

His melodic laughter filled my ears when I blushed. The sky was completely dark by now and I realized the party was about to end as we neared the set up. Sarah and Jacob were doing the last dance and everyone was busy watching the couple from the sides. People bowed their heads as we too stood beside them, watching my sister. I started clapping along with everyone once they were done.

Sarah bid everyone goodbye and got into the car with Jacob which was waiting for them to take her to his pack.
Once Sarah was gone, the pack members started retreating to their houses. The other alphas were already making their way towards the airport.

“We should get going too.”

I nodded my head, my eyes following the car fading away into the darkness.

“I have to get my bags and change into something more comfortable”, I craned my neck up to look at him. I mean seriously as much as I like this dress it’s
pocking me in places I didn’t know existed.

“Your brother has already taken care of your luggage.“, He informed me.

“I still need to change.”

He nodded his head and gestured for me to lead the way.

I stepped on the porch and opened the door. I switched on the lights, reveling in the homely feel one last time. I walked up the stairs aware of my mate trailing behind me.

I don’t know how but I could feel his gaze on my ass as I walked up and when I turned around to catch him red handed, he did not look embarrassed at all like a person should rather he was smirking and even cocked his eyebrow up as if daring me to reason with him.

I shook my head unbelievably and continued walking upstairs.

My room had always been plain, with navy blue walls and light wooden flooring. There was a queen sized bed in the middle and a small desk and a mirror, apart from this my room was bare. I stepped inside the closet leaving my mate sitting on my small bed.

I had already removed my outfit on the chair inside since I did not want to be late for my flight. My closet was still filled with my clothes because I had only packed a few.

I guided my hand up my back but somehow the bloody zip had shifted up such that my hand was struggling to reach up. I grunted a few times even letting a string of colorful words out of my mouth.

“Need any help, love?“, he asked from the other side if the door, his voice filled with mischief.

“I’m good, honey.“, I replied in a sweet sarcastic voice.

Oh come on! I don’t want to ruin a good dress bu ripping it to pieces. I pushed my hand up again, biting my lips.

Get it, get it, get it-got it! Finally.

I quickly changed into a grey hoodie and a pair of black leggings. I switched my heels for a pair of Adidas sneakers.
I deposited my dress on the chair and opened the door. I pulled my ash blonde hair up in a messy bun, the short locks falling out of it. I had already told Silas to give the rest of my clothes to the pack orphanage after dry cleaning them.

His eyes scanned over my body as he got up.

“Your brother told me he and your father would meet us at the airport.”

I nodded looking around my room.

“You wouldn’t mind giving me a minute alone?”

“Of course not. Take your time, love.“, He said sweetly. I tell you I’m never going to get tired of his British accent especially when he calls me love.

I offered him a small smile as he walked out of the room, closing the door behind him.

I walked over to my window looking over to the woods behind the house. The darkness and silence calling out to me. The memory of what happened eight years ago flashed in my mind as I hurriedly brushed away the lone tear falling out of my eye. I closed the windows, stepping back.

“It is for the best.“, I convince myself, ignoring the horrible heart ache.

I walked towards my door, throwing a last glance, I closed it behind me just like another chapter of my story.

Most would think this is the happy ending of the girl who finds her mate and lives happily ever after all but alas it isn’t.

As I end this chapter another one begins.....
