Chapter 10

Don’t forget to make me happy by clicking the star below <3

Masquerade parties suck. I despise it so much and I don’t even know what I am doing here. It’s all because of my stupid best friend, Adam. He forced me to come here but now he is nowhere to be seen. He must be probably dancing with some random girl while grabbing her ass. I try to clear the picture of Adam grabbing someone’s ass and focus on the drink kept in front of me. I am currently sitting at the bar and sipping on my drink to lighten up my mood a little.

“Can I buy you a drink?” I heard someone ask from behind me. The voice seemed very familiar but I couldn’t recognize who it was, obviously because of the stupid mask that he was wearing.

“Do I even know you?”

“No. But there’s always a first time.” He winked at me. I gazed at him for a few seconds and realized though his face was hidden behind the mask but his smile was undeniably cute.

“Okay.”

“Okay.” He repeated my words whilst having a dashing smile on his face.

“Okay.”

“I think okay is going to be our always,” he said with a light chuckle.

Damn. He has surely read the fault in our stars.

“That’s such an original dialogue you have come up with,” I said in a sarcastic tone.

“Yeah, I know.” He laughed. He had a contagious laugh and I loved the sound of it.

“So what’s your name?”

“Eva Jones.”

“Are you from our school?”

“No.”

“Which school are you from then?”

“Why should I tell you that?”

“Let me start then, my name i-”

Before he could complete his sentence I raised my hands and asked him to stop.

“I don’t want to know your name.”

“And why is that?”

“Let’s make a deal.”

“What?” He asked bewildered with whatever was happening right now.

“Let’s just enjoy this party without telling our names to each other.”

“But why?”

“What if you tell me your name and I realize that you are some guy I really hate and then I wouldn’t feel like talking to you anymore and that would spoil all the fun we could have tonight,” I said in one breath and started gasping for air.

He laughed looking at me and then passed me a glass of water. “I agree with that. So I am guessing Eva isn’t your real name?”

“Yes. It’s a nice name though..” I said in a low voice which gained a light chortle from his side.

“My name’s Aaron. It was nice meeting you, Eva.” He said while curtsying to me just the way they show it in every romantic cheesy movie.

“Can I have a dance with you?”

“Sure. I would love that.” I said and blushed lightly. He held my hand and together we went to the dance floor. A piece of slow music started playing and he slid his hand to my waist, I froze at his touch. It was electrifying but after a few seconds, I circled my hands around his neck and we just stood there moving our bodies with the song. This was far better than what I expected it to be. I didn’t even know this guy but his touch melted me. It was so comforting that I wanted to stay like this for a long time.

“So can I know something about this girl named Eva?” He asked to break the silence. It’s not that I didn’t like the silence, for me it wasn’t awkward at all. It was rather comforting.

“Well, Eva doesn’t like masquerade parties at all. That’s all I can tell you about her.”

He laughed and asked, “So what is she doing here then?”

“Her friend forced her to come so she was left with no other choice but to say yes.”

“Oh, I see. So is Eva enjoying the party right now?”

“Umm... I am not that sure about it. She met this guy named Aaron at the party and he is pretty good.”

“Aaron? That’s my friend. He’s a great guy. I am sure Eva will enjoy his company.”

“It’s not that simple to impress Eva you know.”

“Well then let me frame it like, Aaron loves challenges.” He said with a smirk.

“Tell me something about Aaron,” I asked staring at his beautiful face.

“Well...Aaron loves girls.”

“Shut up.”

I then bent towards him and in a very low voice whispered in his ear, “I want to know his deepest secret.”

He looked shocked at first but then he gave a small smile and said, “His biggest fear is rejection. That’s the reason he does not have the balls to confess to the girl he loves.”

I thought he was joking when he told me that but when I peered into his eyes, I knew at once that he told me something very close to his heart. I couldn’t believe that a stranger whom I just met would ever talk so candidly with me. Even though I couldn’t see his face, somewhere down I felt like I knew this person. It felt like our hearts connected. It wasn’t like love at first sight or shit but it felt like talking to a very close friend, the one whom you can easily tell anything.

“Where are you lost?” His words pulled me out of my reverie.

“Nothing. I was just thinking about random stuff.”

He smiled and then pulled me closer to him, that’s when I realized that we were still on the dance floor. I rested my head on his chest and he tightened his grip around my waist. He was a stranger to me yet it felt so comfortable. Suddenly the song changed and a pop song started playing. We looked at each other and laughed at the same time. He spun me around and we started dancing together. It was so much fun. We literally danced like there was no tomorrow.

“Are you thirsty?” He asked me while we were still dancing.

“Yeah, a little.”

“I’ll get you a drink then,” he said and started walking towards the bar. My eyes kept following him but after a while, he just disappeared into the crowd. Nonetheless, I just danced around with some random strangers.

“Adaline. Where the fuck were you?” Racheal yelled from behind. I turned to see that she was standing with Felicia and both of them didn’t look that happy.

“Umm..i was just chilling around.”

“Chilling around? Stop bullshiting me,” Racheal said in an angry tone.

“What’s wrong? Am I missing something?” I asked because clearly, I had no idea why both of them were so mad at me.

“Obviously you are. We were supposed to meet near the bar if you remember.”

“I was sitting there the whole time but then..”

Wait? Where’s Aaron? Should I tell them about him? No. Probably not.

“But then what?” both asked in unison.

I decided to lie to them and swiftly said, “But then I got bored so I just thought of dancing for some time.”

“Are you hiding something from us?” Racheal asked curiously.

Damn. She knows me too well.

“Not at all. Shall we go then?” I asked to change the topic because I wasn’t interested in being interrogated right now.

“Let’s go,” Felicia said excitedly. We did our group hug and then Racheal took us to this area where everybody was playing some the truth and dare game. My eyes searched for Aaron but I couldn’t find him anywhere. Maybe he got lost in the crowd or maybe he found some other girl to flirt with, I thought to myself. Though he was a stranger to me yet the little time that we spent together was worth treasuring.
