Honeymoon

“Eleni!” She was on top of the table, lying down, Ash was on top of her pushing down on her chest. With every push he swore under his breath and prayed that she would open her eyes. He felt her twitch under him and saw them open. She turned to the right and saw everyone was watching her. She looked back at Ash and tried to smile.

“I have never been so scared in my life.”

He pulled her close to him and held onto her tight. She coughed and he let go, much to his dismay. She got off the table and sat back down in her chair.

“I’m okay everyone, please continue the festivities.”

She smiled and soon after the music resumed and the family members went back to dancing and talking one over another. Eleni took Ash by the hand and asked him to follow her.
When they reached a corner where they could be alone, Eleni pushed Ash against the wall and kissed him deeply. He held her by the shoulders and looked at her hungry eyes.

“Really? After nearly dying?” He laughed and kissed her again.

His hands went to her hair and he hesitated, she let her hair down slowly, watching him bite his lips.

“Damn Eleni, I want you just as much.” This time he pushed her against the wall and pinned her hands over her head. He left a trail of kisses down her neck and pulled away when she moaned.

“Not here.”

He grabbed her hand and pulled her to a room he knew would be private.

“Have fun you two!” Kaliopi waved as the boat slowly moved away from the pier. Eleni was leaning on the side of the boat waving back and Ash had his arms around her, holding her close. He let go for one second to wave and then got back to holding his beautiful wife. She was his, he was hers. He still couldn’t believe it. He kissed the top of her head and he closed his eyes while the wind hit his face. She turned around in his arms and looked up at him.

“I have never been happier Eleni.”

She kissed him softly and brought one of his hands to her belly.

“I can think of one tiny reason to be happier.”

He didn’t realize right away what she meant. She waited, moving his hand in circles around her belly and pressing for him to feel
the soft flesh.

“In about six months we will be parents.”

He let go and stepped back. His eyes started to water.

“Are you sure?” She nodded.

“The night in the cave.” She smiled and he grabbed her close in his arms.

“You don’t think it’s too soon Ash?” He kissed her over and
over again, he never wanted to let go of this amazing woman.

“Nothing with you is too soon. I love you Eleni.”

Eleni woke up and looked out the floor to ceiling windows in the hotel room. The ocean breeze blew through and tickled her cheeks, she could hear the waves crashing by the side of the rocks. She wrapped the blanket around her shoulders and walked to the large deck. She found Ash sitting down at the table with a coffee in his hand. She sat down on his lap and kissed him.

“You were so cute while you slept, I didn’t want to wake you.”

She smiled and decided to have some fun with him.

“Are you saying I’m not cute when I’m awake?”

She playfully hit his chest and pretended to pout. He lifted her up and turned her around so she was facing him with her legs wrapped around him instead. She felt like a teenager again, she felt amazing now that she didn’t stress so much about the future.

“You are the most beautiful woman to me. The cute one will be here in a few more months.”

He touched her belly and she smiled, remembering the life that was being created inside her womb.

It was time. She needed to read her fathers letters. Ash had brought the box along with them on their honeymoon and had laid it on the bed one morning for her to see. She knew it was
time but she was dreading the hurt it would bring her. She sat down on the massive bed in the room and looked out at the ocean. She was calm and she wanted to be in that state when she read them. Ash wanted to be with her while she read them so he could hold her hand but she had felt the need to be alone. She loved him so much and wanted to share everything with him, but she thought it would be too much. She found the oldest letter and
tore the envelope open. She was about to read the first word when she turned towards the balcony and yelled “Ash!”

He was by her side in an instant, holding her close to him.

“I need you with me.”

He nodded and waited for her to begin reading. After the last letter was read and the last tear was dropped, Eleni turned to Ash and thanked him for bringing the letters.

“I can’t believe I missed out on so many years with him.”

Ash knew he couldn’t say anything to make it better, she had to grieve the loss in her own way. However he knew something that might make her happy.

“I spent his last years by his side, if you ever want me to tell you stories, there are plenty.”

She nodded and squeezed his hand.

“I love you Achilles.” She giggled and threw him a playful look.

“How dare you!” He smothered her in kisses and tickled her while she gasped for air.

“Stop!” She pleaded for her torture to end but he kept kissing and tickling. She framed his face with her hands and
kissed him deeply.

“Thank you for making me the happiest woman alive.”

Most of their honeymoon was spent indoors just enjoying each other, however they forced themselves to go out to dine and walk along the pier. It was such a lovely hotel where they were staying, their room faced the water and they saw the most amazing sunsets they had ever laid eyes on. The food was amazing, the people on the island were as friendly as back home and so their days and nights were filled with memories they would treasure always.

They were on the boat back to the mainland, their honeymoon had been over before it even began it seemed. Eleni leaned into Ash as he held her while they both looked out into the vastness of the water in front of them. Their honeymoon could not have been better, but it was time to return to their normal routines and see Kat again. She must be missing us so much, Eleni thought. Ash kissed the top of her head, somehow sensing that she was having
sad thoughts. She smiled and thought about her husband. They would be parents soon and even if they still didn’t know everything about each other, she knew they would make it. He
brought his hands down and rested them on her belly. He really can read my mind.
