We settled in and poured us each a drink. Taking a deep breathe, I said.
“So you know what happened to me before, my family didn’t want me, so I ran away.” Looking at Thomas he gave me a smile, and a nod.
“On the bus heading out of town; this guy approached me. He seemed to know I was something different, he just didn’t know what I was. Same as you when I first met you.” I told her about how he drugged me, brought me to his place and showing him what I am.
“Then I snuck out, and I got lost; I was attacked and the others found me, they took me someplace safe, and got me cleaned up.”
I can’t help but laugh looking at John and the others.
“They were terrified when I told them where I needed to go. They freaked and kept saying that Thomas would kill them if anything happened to me. They saved my life.” Chloe looked at Thomas, who’s still smiling at me. “Did you really feel that way?” He shrugged. “Not really. I would have been mad, but I wouldn’t have killed them.” Rolling my eyes, I continued with my story. “Then on my birthday, they took me out. Some human held up the place; we were in a club full of vampires, and I got shot and they gave me there blood trying to save me, but I died and I came back as a hybrid, as you know. But what I don’t now is since was given both John’s and Thomas’s blood, I don’t know if I will get the abilities like them or not.”
Taking a sip of my blood, and staring at the floor. “Wow! You guys are crazy, and I thought I was bad.” Nodding. “Yeah it’s pretty messed up. So now we have a pack of wolves after us, and as you can see by what happened earlier today; they will stop at nothing to get their hands on me.”
Just then someone knocked at the door. The guys stiffened. Setting my glass down I quickly changed into a black panther, picturing her in my head, with bright blue eyes; popping and cracking as my body took on a new form.
As we all made out way to the door, I sniffed; the thing that is on the other side of the door is a werewolf.
What are they doing here?
Weapons raised, John opened the door. A young girl no more than fifteen is standing there. “Who are you, and what do you want?” “I’m sorry. I’m Sarah, I won’t hurt you.” “What are you doing here?” “I’m from the pack that’s been hunting you.”
“Why are you here?” John said taking a step forward, making her take a step backwards. “I left, I don’t want to be part of that world anymore.” “So why did you come here then?” “I’m not here alone; I’m with two others who are here with me. There like me, they left, we want all this to stop.” “It’s your Alpha that started all this. It’s all because of this creature here.”
John said setting a hand on my head. “He wants her, to sell off to the highest bidder.” She hung her head.
“I know, but that’s not us. We’ve never wanted any of that, so we left.” “How did you get in here?”
John demanded. “Using the others, we clawed our way under the fence.” “Where are they?” “They were too afraid to come out. There hiding in the trees.”
John looked down at me, I nodded and he said. “You can tell them they can come out now. You don’t have to be afraid.”
Just then two young wolves emerged from the trees, slowly coming towards the house, a male brown wolf, and another female who is a grey wolf.
Coming to stand next to Sarah she said. “This is Lilly, and Jack. There shy, so please be patient with them.” John nodded.
“Thomas Eliot, please do a sweep of the property, make sure we’re safe.” They nodded, showing their weapons they moved past our three new wolves and vanished from sight. “Come in you three, and we’ll talk.” John and I moved so they can come in. Chloe and Derek led the way further into the house. The three looked around, sniffing as we walked into the den.
John sat in the chair, gun in his lap. I sat in front of him, leaning against his leg, still as a black panther. Derek and Chloe stood at the wall never taking their eyes off the three wolves. Sarah sat on the couch and the other two sat on either side of her.
“You can change back whenever you know.” John said to the two wolves. “They’re very shy, there change back, it will just take them a while. Listen I’m sorry for what the pack has done to all of you. We weren’t part of any of it. We don’t want this to happen to you, Scarlet.”
She said looking at me.
Rubbing against John’s leg I slowly walked up to them, purring showing the wolves I mean them no harm. I let them smell me and went back to sit beside John, sitting proud and straight. My blue eyes staring at the three of them. What are we going to do with them? We can’t just throw them out.
But there part of the enemy, aren’t they? Looking at them, they seem so scared to me right now. Looking over at Chloe and Derek there talking to each other, but in hushed tones so we can’t hear them, but I can see their lips moving. Changing back, I sat next to John in the chair and he wrapped an arm around me, holding me close to him. “So what do we do now?” I asked leaning my head against John’s shoulder, but never taking my eyes off them.
Sarah moved forward on the couch. “Alright you two, I think it’s time that you change back.” The two of wolves stood, and Derek put his hand on the hilt of the silver knife at his side. Some pops and cracks, and there’s two teenagers standing in front of us, a blond female and a brunet male. “Have a seat you two.” I said flicking my finger at them. “Now tell me why we shouldn’t throw the two of you out of here right now.”
Sarah is about to say something but Thomas and Eliot came in the room.
“There’s nothing else out there. These three are the only wolf scents out there.” “Thank you Thomas.” I handed each of them a drink and they went to stand beside Derek and Chloe, Thomas standing beside Chloe. “What are we going to do with you three? Do you have anything that could help us?”
They looked at each other, then back at John and I. Sarah cleared her throat and leaned forward. “We did hear some things before we left. The alpha is getting very angry. It doesn’t matter what they do, they can’t win. We heard that there gathering strength for one final battle. There coming at you with everything they have, it will be a blood bath, you won’t win. You have to leave, it you don’t then we all will die.” Chest tightening, teeth grinding. “Do you know when this will be happening?”
She shook her head. “We didn’t hear exactly. But I do know it will be soon. We were never really allowed in those meetings, but we did manage to hear things from other people.” John stood, pulling me up with him. “Thank you for the information. I’m sorry that you three had to leave your home like you did.” John looked at everyone else then at me.
“We need a moment to discuss some things. Give us a moment please. Everyone to the kitchen; you three stay here.” Sarah nodded, as we went out to the kitchen.
“So what are we going to do with them?”
I asked sitting at the table. “I don’t know. I do know we can’t send them back there. But I don’t know what to do.” John said filling a jug with water. “For tonight at least we will keep them here with us. We can keep an eye on them, and make sure there safe.”
He is the greatest man. “Let’s get back out there.” Smiling I stood and changed to my raven form. My red under wings flashing as I land on John’s shoulder.
“It doesn’t matter how many times I see you like this, I will never get used to seeing you like this. You are so beautiful.”
John said running his finger down my back.
Walking into the den, the three wolves are still sitting there waiting for us. Flying off his shoulder, I changed, and John sat me in his chair standing behind me, and the others went back to their place at the wall. Thomas and Chloe beside each other, whispering to each other. “We are sorry for what has happened to you. The three of you are welcome to stay here with us, if you’re comfortable.” Sarah nodded. “Thank you. We would like that very much.” “Good.” Giving them a smile.
“You can take.” I was about to say that why could take my room but Thomas beat me to it.
“They can have my room.” She nodded. “Thank you. We won’t be any trouble. When the time comes we will stand with you. If there is any chance we can get our homes back from that brute, we will do whatever we have to.”
John nodded moving towards them. “Thank you. Now let’s get you three cleaned up.” Standing I pointed at Sarah and Lilly.
“You two come with Chloe and I. Jack you go with the guys. Is that alright John?” He nodded and the girls followed me while the boys stayed in the den talking. “I should have stuff that will fit you three. Since I changed most of my stuff no longer fits me; so you’re welcome to anything that fits you.”
Walking into my room I pulled out the boxes and let them go to town.
They both also need a shower badly. Lilly and Sarah both found some clothing and I pointed to the bathroom where they can get cleaned up. By the time the three of them were finished I had several empty boxes I can get rid of. Sitting on my bed Chloe and I talked while waiting for the girls to finish up.
“What do you think about the little wolves?” I asked looking out the window at the darkening sky, there is yet another storm moving in.
“I believe them. Over the years I have become very intuitive about people lying, and I don’t have that with them, I don’t think there lying, everything they have gone through; they’ve lost their homes, and perhaps we can give them back a home. Somewhere they can be safe.”
Before I can say anything girls came in, looking much better then when they left. “Feeling better?” they nodded still holding their dirty clothes.
“You can throw them in the hamper. Let’s head down, there making supper.”
With those words they perked up, it’s obvious they haven’t eaten very well for a while. Standing I changed into a white wolf with glowing blue eyes; shaking out my fur the girls gasped looking at me.
Giving them a toothy grin, I ran from the room, with the girl’s right behind me.
Stopping just outside the kitchen I poked my head in, Jack Derek and Eliot are sitting at the table, and John and Thomas are making something to eat.
Jumping into the kitchen I ran and tackled John sending us both sliding across the floor. “Scarlet what are you doing?” Pinning him down, I buried my nose in his neck, breathing in, growling lightly as he grabs fists full of my fur. I do love this man. Wriggling free of his grasp, I sniffed his neck once and changed back. Standing over him, I gave him a smile, extending my hand to him.
“How many times are you going to fall for that?” Taking my hand he pulled me down, pinning me under him.
“I don’t know, I guess as long as it take for me to get you on something.”
Smiling he leaned down moving his lips alongside mine. Helping me up, we’re met with seven pairs of eyes staring back at us.
“What are you all looking at?” No one said anything, but wouldn’t stop staring at us. I gave them all a look and we finished making dinner for everyone.
