chapter 18

Pulling over in front of a shop downtown. John told us to get out, and pulled something from the back of the car.

Walking down the street, we stopped in front of a bookstore. “Scarlet you and Thomas stay here for a while, I have something I need to go take care of. I won’t be long.” He said giving me a kiss and walked off.

“Well you heard the man; in you get.” “You know I am legally an adult; so I should be able to go where I want when I want.” “Yes and under normal circumstances you would be able to, but until the wolves are dealt with, you’re not going anywhere without one of us being with you.” Shaking my head, we went inside; I always loved the smell of old books; back home we only have one bookstore, and I would go into it; every day after school, spending hours upon hours there. No sooner did we get in there, no sooner did John come back, and I have a small pile of books going.

“Are you ready to go?” I nodded; heading to the front, leaving my stack in place.

“She’ll take the lot.” “No John I don’t need them.” “Don’t listen to her, here you are.” He said handing her money, boxed up my books and headed out to the street.

Just as we loaded the car; Thomas’s phone beeped. “It’s Derek, they have everything, and want to know what we’re doing.”

“We’ll meet them at the market just down the road.” He nodded and sent the text, as John relocked the car.

“We’ll walk, it’s just down the road.” I nodded, and Took Johns hand as we walked.

Walking I bumped into someone, sending us both back a step. “I’m sorry, I didn’t see you.” “No it’s alright. Scarlet?” Looking at the girl. “Chloe? Oh my god. I can’t believe it’s you.” She started laughing pulling me into a massive hug.

“I don’t believe it. I stopped back in your town, and I couldn’t find you. There wasn’t any sign of you, no scent, nothing. I asked around, and no one knew what became of you.” “Yes.” I said; letting go of her. “And who might you be?” John asked coming to stand beside me; protectively. “Sorry, John Thomas; this is my friend Chloe. Chloe this is John and Thomas.” “It’s nice to meet the both of you. I’m sorry for that. But what happened to you?”

“We can’t talk here. It’s not safe out here in the open. Come with us, we must speak in privet.” “We can go back to my hotel room, it’s just until I find a place.” “No, you’ll come back with us.” I said looking at John who nodded as I did.

“Why is it not safe out here?” “We will tell you, but not here.” “Thomas keep an eye open, we don’t know what might be around the corner.” Walking to her hotel, no one paid attention to us, but they did look at Chloe; they don’t see a girl with pure snow white hair every day.

We drove there; but John won’t let us out of the car before he and Thomas made sure it’s all clear. Walking into her room, her stuff is all over, but it didn’t take her long to gather it all up. “How long have you been here?” She asked setting a bag by the door.

“It’s been a while. About a year now. I left home, but.” Looking over at John; he shook his head. “I’ll tell you more, after we get somewhere safer.” She nodded. “I understand, I’m almost ready.” Chloe packed the last of her stuff, she has four bags, and how does she walk around like she does with fore bags on her back?

“Ok I’m ready. Let’s go, I have to know what happened to you.” John and Thomas took her bags, Thomas went out first; and then Chloe and I went out next, with John taking up the back, keeping us caged in.

Keeping my caged in.

Throwing her stuff in the back of the car, the back is full to the peak now; with her stuff, my books, and the food we got, you can barely see out the back window. John is driving, and they made me sit up front, and Thomas is sitting next to Chloe.

John made a call to Derek. “Hey. So change of plans, we’re heading back….. Yeah something has come up; so we’re heading back. Right . . . see you there.” He hung up his phone, setting it in the cup holder. “Derek and Eliot are going to head back now. Thomas cover Chloe’s eyes, so she doesn’t see where we’re going.”

“I’m sorry, but is that really necessary?” She asked, I can tell she’s getting a little anxious.

“I’m sorry Chloe, but it’s for the best. We have to keep the exact location secret.” I said turning so I can look at her.

“Until they know they can trust you one hundred present we can’t take the chance. I’m sorry, but you can trust me, we won’t do anything to do, I promise. So please, just let him cover your eyes.” “Fine just do it.”

She said turning her head so Thomas can cover her eyes, with the scarf I tossed him.
