The next day when I woke up, I could hear the soft voices of unknown men outside my door. Both the rooms were on the first floor of the house so it could the second housemate moving his stuff in.
I got out of my bed, took out my toiletries bag, and arranged it in my bathroom. Then I took out random clothes from my bag and went in to take a much-needed shower. After I got dressed, I went down hoping to meet my new home mate and go out to grab some breakfast. When I entered the living room, there was no one around but I could hear someone moving in the kitchen.
Entering the kitchen, there was a guy with his back to me. Woah, a guy? I had to share a home with a guy? Well, that’s okay. I don’t have many other choices anyways.
“Hello! I am Amara, your new House Mate. Hope we can get to know each other better and make a peaceful place of our own” I exclaimed happily. First impressions are always important.
To my horror, when he turned around it was none other than James.
“Oh, Hi Amara! You are my Home Mate? This is such a pleasant surprise. Now not only are we going to stay together, but we can also travel to work together!” said a surprised James. I don’t know why; his face had a surprised expression but his eyes spoke something else.
“James? Wow, this is a huge surprise.” I was gobsmacked. I didn’t even know what else to say.
“Okay then, I am going out to grab some breakfast. See you around” I replied hurriedly and tried to leave the kitchen.
“Really? I was thinking of the same. Let’s tag along together. There is a nice place just around the corner. You will love their Pancakes. I know they are your favourite” he replied gleefully.
What now. I can’t even think of an excuse right now to get out of it. I replied an affirmative and he hurriedly picked up his wallet from the counter and followed me out.
When we reached that place, it was a nice cosy diner with a delicious aroma of food all around.
We took a table by the window, and a waiter came to our table to take our order.
“What would you like Mam? Asked the waiter.
When I looked at the menu, Pancakes and Vanilla Milkshake were singing out to me so I repeated the order to him.
“Mam, you can also try our Chicken Teriyaki Burger, it’s our bestseller.” exclaimed our waiter. Aw, he’s such a good guy.
Before I could reply, James replied to him rather rudely “No she will not. She is a Vegetarian and she has never had any meat. Why don’t you mind your own business and just bring us two sets of Pancakes, a Vanilla Milkshake for her, a Cold Coffee for me and a side of Fries. And be quick!“.
The waiter hurriedly walked away and I got really angry.
“This is not how you speak to someone. He was just being polite and was merely suggesting another option to add. There was no need to be rude. He didn’t know I was a vegetarian”.
“Amara, you don’t know these guys. All they think about is one thing and one thing only. He was trying to flirt with you. But you are so innocent that you don’t even notice these kinds of stuff. I was merely helping you out” James replied.
Was that waiter really flirting? I am that dense?
“Even if he was flirting with me, you have no right to interfere. You are my friend, not my boyfriend.” I replied angrily.
“Not for long” he muttered under his breath.
“What did you say?” I asked. “Nothing. Ah, the food is here” he replied ignorantly.
When the waiter placed our food on the table, he hurriedly turned around and rushed away.
I ignored James and took the first bite. It was heaven!
“I told you. You will love this place.” James said smugly.
“Yeah okay. This is awesome.” Even the shake was perfect.
We the bill arrived; James was persistent to pay for both of us. Well, who says no to free food? I don’t.
When we reached back home, I made a beeline to my room and locked myself in.
I went to bed again and slept like a baby until it was dark outside.
