Chapter 33

“Well, I have been thinking and talking with Dr. McCormack and I have come to a conclusion…” she began then took a big deep breath, “After everything that happened, I don’t want to go back to the house. I want to keep the good memories that I have of it and not ruin them by going back. So Daddy, I’m going to move out and you can sell it now. I appreciate you letting me stay there for so long, but it’s time…So now I just need to find a new place. So-“ Lorelai stated and was then cut off.

“A ghrà, I was going to talk to you about this last night after dinner, but now is as good a time as any. Will you move in with me? I tracked down all the supplies needed to make a dance room in the basement for you and I want you with me all the time. I don’t want to wake up without you anymore!” Aaron said looking deep into her eyes as he talked.

“Really?” She asked in awe.

“Absolutely! The minute you get out of here I want to take you home!” He said and kissed her bruised hand again.

“I would love to!” She replied with a grin.

He smiled back and leaned in kissing her gently on the lips, completely oblivious to the other people in the room, until a loud throat clearing made them pull apart.

They looked and saw everyone smiling, “Well, now that we have that taken care of, is there anything else we need to take care of?” Mike asked.

Dr. McCormack talked to the family a little bit longer and answered questions, then bid everyone goodbye after making an appointment with Lorelai. Just as she left, Evelyn and Dave arrived and hugged the young woman in the bed before sitting down. Lorelai looked at her sister and stared.

“What’s wrong with you Evie?” Lorelai asked.

“Oh um, nothing, I’m just tired…” Evelyn stammered.

“I don’t believe you! You are totally green! Oh my god, you’re pregnant aren’t you!!” Lorelai demanded.

Everyone else gasped and looked at Evelyn and Dave chuckled, “I told you! You can’t hide anything from your sister!”

Evelyn smiled weakly, “We were going to wait to tell everyone when you were feeling better and released, but yes we are going to have a baby…”

“And the morning sickness is just setting in,” Dave said rubbing his wife’s back.

Sarah and Mike jumped up to hug her, excited at the thought of a first grandchild. Lorelai was thrilled for her sister, but was sad that she didn’t have any children yet. Not that she had to be the first to have a baby, but just to have that on the horizon would have been enough. She loved Aaron deeply and was so excited to be moving in with him, but didn’t know what was next for them. She didn’t want to make any assumptions as she watched them with a smile.

Aaron leaned in to her and whispered in her ear, “One thing at a time ok? Let’s get you out, healed and settled first.”

She looked at him and smiled, understanding that he wanted more with her. The very thought of having a family and a forever with the incredible man next to her made her heart rate increase and he could hear the increase on the monitors. Aaron rubbed her hand and calmed her down until they could talk privately. He wanted to make sure she understood exactly what he envisioned for the future.

Lorelai was getting a headache and closed her eyes to stop the pounding that was developing. Aaron was still holding her hand and she drifted off. The family noticed and lowered their talking. Everyone but Aaron left, promising to come back before dinner. They were alone for about an hour when the doctor came in to check on her and Aaron gently woke Lorelai up.

The doctor talked with her about how she was feeling mentally and physically. He was pleased that she had an appointment and plan with Dr. McCormack and talked to them both about the report she had given to him. He examined her again and said if she wanted to, he would discharge her if she promised to take it easy. Aaron said he was taking the next few days off to make sure she was following the doctor’s orders.

“Ok then, if you feel ok after eating some dinner, then you can go. I know it’s a little late, but I’d like you to eat something. If there is no nausea then you can go. Sound good?” the doctor asked.

“Oh yes please! I promise to listen to my body and take it easy!” She said eagerly.

He nodded and left to talk to the nurses as Aaron handed her the menu and she ordered a pot pie. Her jaw was still sore and didn’t want something she had to chew a lot. While they waited, the nurse came in and confirmed the doctor’s orders. Thankful that Sarah had brought a bag of clothes for her daughter to change into, they waited for the food together.

“So I don’t want you to say anything, but I just want you to know that you are it for me Lorelai. I know you are happy for your sister, and want what she has and please believe me when I say we will have that! I just want you to heal your body and your soul and get settled in our house. Yes, our house now, not mine. Can you believe me when I say that I can’t wait until you are having our child and you are my wife?”

She wiped her tears away as he looked at her with such love and devotion and nodded. She was saved by the kitchen staff bringing in her food and set it up for her and she ate about half. Aaron knew she was trying desperately to get down that much so she could go and was stuffed. The nurse came in and saw how much she ate and relented, feeling bad for her.

“Ok, that’s enough. You look like you are going to burst! Sit there for a few minutes and let that settle. I will go get your papers and then will take out the IV’s and get you dressed,” she said taking the tray. She left and Lorelai sat back and smiled at her boyfriend.

The nurse came back 15 minutes later with the papers and helped Lorelai get into the maxi dress that would just hang on her and not push on any of her bruises. She slipped on the flip flops and took the hair tie from the bag and pulled her hair back into a ponytail gently. The nurse set her in the wheelchair and went down the hall after explaining everything to them both on follow up care.

Aaron walked behind them carrying the papers and the bag and prayed that the next time they left the hospital together they would have a baby with them. He smiled at the thought and walked out the front door to the spot where his Police SUV was still parked and pulled up to where Lorelai was waiting. He helped her in and they waved to the sweet nurse and they left.

They arrived at his home 20 minutes later and he helped her out, holding her hand as they went in the front door. Thor ran to them and sat next to her as she sat on the couch, whining and laying his head on her lap, begging to be petted. Aaron texted everyone to let them know they were home and sat next to her and handed her a bottle of water.

“Well, my mom and sister have filled the fridge and freezer with more food than I thought was possible to fit in there, so we are set on food until the New Year. So all that’s left for tonight is for me to say, Welcome Home A Ghrà, welcome home.”

She leaned over and kissed him thinking that she didn’t want to be any other place.
