Chapter 1
Chapter 1
Avery
“Hey! That is not fair. That’s my drink,” I scream as I see my friend, Olivia Cox takes the drink away from me. My other friend, Amanda Thomas laughed as she watched us fight over my drink.
We were currently in Hawaii for our summer break. We all were first years in college, Olivia is doing law, Amanda is studying fashion and I am doing Interior Designing. We have known each other since we were in middle school; we lived next door and even went to the same school.
“You know, you can still have it,” Olivia said holding my drink out and as I reached for it, she pulled it out and gulped it down. That little beast!
“I hate you,” I say throwing some sand on her and she looked at me, disbelieved. Her blue bikini, olive skin tone and long blonde hair were covered in sand. She glared with her big green eyes.
“You are so dead Avery Brooke,” she said putting the glass down and ran after me. I ran because I knew she was going to come for me. For her 5 foot 4 inches body, she ran pretty fast. She even over took me even though I was 5 feet and 6 inches. She really wanted to get me that bad.
“AHHHH!” I scream as we both fall into the water. I was out in the sun for so long that when I got into the water, it was cold. She didn’t stop there, she started chucking water at me and I returned back the favour.
“You guys are such babies,” Amanda said and we stopped our little “fight”. Olivia and I looked at each other and we knew what we had to do.
We ran up to Amanda who was lying down on her towel in her orange bikini, sunbathing her pale skin and her red hair pulled into a messy bun. We picked her up in our arms as she opened her hazel blue eyes. She had no clue what was happening and before she could react, she was in the water with us.
“Idiots,” she said as she started rubbing her eyes and Olivia and I were laughing so hard that tears came down our eyes.
“Are you two kids done with fooling around so that we can go and get tanned?” Amanda asked and we nod standing up. We all lay down on our respective towels and just as I put my head down, I hear someone scream.
“My daughter! Someone save her!” I heard her and I sprang to my feet. I ran towards the mother who was crying over her daughter.
“What happened?” I ask and she pointed at her daughter who was in her floaty, but looked like she was carried away from the shore because of the waves.
I jumped into the water and tried swimming towards the child but since the waves were too harsh I couldn’t. I came out of the water and saw a guy running towards us with some ropes in his hand.
He looked at me and nodded. He handed me one end of the rope, tied it around our waists just in case one of us falls down and we got on our surfing boards and swam towards the child. We both were able go smoothly and I got hold of the child. He was responsible to get us back since I couldn’t as I had my hand around the child.
“Thank you so much,” the mother said hugging her child and I smiled. I saw the guy walk away from this and joined his friends. I wanted to thank him so I walked up to him and his whole group of friends looked at me.
“Hey,” I say and he looked at me. He looked so good with his sun kissed, toned body, brown eyes, light brown hair and his red shorts which matched my bikini. He was smiling with those perfect white teeth. He had such a symmetrical and strong face. He had strong features.
“Yes?” he asked and he had such a mesmerising voice. He had to look down to look at me because he was probably 6 feet 3 inches.
“What you did there was amazing. Thank you. I’m Avery,” I say extending my hand and all of his friends, including him looked at me shocked.
“Ummm....Asher and that was nothing,” he said and his friends started whispering as he shook my hand. Why did he hesitate at the beginning to tell me his name?
“It was nice to meet you Asher but I have to get going. See you later maybe?” I say as I see Olivia and Amanda wave at me. We had a party to attend so I guess they wanted to go and get ready for it. I walked away from him and ran to my friends from where we walked to our room.
“Who was he?” Olivia asked and I smile.
“He helped me save a kid. I wanted to thank him,” I say and we quietly walk back to our room.
“How do I look?” Amanda asked looking at her reflection in our full length mirror.
“You look gorgeous,” Olivia and I say in sync because she did. She was dressed in a black deep V neck, short bodycon dress and her black heels.
Amanda on the other hand wore a one shoulder ruffled silver dress with matching heels and accessories. She looked drop dead gorgeous.
I, on the other hand was dressed in a golden sequined mini sleeveless bodycon dress with an open back and matching golden heels with it. My dark hair was pulled up in a messy bun and I had very little amount of makeup because I didn’t like makeup. My blue-green eyes looked like they were twinkling because of the light in the room. My tan skin looked amazing in the dress,
“Let’s go girls,” Amanda said and we walk out of our rooms and walk to the party we were invited to in the hotel. As soon as we entered, loud music hits us. Everyone was either dancing or drinking or making out.
“This is amazing!” Olivia screamed and we walked in showing the guards our passes and they let us in.
We first took few tequila shots and then went to the dancing floor. We looked like mad ladies having fun honestly.
“I’ll get something to drink. I’m thirsty,” I say to my friends who were dancing and flirting with guys.
“A vanilla blue mojito please,” I say to the bartender because I was tired of drinking a lot of alcohol and I wasn’t a big fan of it.
“You can drink alcohol here you know or are you just underage,” I heard someone say just as I took a sip from my drink and I turned around to find Asher smiling at me dressed in an all black outfit and a gold jacket. He looked amazing.
“I think what you mean is ‘Hey Avery, it’s lovely to meet you. You look nice today’,” I say grinning back and he raised his eyebrows at me.
“I didn’t mean to say that at all, since you put it out there, Hey Avery,” he said and I opened my mouth wide open.
“Hi also I can drink alcohol but I am not a huge fan of it. What makes you think that I am underage?” I ask as he ordered some drink for himself and sat down next to me.
“I don’t know, well how old are you?” he asked and I blink.
“18, you?” I ask and he smiles too. I was turning 19 soon if that made any difference.
“A year older than you,” he said and that made him an adult. He could do whatever he wanted.
“I never got to ask you this before, what do you do?” I ask and he looks at me in disbelief and also like he was glad.
“Umm….. I travel, sing and make videos…… I-I dropped out of college,” he said and I raised my eyebrows now.
“Wow, that is so cool, all I do is go to college and study shit about Interior Designing,” I said and he laughed. I just eye him and take another sip of my drink.
“Did you just start going to college?” he asked and I nod.
“I am a freshman in college, yes,” I say.
“So, I have wanted to ask you this, where are you from?” he asked moving closer to me.
“San Francisco but was born and brought up in New York. You?” I ask and he smiles.
“LA but was brought up in Michigan,” he said and I nod. He was pretty good at talking. We spoke for a while and I enjoyed spending my time with him.
“Hey you seeing anyone?” he asked out of nowhere and I shake my head.
“Nope,” I say and he grins and I smile back too. I was glad he asked me that because it was confirmed that he was interested in me.
His friends came up to us and my friends were waiting for me close by. I guess we spent a lot of time talking.
“Let’s exchange numbers,” he suggested as we walk outside the party and I turn around to face.
“Let’s see if you can find it out yourself,” I whisper in his ear, kiss his cheek slightly and walk away with my friends.
“I love challenges Avery and mainly I love winning them,” he screamed back and I laughed while walking away.
I couldn’t sleep all night. I kept thinking about our conversation. I kept tossing and turning till the sun rose.
