"What is the punishment?" I asked in a whisper. Everyone's eyes were on me or Mrs. Rockefeller.
"Grandma, please forgive her. She didn't know about the rules of our house." Angela pleaded on my behalf. The innocence of a child and the love of a child towards others is just extraordinary, no one can match the level of kindness they show to the people they love.
“Angela, one more word from your mouth and you will be punished equally,” I was shocked, her behavior towards her family was so unlike a mother. The way she talked and controlled everyone in the family gave away her one characteristic, she was manipulative.
"Angela, come with me, we are already late for school. Come on," Davina stood from her chair and grabbed Angela's hand pulling her out of the trouble. For the first time, Davina did something very right. I sighed in relief, but I wasn't fully relieved because I still needed to bear the punishment.
"So, your punishment is-"
"Hello, my second family. How are you all?" said Cole, cutting off Mrs. Rockefeller's sentence. My life savior, you are the best, Cole.
He was very a casual outfit however he looked stunning as usual. He walked in the dining area winking at me.
"You shouldn't interfere in our family breakfast." Mrs. Rockefeller said this time thankfully glaring at Cole, not me. That woman can be really scary sometimes.
"Oh! I don't think it is a family breakfast because no one seems to be in the dining hall except you and Ashley." at Cole's words I turned my eyes to the dining table. Cole was right, no one was sitting there, it was totally empty.
"Whatever. It's not your house that you come here whenever you feel like coming. You should always inform us of your arrival. We all are very busy people Cole, not everyone has free time to waste." This woman has no respect for others and then she expects others to give her any kind of respect. Cole just ignored her comment and smiled at me like no conversation ever took place between Mrs. Rockefeller and him.
"Coming back to you and your punishment. Yo-" she continued but once again my savior interrupted her.
"What punishment? Why are you giving her any punishment?" said Cole in an anxious voice.
"She broke my two rules so she is being punished for that. Now, will you stop interrupting me? I do have many more things to do rather than wasting time on the two of you," Cole looked really mad at her remark.
"Listen to me, Elizabeth. The very first thing is, no human except your supernatural family would want to follow your abnormal rules, and if they don't want to follow your rules you have no right to punish them. Keep one thing in your mind, that Ashley is not your property," Cole said angrily and Mrs. Rockefeller shook her head in annoyance and went away.
As soon as she was out of the view, I hugged him tightly expressing all my gratitude for him. He is really the best person in this whole world.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you so much. You are the best." I said jumping in his arms. I kissed his cheek and pulled out of his embrace. He smiled and kissed my forehead.
"You don't need to thank me for anything. I was the one who pulled you into this messy family, so I should be the only one to save you from them too," he said tugging at my hand.
"By the way, why did you come here? I mean you wouldn't come here to meet any of these highly sophisticated people, and Angela is at school, so why are you here?" I inquired swinging our intertwined hands.
"I came here for you. Actually, Mr.Rockefeller said that it was better if we start the procedure as soon as possible. So, the doctor suggested to start it from today." he clarified and started walking towards my room.
"Hey, where are you going?" he asked grabbing my hand, causing me to stop in my tracks.
"I need to change my clothes. If I went somewhere in these clothes Mrs. Rockefeller is going to seriously kill me," I said looking at my clothes and frowned. They weren't too bad but I can't go out with them. I am too lazy to change clothes, but then again if I don't want to get kicked out of the house, I need to wear something more elegant to match their class.
"Okay, I will be waiting for you then, or do you want me to come upstairs with you?" he winked at me. This guy and his unlimited flirting are gonna get me killed someday.
"Don't you have any shame? You are flirting with a married woman, " he smirked and said "No," I shook my head and left to change my clothes.
Once I was representable I went down to see Cole typing something on his phone. He heard my footsteps and jerked his head in my direction.
"You look delicious," he complimented. I facepalmed myself, then eyed him pointedly.
“Let's go before someone kills you for flirting with me,” Cole said and rolled my eyes at him
We were at the hospital and my checkup was over. The doctor ordered us to bring Auden with us next time because apparently, it was his child too who I was gonna bear in my womb.
Cole was in the cafeteria of the hospital to bring something for us to drink and I was wandering around the hospital. Should I go and meet Ryder and Emily? Is someone keeping an eye on me from the Rockefeller family? I don't think that I should risk their lives like this.
I was lost in my thoughts when someone touched my shoulder making me turn around to face that person.
"Emily!!" I said with relief and excitement filled in my voice. We hugged each other and started jumping together. We can behave like a five-year-old child sometimes, especially when we both are together.
"I missed you, I missed you so much." Emily squealed. "I missed you too," I replied and squeezed her face.
"I was so worried yesterday, I am sorry that I disturbed you on your wedding day," she said in an apologetic tone. Is she crazy? I am doing this for them, why would I ever be disturbed if they need something from me.
"Shut up, idiot. I love you, why would I be disturbed by your call." I scolded her, pulling back.
"Ash, thank God you are here. You know how worried I was. I thought you were lost or someone kidnapped you." said Cole placing his hand on the small of my back, frowning at me.
"Who is he?" Emily asked interrupting my apology for roaming around the hospital and making Cole worried.
"He is Cole. Didn't you both meet each other? He was the one who came here to help you when I was busy with the wedding." I asked Cole, but he seemed dazed, making me more and more confused.
"Uh, No we have never met before," said Emily, and Cole snapped out of his daze. "Yeah, um, I just went to the reception and did all the payment. I didn't meet anyone," he explained.
"Oh, okay, so you two haven't met before. Emily this is Cole, he is a family friend of Auden, and Cole this is Emily, my best friend." I introduced them to each other.
Emily stretched out her hand mumbling a small hi to him. Cole just nodded and turned to me. "You shouldn't have gone anywhere without informing me," he said ignoring her. I didn't like his attitude towards my best friend, but he didn't say anything mean and I was really grateful for everything he had done for me till now, so I couldn't complain.
"I am sorry. I just felt uncomfortable sitting in one place for so long," I apologised giving him a soft smile.
"Okay, I think we should be going now," he said grabbing my arm and pulling me towards the exit.
"Wait, I was hungry, moreover I haven't talked with Emily for two days. Let me at least talk to her for 5 minutes," I pleaded him but he shook his head.
"You don't want to put your best friend in danger, do you?" he said dragging me. For some weird reason, I didn't feel like what he said was the whole truth, there was another reason for him to drag me out without letting me even say goodbye to my best friend.
I pulled my arm back from him in anger and went to the car stomping my foot on the ground.
Once I was in the car, I locked the car from inside. Cole reached the car and tried opening it but he couldn't. How will he be able to open the car when the car is locked from inside? I tried to hide my grin when he pulled on the handle of the car with more force.
I bet he was going nuts over it, then he kicked the door muttering several curses. He looked at me, I tried my best but I couldn't hide the huge grin on my face. He eventually understood my trick and scowled at me.
"Open the car Ash," he ordered and I stubbornly shook my head still grinning at him.
"Open the damn car Ashley," he said gritting his teeth.
"No, no and no," at this point my cheeks were paining from smiling for a long time.
"Okay, what do you exactly want from me?" he asked in annoyance.
"I want the truth," I said shrugging my shoulders.
"Which truth are you talking about?" he asked trying to find the keys in his pants.
I raised the keys in front of him. "How the hell did you get them?"
I chuckled and threw the keys on the backseat of the car.
"I took them out of your pocket when you were busy dragging me away from my best friend," he rolled his eyes and then huffed in annoyance.
"Okay, what do you want to know?" he said giving up.
"Do you know Emily?" I questioned and he turned pale. Of course, he wasn't expecting me to ask that to him. I can be a little observant at times.
He signed, he knows that I won't just let it slide away like this. "We studied in the same school when we were kids. I know her from there." That makes sense, Emily's parents were rich at some point, and they sent her to a very luxurious school. They even told my parents that they would pay for me to go to the same school, but my parents denied saying that they didn't want me to live on others' expenses.
"Oh! Then how come Emily doesn't recognise you?" I inquired turning to take the keys from the backseat.
"She never noticed me so-"
"Shit!" I yelled and jumped to the backseat.
"What happened? Are you alright?" he asked anxiously.
"That depends on you."
"I think I lost the keys of the car."
