Chapter 39.1 [Part 1]
“You could have died,” I continued when Jack looked at the floor guiltily. He should be guilty, if he’d have died then............ I don’t know what I would have done or how I would have survived and he wouldn’t be here with me now. “This is all my fault,”
I burst into tears.
“Hey,” Jack cooed as he pulled me closer to him. “None of this is your fault. Yeah you kept something from me but it wasn’t your fault. You were worried about your Dad and wanted to fulfil his dying wish. You told me the truth in the end. Me nearly dying is nothing to do with you and-”
“It is my fault. I should have stayed at the hotel in Majorca and waited for you. If I’d have waited, you wouldn’t have thought about drinking and wouldn’t have had to go through all this,” I cried harder.
“Sienna,” Jack shook his head. “We wouldn’t have been in Majorca in the first place if it weren’t for your Dad kidnapping you. All this is his fault, you weren’t to know how I would react once you told me the truth. You thought I’d left you and did what any other woman would do if her husband told her it was over between them. Really you have done nothing wrong. I shouldn’t have left. We both can go over this again and again saying how we could have, should have and would have done things differently but that will get us nowhere. Neither of us are at fault, we didn’t set out to hurt each other and never would have if it wasn’t for your Dad ok?”
I nodded my head and Jack wiped my tears away with his thumb before giving me a peck on the lips.
“You are ok aren’t you?” I asked after a few minutes of comfortable silence in each other’s arms. “The poison isn’t still inside you is it?”
“No,” Jack shook his head. “It’s long gone,”
“Then why are you still here? You could go home,”
“I could have but it wouldn’t be home without you and Dad wanted me to stay with him, he doesn’t trust me on my own. He thinks I’ll get a drink as soon as his back is turned,”
“He’s just worried about you and cares. He just wants what's best for you and doesn’t want to see you hurt, he nearly lost you. I nearly lost you without knowing it because I wasn’t here but I’m here now. He should be ok with it if we leave and go home together,”
“I guess,” Jack agreed before standing up and holding his hand out for me to take. “Let’s go home,”
