Ava paced back and forth in her bedroom, her wolf snarling in anger which radiated off of her in waves. She was furious with the situation, furious at Gray, furious at Eric for not being awake to help her, but most of all she was furious with herself for not being stronger and not knowing how to proceed. Her wolf wanted nothing more than to run away or run to her mate, but Ava knew she couldn’t.
After his announcement Gray had taken her home to “think about his offer” and had stationed some warriors around her house to “protect” her. She knew that was a lie. Gray had given her one week to make a decision and those warriors were there to keep her from running. Her wolf was pissed, she was pissed, and she was running out of time and options. She had no family and all of her friends were happily mated. To confront Gray about her would be to challenge him for his position and she didn’t know anyone who would be willing to do that for her, not when a challenge always meant a fight to the death. She knew Eric would but, even if she managed to break the curse, she had no idea what type of shape he would be in after being unconscious for 10 years. She doubted he would be able to beat Gray without taking some time to retrain and build his strength.
She sat down on the bed, despair replacing her anger. The situation was looking more and more hopeless the longer she thought about it. Her only option was to wake up Eric but then what? Gray wouldn’t honor the mating bond, especially with Eric being the rightful new Alpha. He would challenge him, Eric would probably lose, and then Gray would claim her anyway. She could ask Eric to run away with her, but Gray would probably track her down and kill him if Eric even agreed to run away from his pack and his position.
The despair was starting to eat at her and, before she knew it, she was fast asleep with tears still on her cheeks and her mind in turmoil.
Ava was wrapped in Eric’s embrace, his hand gently stroking her hair. She could feel his relief at seeing her, but she could also sense his anxiety and realized he could tell something was wrong. She didn’t want to talk about it though, she wanted him to hold her and make her feel safe and loved.
“Ava?” he asked gently, pulling her away slightly so he could look into her eyes. “Something is wrong. You didn’t come to the clinic today and now I can sense your distress. Won’t you talk to me?”
She shook her head, tears threatening to fall. “I don’t want to ruin the moment with more tears.”
“I need to know what’s wrong. How can I help if you won’t talk to me?”
“But you can’t help! You’re in a coma!” Ava was trying not to cry as she pushed roughly away from him but she felt the tears begin to fall. “I’m all alone.”
Eric wrapped his arms around her from behind and pulled her close once again as she began to sob. She hadn’t wanted to hurt him but she also needed his touch and she needed to let go of her emotions. He let her cry for as long as she needed, holding her to him and stroking her hair softly. He wished he could do more for her, he hated seeing her in distress.
“You’re not alone,” Eric said after she had calmed down. “I am here for you and I will always be here for you. Please talk to me. I was so worried about you today and so distraught that I couldn’t do anything. I think Emily and Carol were concerned I was going to injure myself by mistake.” He chuckled slightly and Ava looked up at him in confusion.
“How do you know that?” she asked.
“I may be in a coma,” he said after a moment. “But it’s a magical coma. I can sense everything that is happening around my body and hear everything that is happening, I just can’t do anything about it. When my emotions get too high my body reacts by thrashing and screaming but I have no control over that either. I’m stuck in this void.”
“I feel like I’m stuck in a void,” Ava said after a moment. She paused and Eric waited for her to continue.
“Beta Gray asked me to be his mate,” she said after a moment, not looking at Eric. Shame was coursing through her at having to reveal that to her true mate and she could sense Eric’s anger.
“What?” he said, his voice dangerously low. He gently turned Ava’s face to look at him. “I need you to tell me everything, Ava. No holding back and no secrets. Tell me everything that he said.”
Ava could only nod as she began to tell Eric everything that had happened that day, from Michael trying to break in to Gray’s threats and his ultimatum. When she was done she realized she was crying again and Eric looked ready to murder anyone who got in his way. Instead he pulled her back to him and held her close. Ava wrapped her arms around him and they sat in silence for a moment.
“I’m sorry,” he said after a moment. Ava pulled away to look at him.
“For what? None of this is your fault or your doing.”
“No but it’s my family that is threatening you and, you’re right, I can’t help you. I’m your mate, I should be there for you to protect you.”
“Do you know how to break the curse?” Ava asked after a moment.
“No,” Eric said. “I wish I did but I don’t even know who did this to me. I was asleep when the curse was placed on me, or maybe me falling asleep triggered it. Either way one minute I was going to bed in my room and the next I was trapped here.”
“I’ll find a way to break the curse,” Ava said, determination replacing her despair. “We can run away together, far away where no one will ever find us.”
“Ava...” Eric started but she put her finger gently to his mouth to quiet him.
“Don’t speak,” she said. “Let me do something to distract myself from the horror of what could happen and the threats hanging over us. Right now I need my mate.”
“I don’t want our first time to be tainted by this place,” Eric said, shaking his head and standing up. They would talk about the curse later when she wasn’t so distraught.
“Then let me pleasure you,” she said with a smile as she undid his belt and his pants. She slowly pulled them and his boxers down as she knelt in front of him, his hard cock springing free.
“Ava....” he started as she grabbed his cock and began to stroke it, his words changing to a moan. He watched in awe as she slowly licked him from base to tip before taking him into her mouth and sucking hard. She was a natural and the warmth of her mouth combined with the actions of her tongue almost had him cumming immediately. He had never felt anything so amazing.
He gripped her hair gently and guided her mouth up and down his length, slowly increasing the speed. He could feel his cock hitting the back of her throat and grunted at the exquisite feel of it all. He felt a tingling at the base of his spine and his balls begin to tighten. He had a momentary thought that he should warn her before it was too late and he felt his orgasm rip though him shooting hot cum straight down her throat. He had never felt anything so amazing in his entire life and his cock continued to jerk as she swallowed every last drop. His mate was amazing and he had now marked at least part of her. He pulled her to her feet and kissed her, tasting himself on her tongue.
“My alarm is going to go off soon,” Ava moaned as he began to kiss her neck, his hands moving down to her breasts.
“Tomorrow night then,” he said, continuing to kiss her and pulling her breasts free of her shirt. “I will return the favor. I want to taste you every where.” His words were like a fire in her blood as she felt herself getting wetter. She didn’t want to wake up.
