Chapter 11

Is it just me or does everyone hates coming to school?

“Apparently it’s just you because I think I like coming to school.” I bit my lip and smiled slightly at my bestie who was already looking at me with a smile.

“I spoke it out loud didn’t I?” She nodded in response. “Guess you were right. I really need to put on a full stop on this habit of mine.” I said with a chuckle.

“Well I think its better than talking to yourself out in public.”

I let out a soft laugh on hearing that. Miley was talking about herself. She had this weird habit of talking to herself while standing in middle of a crowd. When she realizes what she is doing, it would be too late.

We both were now sitting in our class as it was our last ten minutes break. We didn’t had any business outside so we just stayed here.

“Don’t you think we should go down and join others?”

I waved my hand in dismissal. “Naah. Let’s just stay outside.” I said while eyeing at the balcony and the rails where we just loved to stand. “Okay. Its better than facing the devil himself.” She muttered but I heard it though.

Standing up, we both made our way to the rails and leaned against it.

“Did something happen?” Miley questioned me without looking at me.

“No. Why’d you ask?”

“It’s just... you seem out of place nowadays. Is something bothering you?”

Her question made me smile. I loved this friend thing we shared with each other. She will get it when something’s bothering me.

“Actually, yes.” She gave me a curious look. “You know, I remembered a few days ago that I actually knew about Max.”

“Max?” She frowned and then her face softened and her mouth formed an ‘o’. “Yeah. Max. I remember. What ’bout him?”

“Taliah always talks about the incidents that happen in her class and this still goes on.”

“So I think it started 2 years ago. She always told me about this guy who she always mentioned by the name ‘Maximus’.”

I chuckled. “yeah.” then I continued. “She always used this name for mentioning him and I am used to that name that on hearing his actual name, I didn’t remember him.”

“Eh? So you’re saying that you knew about him for a year?” Miley asked clearly amused at this new information.

“Years to be exact. As I said Taliah always told me about Max but it was a year ago when I finally got to see him.”

“Hmm.” She said while turning her attention downwards to the ground where all the students were roaming around and I copied her action. After a few minutes of silence, she broke it with a statement.

“That explains why you felt bad for not smiling back at that guy.”

I frowned and sent her a questioning look. She nervously glanced down and then turned towards me with a tight smile. “Now when our talk is over, shall we go down?”

I tried to figure out what her question meant when I felt like to glance down. And there he was, Alex, shooting deadly daggers at my best friend. I raised an eyebrow at her direction with a smile.

“Yeah we shall. Who knows Mr. Rude may appear out of nowhere?” She laughed at that. I can already see Alex’s disapproving frown on hearing his new nickname. Chuckling at the thought, I started moving.

I don’t know why but my eyes seemed to be lingered on that rail over there in front of the class. That’s when I remembered it. That explains why you felt bad for not smiling back at that guy.

I opened my mouth to ask her that one question that is bugging me from the moment those words came out of her mouth.

“The not smiling thing, what did you mean by tha-”

I bumped on someone. I couldn’t help but ask myself the question on feeling the pain on my face.

What on earth is this? A rock?

When I raised my head, I was surprised. I was greeted by the most beautiful green blue eyes and only one person had those beauties.

Max Richardson.

Wait, I bumped into HIM? My eyes widened and I took a step back.

“Oh my gosh I am sorry!” All I could do was frown at myself. Seriously Mel, can’t you at least watch where you are going?

“It’s okay. I was not paying attention” He replied with a sweet smile. And let’s be honest, his smile was beautiful. I was speechless. Then I remembered what happened last time when I didn’t return his smile. Good god, I couldn’t help but feel the guilt. Why was I feeling guilty again? Who knows! But this time I was not going to let that happen. So I did what I had to.

I returned his smile.

On seeing this, his smile widened and he nodded before making his way towards his class. I was sure of one thing, I was grinning like an idiot. When I looked at my friend, I almost laughed out loud on seeing her expression.

With a frown she spoke. “Oh no. Not the smile again!”
