Chapter 8

When Alina walked into the restaurant the sun was just starting to set which gave a lower, more romantic light to the room. Alina walked in and saw Noah leaning against the bar with a bar towel lying across one shoulder. He was wearing a soft, fitted tee with the logo of a band she'd never heard of on the front. He also had cargo shorts and black Vans on his feet. His black hat was on backwards and his adorable wavy hair poked out from underneath. He was talking to two women who were gorgeous and obviously into the cute, young bartender in front of them. Noah said something that sent them both into a fit of laughter and giggles before he started to walk away.

Suddenly he made eye contact with Alina and a huge grin spread across his face.
"Hey you!" Noah said as he came around the bar and walked towards her. The excitement in his eyes and voice made Alina's heart flutter and she felt a blush creep up her neck and cheeks. Noah's hands slid around her waist as he wrapped her in a hug. She wrapped her arms around his neck and breathed in his incredible cologne. Or maybe it was just him? Whatever it was, it smelled amazing.
"Hi! I hope it's okay that I just dropped in?" Alina asked, looking up at Noah through her lashes.
"Of course," he said. He put his hand on her lower back to push her towards the bar. He pulled out a chair on the other side and then returned to his spot behind the bar. Alina caught a glimpse of the girls Noah had been talking to when she walked in and they were glaring at her.
"So what can I get you?" Noah leaned forward on the bar, putting his large, warm hand on top of hers.
"Surprise me?" Alina said with a slight shrug.
"You got it," Noah said and he walked away after giving her a small wink.
Noah came back a few minutes later and placed an orange drink with muddled lime and strawberries in front of her.
"A Miami Sunset, appropriately named," he said laughing.
"Thank you so much," Alina said as she took her first sip. "Yum, it's delicious!"
Noah nodded a thanks.
"So what did you get up to today?"
Alina and Noah chatted on and off while he worked, cleaned, and served behind the bar. Before Alina knew it, she'd been there for over two hours and drank three Miami Sunsets. Noah suggested that he get her a cab to get back to the hotel.
"How late will you be working?"
"We close in an hour and then I have a few other things to wrap up," Noah said sadly.
"Can I wait?"
"Sure but I'm going to make you some food, what would you like?"
A coy smile reached Alina's face.
"Surprise me," she said. Noah smiled, nodded, and left.
He brought her back a delicious turkey, pesto sandwich with sweet potato fries and a large ice water. Alina didn't realize how hungry she was and finished up everything on the plate just as Sam's Bayfront Bar & Grille was closing. Noah worked quickly to run the dishwasher, balance his till, and clean the bar thoroughly. People were still working in the back when he came around the bar and helped Alina off her bar stool and led her out into the Miami night.
He hailed a cab and gently folded her in before closing the door and running around to the other side. He gave the driver the name of the hotel and they sped off, Alina snuggled up to Noah and rested her head on his shoulder. Noah put his arm around her and rubbed her arm with his hand. At the hotel, Noah got out first and then reached his hand out to help Alina out of the cab. As she stood up, she stumbled and Noah caught her before she fell.
"How about I walk you to your room?" Noah asked. Alina nodded a little too enthusiastically. As they waited for the elevator to take them to her floor, Noah quietly said "You look beautiful tonight."
Alina looked up at him and smiled. They got off the elevator and made it to Alina's room. She fumbled with the room key but Noah stopped her and put his hands on her face again. Alina, despite having three cocktails, felt less brave as Noah's gorgeous eyes stared straight into hers.
"I should probably leave now," Noah said as he kissed her forehead.
"No! Please come in," Alina said.
Noah slid his hands to the back of Alina's head, his thumbs traced gentle circles on her cheeks. He searched her face for permission even though her voice had just said it.
"If I come in, I may not be able to leave. It's best if I just go." Noah said.
"Please..." Alina said quietly.
"Ok, just for a few minutes," Noah said.
Inside, they sat on the bed looking out the window of Alina's hotel room at the city lights. Alina looked up at Noah who met her eyes and she leaned over to kiss him. Noah kissed her back gently at first, then deeper. She parted her lips and felt Noah's tongue, warm and sweet, move into her mouth. His hand started at her hip and moved up to her hair while his other hand was on her face. Her hands were on his neck and then running slowly down his chest.
Suddenly, Noah pulled away, they were both slightly breathless.
"We should stop Alina," Noah said.
"Did I do something wrong?" Alina asked. His face softened instantly.
"No, no of course not. I would love to keep kissing you, but I don't want to go too fast when you've been drinking and I haven't," Noah responded.
"I could slam some beers back from the mini-bar real quick?" Alina suggested. She knew he was right but she had to try.
Noah laughed.
Then Alina said, "I'm not ready for you to leave yet."
"Then I won't leave, how about we just lie here for a bit?"
Alina conceded and asked Noah to wait there while she changed into her pajamas. She came out in small shorts with a hole in the side, and a faded tank top with nothing underneath. She walked up to Noah who threw his head back and groaned.
"Good god girl, what are you trying to do to me?" Noah said. Alina smiled. She loved the way he looked at her. They crawled to the head of the bed, too warm to get under the covers, and curled up together. Alina was resting her head on his chest while he gently ran his fingers up and down her back.
He kissed the top of her head.
"Goodnight Alina."
She responded by letting out a soft snore.
