Chapter 7: Miley
By the time we were back in our class, Melody was unusually quiet. It was like something was seriously bugging her. She was nowhere in this world anymore. Sliding in the seat next to her, I waved a hand in front of her face.
“Hello, earth to melody, earth to Mel!”
Blinking, she looked at me. “Huh?”
I raised an eyebrow at her. “What’s the matter?”
“Matter? What matter?”
I sighed and leaned my head against my right hand.
“I have noticed something’s bugging you since we returned. What’s wrong? Tell me, who knows I might be useful.”
Sighing she leaned closer to me. “I don’t know whether you’ve noticed or not, but, down there, did you see a green-blue eyed guy.”
“You mean a tall tanned green blue eyed guy who was casullay leaning over the rails?”
With that she was very attentive. “So you did.”
’Yes I did. Now what’s wrong with that guy?”
She looked away and then turned to face me. “Max actually smiled at me and I didn’t smile back. Don’t know why but, I feel bad. I shouldn’t have done that right?
She was worried because of a smile?! Is she for real?
“What’s with that look?” Melody asked me with her eyes narrowed.
“You were worried as her for not returning a smile?”
“Yes.” Rolling my eyes at her, I straightened myself.
“Personally, I think you should have smiled back. And wait, Max?”
“Yeah that’s his name.”
“How do you know that?”
“I’ve heard about him from Walter, you know the captain of our volleyball team? Max’s his best friend.”
I seriously don’t know who this Walter is and anything about her connection with the volleyball team. Because as far as I know, she is not in volleyball team.
“I seriously don’t know why I am feeling like this. It was just a smile for god’s sake!” Melody whined. Amused at her reaction, I reched down and opened my bag pulling out my water bottle. Climbing all those endless stairs always makes me thirsty.
“Yeah. It was just a smile. He was giving a free smile to each and every person out there.” I paused so that I can open the bottle. “Including me.”
I was about to raise the bottle to my mouth when suddenly-
“WHAT!?” She yelled.
What the hell!?
Thank god, I wasn’t drinking water. If I was then I would have chocked to death by now. I inclined my head otwards her and glared.
“What was that about?”
“I-I don’t know.”
Raising my eyebrow at her sudden outburst, I started drinking my surprisingly cold water. I don’t know why she was making big deal of a smile but I rather found it amusing. The last time I saw her squeaking like this was the day when I commented Asher doesn’t look hot.
The yelling as you can see, surprised us both. Melody’s brows furrowed in utter confusion. Can it be? Umm... got to find it out.
“You know, he was actually hot. Especially when he smiles. If I ever ant a boyfriend that would be someone like him.”
I resisted my urge to laugh like a maniac on seeing her annoyed look. It’s not everyday I can annoy Melody by some boy’s name.
Her eyes narrowed. If looks could kill, I would be six feet under.
“So you mean he smiled at you?”
“Yes and he was staring at me for a long time.” Oh god, I am gonna lose it.
But I could care less. The expression she was giving me was worth it. Just then the bell rang and then what I feared happened. I lost it and ended up laughing like a maniac.
She was eyeing me like I’ve grown two heads and that was absolutely not helping. It only made me laugh more harder.
“Oh god! Oh my god! Y-Your face, it was priceless!” I said in between my laugh.
“Huh? What do you mean?”
“W-wait. Let me calm down.” Which I did, but unfortunately, the teacher came inside by then. We both were sitting in the last so she didn’t saw me laughing or she chose to ignore it.
“Hey!” We both turned our attention to Amber who was now sitting next to me. Actually, it was only the both of us who shared a seat but in special occasions like this, one of the others join in our seat. Not that we complaint. It makes our boring class much more interesting.
“HI” I greeted back.
“What are you both discussing on?” Amber was the one who was interested in every type of gossips. She never gets tired of gossips.
Because I needed to tell this someone and she was one of my friends I made here since I joined this school 8 years ago, I told her everything. And she listened it calmly.
“You know, I think she’s right.” Amber said when I finished.
“You should have smiled back. Smile is god’s precious gift, you should always give it to all without partiality.”
“I know. I know.” Melody whisper yelled. Smirking I leaned towards her so that no one except us will hear our conversation. Don’t forget we still have a teacher in our class. But since it was the last class and our teacher was less than interested in teaching us, we were in safe zone.
“You know, I was not lying about the Max staring at me thing.”
I was more than enjoying the change in expressions.
“Oh, as if I care.” I exchanged a look with Amber and much to my enjoyment; she was sharing the same look.
“But he was rather enjoying my annoyance with his classmates”
She blinked and blinked. “Oh”
That was completely true. His classmates, the girls to be precise, were not at all cooperative. You see, Sera and the other girl were not in the class and when we asked for the book, they just ignored us. It was then when I noticed the green blue eyed stranger who was leaning against the door amused at my annoyance. He sent me a polite smile, more like apologetic one and I returned the smile not even bothering not to hide my annoyance.
Melody’s face relaxed and she smiled. I was actually happy. She finally got over Asher and this ‘Max’ case was the evidence. Looks like my bestie got love at first eye sight. Not that I complain.
