Chapter 10

Davis’ POV

I was planning on ways to escape the terrible lie when Zack knocked and entered my office. ″Mr.Stone is here as informed. Would you like to see him now?″ I had totally forgotten about this. ″Tell him to come in.″

I heard a knock that was loud but polite at the same time. The man looked tall and seemed to be in his early fifty’s. I cleared my throat and made my voice stern. ″Mr.Stone, it’s a pleasure to finally meet you″ I shook his hand. ″Please have a seat″.

He nodded and sat. ″I assume you must have known the reason for your presence and I hope you clearly know what you are doing″ I directly stated. ″Yes Mr.Weinberg, I do know but the situation I am currently in has brought me to this state″

″Please explain in detail. I would like to understand your situation so that I can help come out of it″ I continued.

″Well you see, my daughter just finished her medical degree and since childhood......to put in simpler words we did not have a very good relation between us. So to make things better, we as parents offered her and reduced the burden for her by paying her tuition and dorm fees.″

″At the beginning, it was easy to handle as she had got a scholarship and I thought I could handle it. But when she was in her final year the fee just seemed to increase as she was studying in abroad.″

″I have a single daughter and I have always wanted the best for her. Once she finished her bachelor’s degree she wanted to do further and as a father I couldn’t tell our financial crisis. That was when I had to take the loan.″

″I even cut Lia’s dorm fees hoping I could pay on time but it just looks impossible to pay back and here I am talking to you without any clue what to do next.”

I was listening attentively the whole time. So I was wrong about her the whole time. All she did was educate herself taking care of her needs. ″Do you know if she is doing well in her studies Mr.Stone? What makes you think she wouldn’t have got herself in any trouble while you were struggling to pay for her?″ I asked still not satisfied.

″Lia is one smart girl, she can be feisty at times but I know my daughter well enough and what she is capable of doing and what she wouldn’t. I heard she got a scholarship for her master’s ,so I know she is doing great so far.″ he said.

″Heard? Aren’t you talking to each other and doesn’t she visit you during her breaks?″ I asked interested.

″Like I told you before, we weren’t in good terms and it seems she has found her own new world. She still speaks to her mother but doesn’t really visit us. The last I saw her was 7 years ago . I see her photos and I know she is happy so that’s enough.″

That girl was definitely something and she had some guts.Damn. ″Where is she now?″

A thought popped out of nowhere but I was nervous to ask. ″What if I have a solution. You do it and you don’t have to pay back the money. But if you refuse , I’m afraid you have to pay back in a month time and I won’t be able to help″

″ I’m willing to do anything to come out of this, what is it that I have to do?″

He was eager ″Let me marry your daughter but no one will know except my parents and of course you and your wife” He took time to think and at last agreed.

″We will sign a contract that is between you and me only about the reason of this marriage. If a word spoken, you will have to pay back the money ″ He accepted and a contact was prepared and was signed by both of us. He finally asked ″Why marry someone you don’t know″

″Don’t know, just a gut feeling and I trusted it. I’ll be leaving tonight to Pennsylvania , speak to your daughter about this marriage except for the contract. You don’t want to break the contract, do you?″
